POETS, PAINTERS, AND those looking for a little romance flock to Paris for good reason. The city holds an undeniable charm that’s hard to capture, but luckily chic new dining concept Brasserie Margot does just that. Located at the iconic Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown, the stylish restaurant exudes French elegance with an unmistakable Atlanta flair. Led by esteemed executive chef Jon Novak, formerly of Hotel Clermont’s Tiny Lou’s, the extensive experience of the starstudded culinary team is evident upon first bite. “I am somebody that’s worked a little bit of everywhere,” says Novak. “I’ve worked from your greasy spoon diners all the way up to cuttingedge, innovative places hunting down Michelin stars.” After grabbing a quick drink at the hotel’s Bar Margot, guests can flow to the new brasserie with ease. Greeted with the right touch of glamour, diners are transported to a whimsical Parisian getaway swathed in midcentury modern moments. Designed by Smith Hanes Studio, marble and Art Deco tile impress while a large-scale mirror holds court in the dining room where even the smallest design details shine bright—like the red zebra motif on each bread plate and cocktail napkin. “I like to just focus on taste, so being in an atmosphere like the Four Seasons makes 28

Fan favorites like Soupe à L’oignon (French onion soup) are a menu staple, while other dishes are reimagined for a fresh approach. The Mussels Vol Au Vent, reminiscent of a French puff pastry, is filled with mussels sourced from Maine and glazed in Pernod cream. “It’s a dish that’s typically done with snails, but I figured out a couple weeks before opening that I wasn’t going to be able to get snails the way I wanted to, so we pivoted to mussels,” says Novak. “And it’s fantastic.” For those with a big appetite, the Seafood Platter with chilled Gulf shrimp, oysters, chilled lobster tail, and crudo will hit the spot. “I look forward to seeing [the Seafood Platter] when I walk out onto the floor,” says Novak. “Because chances are if it’s on the table, then there’s a table full of smiling people.” With attentive staff around every corner, the only challenge guests face is saving room

for dessert, which is a must. Pastry chef Eric Snow adds a theatrical element with his equally exciting and delicious tableside crêpe service. Add some sweetness with the cotton candytopped Crème Brûlée or the Baba Au Rhum soaked in Diplomatico rum and finished with whipped cream. “We’re balancing tradition with a little fun,” says Snow. Just as swoon-worthy, the drink menu, crafted by general manager and mixologist Ashish Sharma, is packed with surprising flavor and true masterpieces—literally. The visage of the Mona Lisa sits atop the artful Louvre Sour cocktail. Pay close attention when the 7514 Triangle cocktail arrives and your server comes equipped with a bubble gun for the ultimate garnish. With no detail overlooked, a dining experience at Brasserie Margot is more than a meal. THERE’S SOMETHING to be said for starting anew. It allows one to look inward and consider personal priorities. Such was the case for a single dad looking to create a new home. He was drawn to the interiors of luxury hotels, but the house also needed to be kid-friendly: elevated but not precious. After admiring one of her previous projects, the homeowner tapped Linda MacArthur of Linda MacArthur Architect to create a home rooted in classic designs, but with a modern, more welcoming approach. “He wanted a brick house and those are very rectilinear,” says MacArthur, who worked with builder Craig Bass of Avalon Custom Homes. “We brought in curves to make it alluring.” Those curves, along with Art Deco influences, can be seen throughout the home, including in coved ceilings, streamlined architectural forms, geometric patterns, and the dramatic stair railing that immediately welcomes guests. Following suit, interior designer Melanie Turner ran with this directive, imparting shapely furnishings, luxurious materials, and carefully considered color. The foyer’s black, white, and gray herringbone tile sets the tone immediately. “The entry pulls you in,” muses the designer. “It makes you want to see the rest of the home.” Adds MacArthur: “Right away you

M MORE SPACE ALWAYS sounds like a great idea in theory—especially if you’re accustomed to compact city living—but it can be overwhelming too. So when San Francisco transplants found themselves in this soaring 7,500-square-foot five-bedroom residence in Milton, the couple tapped designers Marita Simmons and Krysta Gibbons of the firm Kipling House to make their young family’s abode feel more like a home. “What began as a kitchen remodel quickly escalated to a full-scale renovation of the entire house,” says Simmons. “The exterior is quite charming, but the interior architecture reflected the grand, oversize spaces popular during the early 2000s, complete with two-story volumes and angled walls that felt out of date.” Not to mention the Tuscan-style details that weren’t in keeping with the exterior or the location. “The property is located in horse country, and from the house you can see the neighbor’s barn and donkeys,” says Simmons. “This pastoral, equestrian feeling was a major driver of the overall design scheme.” Meanwhile, says Gibbons, “The wife loves Connecticut and the simplicity found in New England, so we tried to marry these two sensibilities.” With the help of local builder New River Building Co., the designers reworked the interior architecture, lowering ceilings to reduce the scale of certain spaces and adding character through timeless elements such as paneling, classic windowpanes, and ceiling

WHILE THE PHRASE empty nesters typically alludes to embracing sophisticated smaller homes and petite piedsà-terre, for designer Robert Brown’s clients, downsizing wasn’t an option. Instead, with Brown’s guidance, the couple chose to reimagine their home as a place for their next phase—where intimate conversation corners and a renovated kitchen create a welcoming space for entertaining friends and family. The Buckhead homeowners tapped residential designer

William T. Baker for an overhaul more than a decade ago. At the time, there were two goals in mind. First, to give more balance to the Tuscan villa inspired by Philip Shutze’s iconic Atlanta designs. Second, the floor plan needed to be modernized. “Major work was done to create a kitchen and family room area that incorporated the curved staircase. We removed walls to open the space, so it lived like a contemporary home,” says Baker. Upstairs, Baker enlarged windows to emphasize symmetry and capitalize on views.

ABOUT the Showhouse LOCATED ON BLACKLAND ROAD IN BUCKHEAD, the 2025 Southeastern Designer Showhouse is a 21st-century adaptation of the traditional stone cottages found in the Cotswolds. Built by COLE CONSTRUCTION with exterior architecture design by WILLIAM T. BAKER, the 10,000-square-foot house has a striking fieldstone-clad facade, giving it the distinguished look of an English manor house. Exterior accents include hand-carved limestone detailing that appears most prominently around windows and the front door, where the stone forms a bold surround. Shed roof dormers, parapet wall gables, and a cedar shake roof amplify the home’s classical character. The interior architecture and all specifications, detailed by SOURCE, marry traditional elements with modern finishes. The foyer offers an introduction to the home’s updated material mix with wood floors that are bordered in sleek black marble and walls sheathed in marble wainscotting topped by pill-grooved wood paneling. Venetian plaster casts a warm glow over many rooms, including the living room, where a stylized plaster fireplace contemporizes its traditional herringbone surround. Ceilings also command attention with their freshness. Both the dining room and primary bedroom ceilings are enlivened by decorative plaster accents, while the primary bathroom is crowned by a dramatic barrel arch. Tailored for comfortable day-to-day living, the house caters to its occupants with ease and style—sometimes with a nod to

the home’s English architectural heritage. The Venetian-plastered kitchen and morning bar, where one can cook a large meal or merely brew a cup of coffee, features an enviable selection of sleek appliances that have been partnered with elegant details by KINGDOM WOODWORKS, such as gleaming brass fixtures and a range backsplash patterned with green and white marble tiles. The adjoining scullery is reminiscent of the working kitchens found in stately British country houses thanks to its bevel-tiled walls, wood pharmacy-table island, and lively checkerboard floor. The primary bedroom suite, located conveniently on the ground floor, offers separate his-and-her closets plus a luxurious bathroom featuring a jewel-box freestanding shower. Upstairs, there are four additional bedroom suites, each with a bathroom whose marble finishes and classic English bathroom fixtures call to mind a sumptuous suite at one of London’s fabled hotels. There is even a second-floor bunkroom with built-in bed niches that suggests a classic British bolt-hole. The home’s lower level is dedicated to wellness, lounging, and an in-law suite. Up-to-date amenities include a media room and bar, gym, sauna, cold plunge, and even a golf simulator. The outdoor features are equally enticing. Honorary Chair

WELCOME IT IS WITH IMMENSE PLEASURE and gratitude that I serve as the honorary chair of the 2025 Southeastern Designer Showhouse. This opportunity is particularly meaningful to me as it allows me to celebrate a return to my beloved hometown of Atlanta and its greatly talented design community. My Southern roots have certainly influenced my design aesthetic. I grew up whiling away hours at The Brownstone—a shop owned by my mother, decorator Susan Wilcox, and her partners, Dotty Travis and Jane Marsden. By simple osmosis, decorating intrinsically became a part of who I am. Southern style—traditional and based in classicism yet always inviting and appropriate for today—is evident in every interior I design. We Southerners have a way of tempering formality with warmth, traditional spaces with modern elements. It’s what you’ll see in this year’s showhouse. I am also deeply grateful to Elizabeth Ralls, Lauren Iverson, and the incredible team at Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles for providing me with this wonderful opportunity. Their dedication to showcasing the finest in design and their unwavering support of the Atlanta design community are truly commendable. I am also profoundly thankful for the warm hospitality and remarkable talent that defines the designers who have created the beautiful spaces in the showhouse. The creativity, passion, and camaraderie that flows within this community are what make events like the Southeastern Designer Showhouse so special and inspiring.
