Spectrum Paint: Year In Review 2020

SPECTRUM PAINT NATIONAL SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR 2020:

NEW STORES

Three new stores were added to the Spectrum family in 2020. We acquired the assets of Rockledge Paint & Decorating in Roanoke, VA and opened as Spectrum on February 28th. In March, we opened a brand new store in the Charleston market in West Ashley, making it our sixth in the low country. August saw us acquiring the assets of The Finishes in Bluffton, SC. Its sister store will open soon on nearby Hilton Head Island.

FOOD DRIVE

In July, each store held a food drive in coordination with local food pantries.

MASKS

Counter shields and masks quickly became the new normal and our team was on top of the changes as well as creative with their masks!

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

Spectrum employees raised $2,000 for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation in October by purchasing pink polos for awareness.

IN MEMORIAM

BRIAN YOUNG MANAGER, STAFFORD, VA

Brian Young, husband of Diane, father of 3 passed away May 13, 2020. From our president, Travis Detter: “Brian joined us to open this location a little over a year ago and had a very bright outlook on life and was especially inspirational to me when the pandemic hit our nation. He sent me a very encouraging email and was definitely one of the good people on this earth.” Brian served proudly on active duty in the United States Army and for many years in the New Jersey National Guard as an M1 Armor Crewman. He had a love of sports that included Notre Dame Football and all Philadelphia sports teams. He was a Civil War and World War II history buff and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Brian was a dedicated family man to his wife and children and his greatest joy was sharing in their interests. His three children hold a special place in his heart and he was extremely proud of their accomplishments and never missed an opportunity to be involved in their lives by teaching life values, coaching their team or simply playing in the back yard.

ROBERT STURGEON MANAGER, NORTH SPRINGFIELD

Robert passed away December 31, 2020 due to Covid related complications. Travis Detter, Spectrum president said: “I have known Robert for many years as a peer, competitor, and most recently from being a part of our Spectrum family. I was fortunate enough to get to visit with Robert one last time earlier this month at his store in Missouri. He was truly one of the most kind and benevolent people I have ever known and he will be greatly missed by his wife Janie and family. I know he has had an impact on the people he worked with over the years in the Springfield and Branson area and I know their hearts are broken today as well.”

“I’m not sure where to begin, but I first started working with Robert “Big Dude” in the late 90’s in Ft. Smith, AR where I felt like he and I were one of the best teams I’ve been apart of. We made taking care of customer’s needs a competition, as you can imagine. Robert was responsible for ordering all the sundry and I was responsible for ordering all the paint products. It became a competition when it came to having stock in for our customers. Robert and his wife Janie would go camping every year at Devil’s Den State Park and Robert would always go out of his way to make sure and invite my family and the times that we were able to make it down to the campsite we always felt like part of the family.

While Robert was a Store Manager for Spectrum Paint I learned much more about him, he was a Navy Veteran, he was very kind hearted and would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He had a way of always making others feel they could talk to him about anything. He always invited me to eat dinner at his home when I traveled to SW Missouri, he bought groceries for his fellow employees who were enduring tough times, he was part of a volunteer motorcycle group that honored deceased veterans, he was a gentleman to his wife Janie, he was a “father-figure” to our Account Manager Ray Norman and always took the time to answer any question Ray may have had while learning the paint industry. He was also known for his “Robert-isms” such as “Daaang Boiii” and “Come see me Boiii”.

Robert was a great person and will be missed dearly by many.”
