April greets us with renewed energy and a spirit of growth. As the seasons shift, so does our opportunity to deepen our commitment to service, strengthen our bonds of sisterhood, and continue advancing the mission of Delta Sigma Theta with purpose and unity. This month, we celebrate the impact of our chapter’s ongoing work — from community outreach to educational programming to the quiet acts of sisterly support that often go unseen but never go unfelt. Each of you contributes to the heartbeat of this chapter, and I remain grateful for your dedication, your creativity, and your willingness to show up for one another and for our community. As an extension of our Founders Day Celebration, we collected and delivered supplies to The Hive Community Circle, an organization that supports survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking. Thank you for your generosity and for allowing our chapter to be part of such a meaningful and much needed service to our community.

And as we look ahead to early May, please remember to add The Great Debate and the Gubernatorial Forum to your calendar. I also encourage each of us to recharge, refocus, and recommit to the values that anchor us: scholarship, service, sisterhood, and social action. Together, we will continue to build a chapter culture rooted in excellence, accountability, and love.

“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish...” Psalm 92:13

April is a month of evidence. Evidence that what was planted in the dark can still rise. Evidence that what looked dormant was never dead. Evidence that growth does not ask permission, it simply obeys the call to become.

As women walking in purpose, we are reminded that our lives are not scattered. We are intentional, we are planted, and we are rising individually and together. We flourish because we are planted, not just anywhere, but in community, in sisterhood, in shared purpose, in accountability, and in love.

This month, let us commit to being:

• Rooted in who we are.

• Rising into who we are becoming.

• Ready for what we are called to do.

The Founders Day Committee

Soror Alencia Johnson, author of “Flip The Tables: The Everyday Disruptor’s Guide to Finding Courage and Making Change” served as the keynote speaker of the chapter’s Founders Day Brunch. Soror Johnson, a native of Virginia, has served on campaigns for Presidents Obama and Biden, as well as VicePresident Kamala Harris. She has been recognized on EBONY Magazine’s “Power 100” list of influential African Americans, PRWeek’s “40 under 40” and many other accolades.

Soror April S. Morgan was recognized on April 9, 2026 by The Columbia International Festival Board of Directors and presented a plaque by members of Richland County Council as the 2026 International Volunteer of the Year at the Richland’s International Gala.

April is an accomplished educational leader with over 24 years of experience as educator, school bases mental health counselor, and administrator. She is dedicated advocate for student success. She currently serves as an assistant administrator and previously an assistant principal in Bamberg, SC, where she is committed to fostering a positive school climate, promoting academic excellence, and supporting the social-emotional development of all students. Especially for teachers, students, and families that new to rural South Carolina from other countries and different cultural backgrounds. She currently volunteers with her sorority and is a volunteer member Richland County Council ad hoc committee.

Deeply rooted in her heritage, she remains committed to preserving and celebrating Jamaican culture through her work, her community engagement, her service within her sorority and her grandson’s Princeton and Kingston.

April’s commitment to service, leadership, and cultural preservation continues to leave a lasting impression both inside and outside of the school setting. One of the national heroines is Nanny of the Maroons who’s often referred to as Queen Nanny.

She also served as the First Vice president for the Jamaica Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, and is currently a member of the International Awareness and Involvement Committee with her local chapter and with the South Atlantic Region.

A trailblazer in her field, April is the first woman of Caribbean descendent administrator in the history of the High School she currently serves and one of only four Black administrators in the school’s 80-year history. Her leadership is grounded in collaboration, equity, and a passion for empowering young people to reach their full potential.

In addition to her work in education, April is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where she contributes to community service initiatives and leadership development. She is also motivates and advocate for women’s empowerment, using her voice to inspire others to lead with purpose and resilience.

Our Delta Dears organized two significant events this month: the Harvest Hope Distribution and the Delta Dears Sisterhood Luncheon.

The Delta DEARs Sisterhood Luncheon was a collaborative initiative between the Richland County Alumnae and Columbia Alumnae Chapters. Hosted at the Brookland Baptist Conference Center, the event began with attendees being warmly welc d d clear signage guiding the appropriate location. The staff contributed to th success by ensuring that all accommodations were creating a pleasant expe everyone. A special 85th A sign provided a meaningful highlighting the significanc occasion.
