This style guide is a living document for the Atlantic Institute team to ensure clarity and consistency in the editorial style. It is a guide for all communications. The audiences for Institute communications range from global Atlantic Fellows and program staff to the general public and partners who currently include the Rhodes Trust, Schmidt Science Fellows, RISE, the Mandela Rhodes Foundation and Oxford Next Horizons. Staff should refer to this guide when writing or reviewing content for external and community readerships across all mediums and channels including: ● Newsletters. ● Emails to Fellows and staff. ● The Hub. ● The Atlantic Fellows website. ● Letters from senior members of the team to external donors/partners or speakers. ● Publications.

The general rules for Atlantic Institute communications ● ● ● ●

Use clear, plain American English in line with the Associated Press (or AP) Style Guide. Google the U.S. spelling if needed. Use short, uncomplicated sentences. Add a single line space between sentences. Avoid acronyms for the Atlantic Fellows programs; when acronyms are needed, use the full name on the first mention and add the acronym in brackets.
