October ushers in the beauty of autumn — a powerful reminder that transformation is both natural and necessary. As the leaves release and make space for new growth, we too are invited to let go of what no longer serves us, recommitting to inner healing and outward impact. Each season holds purpose, and the crisp autumn air calls us to refocus, refine, and rise. This month presents many opportunities to stand in solidarity with women and girls locally and around the globe.

From World Mental Health Day to the International Day of the Girl Child, to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we pause to honor their journeys, amplify their voices, and reaffirm our collective responsibility to support their holistic well-being. The challenges faced from healthcare access to personal safety and economic equity are vast. But when women thrive, so do families, communities, and futures.

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

“Hope”

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Angel Malone, Chaplain

Hope is the quiet strength that keeps us standing when the winds of life try to bend us. It is the whisper in the dark that says, “Keep going, God is not finished yet.”

In this season of change, as the air cools and the leaves fall, we are reminded that endings are often the soil for new beginnings. Hope tells us that every trial holds a promise, that every delay still leads toward destiny, and that God’s timing, though sometimes hidden, is always perfect.

When we fix our eyes on Him, our hope is no longer fragile or fleeting. It becomes an anchor, steady, sure, and rooted in faith. Hope transforms waiting into worship and fear into forward motion. So today, let us hold tightly to hope. Let it breathe life into our prayers, light into our paths, and unity into our sisterhood. May we encourage one another with the truth that God’s plans are still good, and that even now, He is working all things together for our good.

DELTADEARS HONOR SERVICE& COMMUNITY COMMITMENT WITH HARVEST HOPE

When the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. program year winds down and we prepare for another cycle of impactful service, one thing remains constant—the unwavering commitment of the Delta DEARS. Our DEARSDistinguished, Energetic, Active, and Respected Sorors continue to be a powerful force for good, even during the quieter summer months. Their dedication to community service never takes a break.

In partnership with Harvest Hope Food Bank and the residents of Richland County, the Delta DEARS remain steadfast in their mission to serve. Whether distributing food, sharing kind words, or simply offering a smile, they bring hope and nourishment to countless families throughout the community.

In September, Soror Clemons provided fresh produce to be given to Seniors along with their Harvest Hope boxes and the DEARS took a heartfelt moment to honor one of their beloved partners in service—Mr. Sam Blakely. a devoted driver for Harvest Hope. As Mr. Blakely steps into retirement, the DEARs expressed their deep gratitude with a special gift, recognizing his years of faithful service during numerous food distributions. His kindness, dependability, and commitment have made a lasting impact— not only on Harvest Hope's operations but in the hearts of all who worked alongside him. While his daily presence will be missed, his legacy of service and compassion lives on.

As we bid farewell to Mr. Blakely, the Delta DEARS reaffirm their dedication to upholding the values of compassion, service, and unity - a legacy that continues to thrive. In September, during their regular food distribution, the DEARS also helped share information about “Eat Fresh Freely,” a pilot initiative launched by Richland Library. This community fridge program offers free, fresh, and locally sourced produce— no questions asked—at select library locations. The initiative aims to support food access, boost wellness, and combat food insecurity throughout Richland County.

Our Delta DEARS continue to embody the core principles of sisterhood, scholarship, and service. They invite you to join them in making a difference—while having fun doing it!

Join the Delta DEARS every first Monday of the month from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Delta Life Development Center. For more information, please contact Soror Geraldine Parker, Delta DEARS Committee Chair. 10
