First year students: Your Sun Devil story starts today

Page 1

Welcome to your future Your Sun Devil story starts today Create the college experience you want with academic and student activities.

Your life as a student Living on campus The College of Health Solutions offers a residential college experience on all four Phoenix metropolitan campuses, fondly referred to as Health Quarters or HQ. HQ is present in Gordon Commons at the Downtown Phoenix campus, residential communities at the Tempe campus, Lantana at the Polytechnic campus and Casa de Oro at the West Valley campus. In your residential college community, you will live and learn with fellow College of Health Solutions students who share similar majors. At HQ, you’ll have academic and social programs where you can interact with faculty, advisors and your peers. Participating in on-campus activities develops your academic skills, connects you with your new community and links you to opportunities that contribute to both personal and professional growth. Each floor has dedicated student leaders who plan activities and support your success. Peer academic leaders (PALs) and community assistants are just a door knock away. They’re here to guide your transition to university life by connecting you with your peers, your college and your campus.

Get connected Attend student activities and connect with resources that meet your individual needs. Reach out to your College of Health Solutions academic advisor and your student support specialist. They’re ready to help you join the academic and social programs available to you. Academic advisors know your degree requirements from beginning to end, and they are available to help you strategically plan the order of your courses. You can direct most university-related questions to your advisor, and they can guide you to available resources. Student support specialists are professional staff that guide you through your college career. This includes checking in periodically with you regarding academics, connecting you to campus and college resources, helping you to navigate the college and university, hosting workshops and encouraging you to participate in activities in and out of the classroom.
