2021

he year 2021 was another year like we have never witnessed before. We once again were forced to deal with the pandemic and the political tension that has been a mainstay in our society over the past two years. However, we were also challenged with a crisis unlike any I have witnessed in my lifetime. The pandemic induced manufacturing shutdowns and created inventory shortages that impacted almost every manufactured product, including the paint business. Our industry was impacted even greater due to the cold, winter freeze that plunged south down into Texas and Louisiana in February, damaging dozens of raw material plants. What proceeded, starting in April, was an everyday challenge to procure inventory to take care of our customers in an economy quickly recovering from the shutdowns of 2020. It was yet another opportunity for our employees and vendors to show customers how capable we are to take care of them in good times as well as difficult times. We soon found that our competitors could not keep supply up with demand and many of their customers reached out for assistance. This created an incredibly difficult situation for some of our stores who saw their sales virtually double overnight. In almost every instance, we rose to the challenge.

I realize that we are still working through some of the challenges that 2021 presented, but I also know we have a team of people who are proud of our ability to compete and reach new heights. We increased our workforce by over 15% in the last 12 months and we continue to look to expand our workforce in 2022. We anticipate adding several new stores in the coming year and we have added a 9th state to our footprint when we opened our first of several locations in the Tampa, Florida market.

Randy’s career started with the Iowa Paint Company. Through the years he held many positions in the paint industry from outside sales rep, store manager, to counter sales. Randy was very knowledgeable and provided great customer service and color matching over his 40 year career. Store Manager, Mike Walker’s, favorite memory of Randy was when Mike took over in 2007 at Kwal Paint. While getting to know the store staff, including Randy, they both realized they were in the same class in Junior High in 1970. Randy enjoyed a “simple life,” including spending time with family & friends.
