Message

t is indeed a great pleasure to issue a message for the second International Virtual Conference on Development Education (IVCDE 2021) organized by the Asean Research Organization.

IVCDE 2021

We, as researchers can be considered as one of the “main pillars” in the world in terms of “investigation and exploring” which Dissemination,Networking and Collaboration(DNC) is fundamental and most wanted in this scenario with Covid-19.In this context, the theme of the conference“ “Creative Responses in Migrating to the New Normal Environment,” is suitable and applicable and need to be admired.

2

We are living in the twenty-first century in which people are always concerned about ‘individual identity’ than ‘the identity of the world’. This is being observed as “identical” across countries, regions, nations, cultures, ethnic groups as well as religions. The repercussions of this can be seen from the point of view of violence, conflicts, At the moment all of us experiencing a disaster with the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. In this context, we have to question whether the researchers are addressing the manifest problem rather than the latent problem which can be considered as important for investigation. The research architecture in the world should be governed by the agenda which always deals with something that should touch the hearts, minds, and souls of people in terms of governance, conscience as well as relations regarding the well-being of Human, Animals, and the Earth (HAE). The Conference steams include Development Education, institutional research, action research interventions, outcomes based education, information and communication technology, educational management, community-based ecotourism, sustainable development, regenerative development, ecology and conservation, biodiversity, conservation of heritage sites, indigenous culture and arts, oil and petroleum, among other fields. These subject areas are diverse but have the sense of ingredients to integrate in terms of adding value to the existing knowledge domain which cannot be mutually exclusive. Asean Research Organization can be considered as one of the leading research institutes in the region which always concern about Dissemination , Networking and Collaboration(DNC) in the world of research . Even though, a scholar is from a geographically small country, his/her contribution in the field of research is of immense value and demonstrates how large he/she is, in terms of value, that is being added to the current stock of knowledge. Thus, I hope 25th to 27th February ,2021 would be one of the most memorable for all presenters with contributions and networking in the field of research. It is a great challenge to organize such an event and the organizers of this event should be praised and admired for organizing such a difficult task. Finally, I take this opportunity to Wishing you all a very insightful and rewarding conference! Thanks and Best Regards,

PROFESSOR NALIN ABEYSEKERA Head-Department of Marketing Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) The Open University of Sri Lanka

Message

ducational mindset among researchers across and beyond boarders have been stippled by forces brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Administrators, educational managers, instructional leaders and the learners themselves were provoked and challenged as to how to respond to this new normal environment. Nobody in the academe had envisioned that this event could have happened. Nevertheless, being as responsive, and as passionate to their chosen profession, academicians who are researchers themselves were able to adapt to the new normal and had offered the best ever that they could offer. The pandemic taught them the value of resiliency, tolerance, creativity, innovativeness, and adaptability. The situation created and developed a situation for the researchers to look into all possibilities to test and find out the feasibility and effectiveness of online teaching, virtual conferences, virtual meeting with parents, virtual fun activities, and the like. Students of Philippine School Doha were not dampened by the situation either, but more than ever, they were challenged to move forward and continue fighting for the known and the unknown of life especially as a student researcher. The myriads of published researches of the students in international journals for the last two years up to his year is a clear indication that these students were developed to be literate communicators, empowered leaders; adaptable, research-adept, nurturing, experienced, result-based, and service-oriented learners worthy of much appreciation and jubilation by the school community.

IVCDE 2021

Activities such as this International Virtual Conference on Development Education on the other hand, shall further enhance the knowledge, skills and values of the students all around the globe that somehow will be magnified and eventually be a source of inspiration and motivation, for them to be of service to others. Congratulations ASTR! Soar high to inspire!

Message

am extremely delighted to know that Asian Society of Teachers for Research (ASTR) Inc, Philippines is organizing the 2nd International Virtual Conference on Development Education (IVCDE 2021) on the theme of “Creative Responses in Migrating to the New Normal Environment - February 25-27, 2021.

IVCDE 2021

I extend my profound congratulations to the ASTR leadership, management and staff/team upon performing this enviable academic feat!

I understand that research becomes significant only after it is accessible, readable and visible. For, research is to benefit man. It is to add to the body of knowledge already available in the world. It is to transform human life to its better and improved version. It is to mitigate human misery. It is to make the world we inhabit not only a much better but also a happier place for all of us to live in. Research is to know what pains man, why it does so; and how it could be healed. All this would be possible only when research gets showcased, projected, published, discussed, deliberated upon and brought before global public eyes. The international conferences serve as excellent platforms to thus share human experiences, knowledge earned, issues explored, problems examined, phenomena investigated and the outcomes arrived at; first to bring man its benefits and next to stimuate further probe in the given areas. I am indeed very glad to witness ASTR doing all that I have mentioned above. ASTR Inc. has come to be an academic and research force to reckon with at a world front with its international outreach has been able to align ASTR with great many other academic, research and professional international outfits. ASTR is there to stay, thrive, serve and contribute! I am very thankful to the IVCDE -- 2021 organizing team for once again making me a part of this highly fascinating, enriching, productive and meaningful global moot! To conclude, to you Russel B. Obsioma Sir goes my special appreciation for being the moving force behind the conference. Kind regards, DR. GHULAM ALI BURIRO Assistant Professor, Institute of English Language and Literature University of Sindh, Jamshoro Pakistan

rom 2007 to 2020, I have established nine organizations with specialized purposes to serve and mentor the needs of over 500 institutions and about 10,000 teachers, students and professionals in over 50 countries. The headquarters is in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. We have organized scientific conferences in about 30 countries, published 17 journals, and conducted over 500 trainings in 10 years. In 2013, the Philippine Association for Institutions of Research and the International Association of Multidisciplinary Research were the first private research associations in the world which obtained ISO 9001:2000 certification setting the bar of defining the auditable standards and processes for conferences, trainings, publications, and membership. Mentoring our members included establishing and nourishing cultures of research which supported institutional accreditation, complied with ranking and promotion of faculty and increased publication productivity and impact through their citations. In 2014, I left my university to do fulltime mentoring that brought me to all corners of the Philippines, Asia and the Middle East. Lessons learned include: the lack of a unifying program for research in public and private schools left gaps n the research capability of schools which opened the door to mentor-leaders. The wave of world ranking of universities triggered a high demand for Scopus publications, which generated trainings and mentoring for publications and citations. The increasing levels of accreditation of schools triggered a demand for research conferences, trainings, publications, memberships and awards. Internationalization programs of schools propelled for research services that led to partnerships and collaborations. The success of my organizations ignited the rise of similar organizations which helled meet the rising demand. Many organizations came and fizzled for lack of sustaining mechanisms. My organizations have business offices, websites, fulltime employees, linkages, and compliant to all government regulations. With covid 19, my organizations were shut down for 3 months and slowly recovered this time all our services migrated online via zoom. We have a solid base of membership who need our services. We focus on the training of mentors to prepare the second liners. Online services define our future as we are able to reach out to more clients and offer our services at much lower cost. I started to light my candle and today, thousands of candles are lighted in the Asia Pacific proving that once a mentor, always a mentor! ithin the layers of reality that all people have observed and experienced, there lie the fascinating and poignant stories of the many who were discriminated and persecuted, who have lost their loved ones, who have lost hope, who have succumbed to defeat and lost their sanity. These scenarios, where the rising death toll seemed endless every day, bring us to the realization that the element of adapting change in the new normal, the impact of global economic downfall, the polity of people, and the societal contribution are ripe areas for research. The call for no divorce between soft and hard sciences but a unity of the two can effect societal change and can spell a difference in the macro level of the social map. Bringing creative responses in Migrating to the New Normal Environment is a metaphor of the word EUNOIA; means beautiful thinking. Thus, researchers today must be in the state of EUNOIA to begin their curiosity of examining the global phenomenon. Semiotically, this word consists of the 5-vowel letters in a row of which without the letter N it becomes meaningless. This tickles the mind that the vowel letters of this word have a deep meaning that research may take off. E means Explore possibilities, U suggests Understanding the phenomenon, O means Offer a better change through research, I suggests Investigation and A urges us to be Advocate for change. EUNOIA denotes a state of mind to see things at the right perspective with a positive thought of rising above the storm and of seeing more opportunities than difficulties.

An Exploratory Inquiry into the Second-Language Acquisition of Junior High School Non-Readers ANGELO JOHN C. PALMA http://orcid.org/0000-0002-2267-6816 angelojohn.palma@gmail.com University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Philippines Learning a second language bridges the gap and links people to the world by creating a mellifluous relationship where information, ideas, and culture are shared through communication. The Philippines is ranked fifth in the world’s largest English speaking countries. However, surveys on International academic assessment for high school students found that the country ranks lowest in English Language reading and speaking comprehension. This paper explores the barriers to second language acquisition of junior high school non-readers in a public high school in Negros Occidental, Philippines. This qualitative research utilized a phenomenological approach. The Philippine Informal Reading Inventory Assessment results were utilized as part of the inclusion criteria to identify the participants. The data were gathered through an in-depth interview and were analyzed using the thematic analysis approach by Lichtman (2010). This undertaking generated three themes that depict the lived experiences of the respondents in L2 acquisition: (a) Cradle of L2 learning, (b) Practice of Target Language, (c) Learning Conditions. The findings indicate that external and internal factors substantially affect the L2 learning of students, and these factors in SLA will remain incessant when not addressed at once. The 2018 and 2019 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) revealed the Philippines’ below average score in reading. Hence, this embedded study aimed to find out if contextualization and tangible turntaking technique when used as interventions can increase Grade 7 students’ reading comprehension level. It also sought to explain statistical results through focus group discussions of research participants. Chosen through cluster sampling, 115 Grade 7 students answered standardized Reading comprehension tests. Nine of these students were chosen through purposive sampling to take part in the focus group discussion. Mean and paired sample t-test revealed that contextualization as intervention made no significant difference to pre and post-test scores. Tangible turn-taking technique when used alone made a significant difference but did not affect students’ reading comprehension level. Combining the two interventions raised students’ reading comprehension level from Frustration to Instructional. Thematic analysis showed that teachers used videos as springboard for contextualization and improvised their tangible turn-taking technique through cut-outs of relevant objects. Teachers also used rereading, understanding and familiarization of content as techniques to supplement the research interventions. Insights gained by students had the themes: negative emotion during the intervention, applicability of lessons to real life and request for relevant tangible techniques.

Social Media Exposure and English Writing Proficiency of Grade 11 Students in a Philippine Public High School ESTERLINE N. ESMAN https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9270-3744 esterline.esman001@deped.gov.ph University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Philippines Social media has become a vital part of people’s daily communication activities in all walks of life and had globalized its use, especially to learners. Learners’ propensity to social media has come to increasing involvement in the internet cafes. Since its medium of instruction is mainly English, it influences learners’ English communication skills, especially in writing. The paper examined the relationship between the extent of exposure to social media and the English writing proficiency of Grade 11 students in a Philippine public senior high school. In this descriptive research design, data were collected using the self-administered survey questionnaire and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results reveal that the respondents demonstrated an average extent of exposure to social media when grouped according to their demographic profiles and an internet connection and were average in their English writing proficiency level. The results also established a slight positive significant relationship between exposure to social media and English writing proficiency. Generally, the paper validates how social media exposure influences English writing proficiency as intervened by the academic language education. AIDA V. RIGOR https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7926-O483 Aydzrigor@gmail.com.ph Jose Rizal Memorial State University Philippines Filipinos are known to be proficient in English. However, the Philippines’ latest performance seemed to be alarming since there is a marked downfall of its rank in the Proficiency Index. The study was conducted to determine the relationship between English grammar proficiency and oral fluency of lifelong learners from five courses namely: BEED, BSHRM, BSBA, BSA and BSF. It employed the descriptive-correlational method using a 60-item test and an extemporaneous speaking activity. Descriptive measures such as frequency, percentage and weighted mean were utilized employing Pearson Correlation Test to determine the relationship of the variables being investigated. Findings revealed that lifelong learners obtained the lowest level in English grammar proficiency in terms of subject-verb agreement, verb tenses and word modifiers but obtained “average” level in oral fluency test. Results further disclosed that there is no significant relationship between the English grammar proficiency and oral fluency of the respondents which means that if one is good in written grammar, it does not follow that he is also good in oral discourse. It is recommended that English instructors must device varied teaching strategies/learning materials involving grammar content in order for the students to be acquainted with the different grammatical rules and allow them to use it in both written and oral communication. Inter-level Stages of English-Filipino-Ilocano Codeswitching in an L2 Classroom: A Basis for an Intervention Program CHARISSA E. CALINGGANGAN https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4980-7705 calinggangan.ce@pnu.edu.ph Philippine Normal University North Luzon Campus Philippines

IVCDE 2021

Researches about codeswitching (CS) are abounds, but very few on comparison of its inter-level stages, specifically among Grades 7 to 11. This study identified the inter-level stages of English-Filipino-Ilocano codeswitching among the Grade 7 to 11 classes that used English as the medium of instruction in a public school. The researcher video recorded the chosen class discussions of the five grade levels and transcribed these video recordings. The researcher conducted an conversation-like interview among the teachers and the students who codeswitched to elicit reasons for codeswitching. The CS typology and the contexts where CS occurred were examined and analyzed by the researcher. The results showed that intrasentential codeswitching occurred the most, followed by tag switching, and intersentential had the least occurrence, and as grade level goes higher, the lesser the CS in the intrasentential level i.e., Grade 7 had the most number of codeswitches, followed by Grade 8, then Grade 9, Grade 10 and Grade 11 had the least number of codeswitches. Compensation for difficulty, for inquiry/elicitation/requesting, interjection/utterance filler, elaboration/explanation, conveying cultural/behavioral terminologies, and sharing personal experiences/ observations were some of the contexts when codeswitching occur as found out in this study. The article concludes with some reasons for CS given by students and why a student commits a particular typology in some instances. It recommends more activities on vocabulary development since deficiency or lack of vocabulary seemed to be the general reasons given by the students and affirmed by teachers in codeswitching. Another important recommendation is for teachers to avoid CS so that students will not CS as well.

Madrasah is regarded as the Islamic culture’s identity; however, its operation has not been given more attention. The study aimed to evaluate the operation of the regulated elementary Madrasah in the Philippines and suggest policy to integrate DepEd Order no. 41, s. 2017 and DepEd Order no. 51, s. 2004 in the drafting of education code for the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education in the Bangsamoro region. The study is a descriptive survey utilizing a researcher-made questionnaire administered to 138 teachers, principals, and administrators, using total population sampling, employing mean. Results show that educational planning and programming, learners’ assessment, permit to operate, monitoring, and reporting financial support was low. Similarly, its attainment of objectives on educational opportunities was low. Hence, regulated elementary Madrasah still has helped improve pupils’ competencies in Islamic studies and the Arabic language, which enhanced their spiritual and intellectual growth as Muslim youth. However, to function correctly in the regulated Elementary Madrasah operation require rigid planning, organization, coordination, and control. It is suggested to harmonize the integration of the policy guidelines on Madrasah in the k to 12 basic education program following standards curriculum for elementary for more responsive, effective, and efficient implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Academic Variables as Predictors of Success of Engineering Graduates in the Philippine Licensure Examinations SIDDARTHA B. VALLE https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1709-7668 siddartha.valle@ub.edu.ph University of Batangas Philippines Licensure examinations have been one of the preferred tools utilized by regulatory agencies to evaluate the eligibility of licensing applicants to enter into a profession, in which incompetent execution would be a threat to the public. Due to the value attributed to the success in the exams, institutions of higher learning rely on predictor models as basis for initiating strategies to improve their graduates’ passing rates. This study determined the predictability of examination success of fresh graduates from four engineering programs. Pearson’s correlation evaluated the relationship between the students’ academic performance vis-à-vis their licensure exam ratings, while multivariate regression analysis derived the success models. The correlation ex post facto showed a significant correlation between the scores in each subject of the licensure exams and the students’ aggregated grades in the courses corresponding to the exam syllabus. Results revealed that one variable is most significant in predicting the success in three licensure exams: Design and Construction for Civil Engineering, Engineering Sciences and Allied Subjects for Electrical Engineering, Machine Design, Materials and Shop Practice for Mechanical Engineering. No single variable emerged as the determinant predictor in the licensure exams for Electronics Engineering. Weak correlations indicate that good academic performance may not always translate to satisfactory performance in the licensure exams. Exploring Vertical Coherence of Content Topics in Philippine Spiral Kto10 Mathematics Curriculum RYAN V. DIO https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4170-8828 dio.ryan11@gmail.com Sorsogon State College Philippines

IVCDE 2021

Vertical coherence of the content topics coupled with careful sequencing of learning competencies considering student’s cognitive level of development has been identified as an excellent characteristic of a well-planned spiral progression approach of the curriculum. This descriptive-evaluative method of study tailored with the Discrepancy Evaluation Model (DEM) as a framework of analysis explored the Philippine Kindergarten to Grade 10 (Kto10) mathematics curriculum guide (CG) to determine the program strengths and areas that need improvement. The qualitative approach to the analysis of CG is supported by the feedbacks and experiences of 16 teacher-informants (3 Male, 13 Female). The curriculum mapping revealed that content topics were arranged in increasing complexity (though there were observed discontinuity) with the corresponding progression of mathematical tasks across the grade level. However, the spiral design of the curriculum failed to decongest the distribution of the content and learning competencies, which became unrealistic to implement for general classrooms according to the level of cognitive development of Filipino learners as revealed by the feedbacks and experiences of mathematics teachers. The K to 10 Mathematics curriculum needs revision covering the most essential learning competencies (vertically arranged) per content area anchored on international benchmarks.

Counterproductive Tendencies: A Psychological Inventory of the Military Cadets of the Philippines MARIA VICTORIA B. DARIANO https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1890-7287 alab_almac@yahoo.com Philippine Military Academy Philippines The Philippine Military Academy was alarmed by recent incidences of cadet practices that discredit it from producing military officers with a strong moral commitment. This study aimed at sifting through the counterproductive tendencies of the newly recruited cadets. The Applicant Risk Profiler (ARP) was employed among the 362 members of the PMA Class 2023. This tool measures the counterproductive tendencies with the variables Deception (tantamount to lying in the PMA context), Integrity (tendency to steal), Illegal Drug Use, Workplace Policy Non-compliance, and Workplace Aggression. The majority of the cadet-respondents fall within the “Low” risk area. This means that, generally, they have a low tendency to exhibit those counterproductive tendencies. However, 46 cadets fall within the “High” risk area. This means that their character may be blemished and may influence their peers. Their flawed character can have a trickle-down effect on the cadet culture, leadership approach, and training climate, which may compromise the true essence of PMA and the values it upholds. This indicates that PMA should take precautionary measures by designing an appropriate intervention. This is to process these cadets with “High” counterproductive tendencies and pre-empt its behavioral manifestation, which might endanger themselves, co-cadets, and the entire organization. The study documented the indigenous knowledge pertaining to yantok chair production practices. More specifically, it explores how the rich arts and craft of the Yogad community portrays the artistic quality and creative imagination of the regional craftsmen of the country. The creative process in yantok chair production exemplifies brain-hand-tool relationship disclosing the inseparable relation between mind, body and environment (Marchand, 2012). Threats in the sustainability of the creative handicraft emerge in an endless stream as the global environment changes and society develops rapidly. With consideration of the sustainable development goals, the concept of cradle to cradle (McDonough & Braungart, 2002), which advocated that humans should learn from nature and that everything is a nutrient and can return to nature, ecological benefits are pursued. To interweave these concepts, this empirical study utilized qualitative research employing descriptive and ethnographic research design using observation, interview and documentary as methods. The participants were household heads, eldest members, manufacturers and weavers of the Yogad Tribe community. This study seeks to answer the various perspectives in the creative process of artisanship and how this intangible cultural heritage responds to global pressures. The traditional craftsmanship practices indicate how creative activity accesses cognitive innovation and must be subjected for preservation, conservation and promotion towards sustainability and livelihood security.

Unravelling Millenial Fever on Wattpad Stories JOSHUA F. NAPILAY https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8382-0885 joshuanapilay@gmail.com Iloilo Science and Technology University-Miagao Campus Philippines The present study was undertaken to unravel the principal reasons why Millennials were hooked on reading Wattpad stories. This employed the quantitative-qualitative research design. The respondents of the survey were the Millennial Wattpad readers. The method used was frequency count to determine the commonalities of emerging themes for the quantitative part. For the qualitative part, an individual interview was employed, transcribed, and subjected to thematic analysis to arrive at theme identification. The findings of the study revealed that Millennials were hooked in reading Wattpad stories because of the following: Male Protagonist as the Miniature of an Ideal Man, Attraction Towards Opposite Personalities, Fiction Tends to Wrap the Reader’s Sense of Reality, Bad Boy as Women’s Preference of Mr. Right, Reader’s Possessions of an Imaginary Wealth and Millenials as Romance-filled Being. Based on these results, it may conclude that Millenial Wattpad readers had the same preference in choosing the three most-read Wattpad stories because most of them stated that these three were among their favorites. The readers quickly hooked into Wattpad stories, which feed them information that was beyond reality. The main reason why they kept on reading a Wattpad story was because of the characters: their looks and their personalities, which defined as their ideal man. They also loved to read Wattpad story including characters with different personalities, which gave them thrills and triggered the readers to read up to the end of the story. Quantifying the Economic Cost of Traffic Congestion in Principal Arterial Roads in CALABARZON CHRISTIAN VINCENT C. SAJOR https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1668-2598 christianvincent97@gmail.com University of Batangas Philippines

Urban development in the city of Lipa, Batangas has resulted in rising populations, which lead to sustainability issues in transportation infrastructure. Traffic congestions have become prevalent along routes between cities with increasing numbers of establishments. This study compares the economic advantages between traversing two routes connecting Lipa City and San Pablo City, Laguna, during peak hours: the Lipa-Alaminos Route and the Sto. Tomas-Alaminos Route. Both roads run for 24 km. The study involved determining the average hourly traffic in each route, calculation of the vehicle operating costs, and estimation of the travelers’ opportunity losses due to congestion delays. Volume analysis found that Sto. Tomas-Alaminos receives higher peak hour traffic due to the more significant number of industries on this route. More tricycles ply through Sto. Tomas-Alaminos, while private motorists and freight services prefer Lipa-Alaminos. Lighter traffic in the Lipa-Alaminos route resulted in three times lower vehicle operating costs during the morning and afternoon peak periods. Heavier traffic in the Sto. Tomas-Alaminos Route brought longer delays, incurring higher opportunity losses for travelers using public transportation. The result of this study may be utilized by traffic managers as a basis for road rehabilitation and development to relieve congestion in these routes.

The Experience of Conflict Management of Public Secondary School Administrators: A Phenomenological Inquiry JOEBEL G. IMPERIAL https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0074-3202 joebelimperial@gmail.com University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Philippines The school administrators’ skill in managing conflict and resolution is vital towards creating a peaceful and productive working environment. The purpose of this phenomenological study is to explore the lived experiences of public secondary school administrators on conflict management. Using a purposive sampling technique, three school administrators participated in an in-depth interview. The data were analyzed using the recursive textual analysis aided by the framework of Lichtman. The study’s findings show that school administrators primarily consider the source of conflict to understand the appropriate approach to apply. By classification, the conflict between teachers usually rooted in jealousy, faction, personal grudges, and pride. In contrast, conflicts between teachers and administrators would usually involve the performance of duties. Moreover, they believe that there is no single approach to be followed in the implementation of conflict resolution strategies since it depends on the situation and the parties involved. The findings suggest that each person is dynamic, and the beauty of dynamism of people enables them to understand and resolve conflicts in the end. IVCDE 2021

MARYFE D. TOYOKAN https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5764-9925 maryfe_toyokan@dlsu.edu.ph Mountain Province State Polytechnic College Philippines This study aims to examine the environmental and economic impacts of solid waste management in Metro Manila using the LEAP-IBC and developing two scenarios, which include Business-As-Usual and Methane Recovery. The years 2010 and 2050 are its base and final years. Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) is employed to analyze the efficiency and viability of the methane recovery scenario. To establish the relationship between methane emissions and the economy, Stata 15 is used. Results obtained show that introducing methane recovery reduced methane emissions by 45.733 million metric tons by 2025, 70.386 million metric tons by 2030, and 81.299 million metric tons by 2040. These are 36% (2025), 52% (2030), and 54% (2040) reduction in the business-as-usual scenario. A maximum of 0.019 °C temperature increase is avoided with the methane recovery scenario. The CBA results indicate that the methane recovery is viable as the Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR) is 2.10. Results from Stata 15 reinforces and asserts that the solid waste management can be improved by using methane recovery. The energy sector of the developed LEAP-IBC model can be further explored as it is economically exploitable and is aligned with the Philippines’ goal of transitioning towards renewable energy sources and reducing climate change contributions.

Determinants of Career Change of Overseas Filipino Professionals in the Middle East JEFFREY PUESTA UY https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4457-6293 juy@aldar.com Aldar Properties/Philippine Christian University-Middle East United Arab Emirates The notion of “one life-one career” is no longer relevant. The era of digitalization has significantly changed the way things are done. This study uses Rhodes and Doering’s (1983) integrated model of career change. We determined which of the independent variables, singly or in combination, predicts the career change of Overseas Filipino Professionals. Among the 12 factors, only the current position in the company has a significant coefficient (ß = 6.94) at a p-value of .003. This means that employees with a higher position in the company, the greater the propensity that they will change career. The personality traits do not show a statistically significant relationship with career change having a p-value above 0.05 (p=.919). This means that career change is not affected by personality traits. With the six facets of job satisfaction, only the work at present job has a significant (ß = 2) at a p-value of .001. This means that when people are satisfied with their present work, the more they will be ready for a career change. With the 23 factors combined, only the current salary and work in present job has a significant (ß = 3.368 and 2.512) at a p-value of .040 and .001, respectively. This means that when people are satisfied with their present work, they tend to have a decent and higher salary compared to their previous company. The kind of entertainment we chose to view in class is a reflection of the quality of people we are; thus, this study examines the use of Igorot images as seen in the films as instructional tools to encourage and endure inspiration in MPSPC Criminology students and also to observe their insights and reactions about the use of films featuring Igorot culture in the classroom. The methodology for this study was based on Eisner’s characteristics of Qualitative inquiry that included the exploration of the ways literature teachers make content meaningful and provide effectively, inclusive instruction for students who are from a diverse of interests, abilities, and life experiences and the use of a self-administered paper-based questionnaire as an instrument in answering the effect of using films for Criminology students which will meet their needs in each different learning situation. The results indicate that films featuring Igorot culture should be used more in the classrooms as supplemental instructional tools, because they deliver an effective means in providing motivation and interests for self-directed learning to confidently respond to the [Igorot] culture shown which have been ignored, misunderstood, or misrepresented from colonial to contemporary times. The study exposed significant perceptions about the use of Igorot culture as seen in films in the classroom. A key pedagogical implication suggested by the study is that there is a need for more systematic mechanisms for sharing information such as employing varied teaching strategies and activities in integrating authentic materials in the classrooms that cater to varied learning needs and abilities among literature students in MPSPC.

An Exploratory Inquiry into the Realities of Gay Physical Education Teachers in Public Schools MARIJOY I. VESTIL https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9634-1616 vestilmarijoy@gmail.com University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Philippines Education is a process of welcoming truth and opportunity. It is the prudent, encouraged, and respectful learning undertaken in the belief that all should have the chance to share in life. Befittingly, there are no gender biases when it comes to being a teacher. However, this all depends on one’s working environment. This study investigates the attitudes, beliefs, and practices of five gay physical education teachers in a public high school identified using a purposive sampling technique. The inquiry is aided by a phenomenological research approach wherein the data were gathered using an in-depth interview. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis by Lichtman’s 3-Cs: coding, categorizing, and conceptualizing. The findings showed participants’ occupational socialization; these are considerations that they get from colleagues and students, heteronormativity: is how the conditions perceived what is normal, and aspirations; is a goal that is strongly desired in teaching physical education. These findings suggest a different perspective of being gay and a teacher teaching physical education that adheres to institutional standards of authentic education. Furthermore, understanding gay physical education teachers’ situation needs to be addressed to attain the so-called “chance to share in life.” Keywords: Gender and Development, occupational socialization, phenomenology, Philippines

Cisgender Identity Amid Figured Worlds: Close Encounter of Being (Masque) Uline in MPSPC’s Male Dominated Course JONNELLE D. FAGSAO https://orcid.org/0000-000-0002-7470-2203 jonnellefagsao@gmail.com Mountain Province State Polytechnic College Philippines It is the search of who we are that gives direction and meaning to education. How do we begin, then, in our new pathways towards the fulfillment of educating ourselves amid identity in a school climate? Individual interviews and observations were conducted throughout this study to comprehend how students [personally] acknowledged as “cisgender” male students perceive the Bontoc campus climate at the ROTC UNIT-MPSPC and in what ways their experiences are shaped by that climate in the Criminology Department. By taking a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) that considers the ways in which sexuality, gender, class, and other identity markers come together, this research adapted Queer Theory, Gee’s (2005) analytic guidelines, and Holland et al.’s Figured Worlds Identity (FWI) category that draws especially from exploring three Criminology male students’ constructions of being cisgenders that shaped their participation in school male-dominated activities, from which to understand the way that activities and classroom contexts shaped, influenced, reflected, and/or formed their experiences as being cisgenders in a male-dominated classroom climate. Rather than viewing identity through a singular lens, the term identity displays how manifold characteristics of one’s identity come together to form one’s complete (gender) identity, conveying concurrently the mechanisms and the whole.
