- ISSUE 7 SU MME R- AUT UMN
2023
Welcome to the 7th issue of London based global Asian networking luxury lifestyle webzine Aspire: The New Age Asian Magazine.
This issue has been put together mostly in London’s glorious summer time and then as gorgeous autumn enveloped us here in its autumnal hues. It’s been a special one in many ways, for the deets- read on…
The issue opened with us reviewing a coronation themed brunch at a fancy Indian restaurant in Westminster Yaatra, on the day of the Kings coronation historic event in London. There’s been the Wimbledon soirée hosted by Taj st James court hotel in London with tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi in attendance this summer which was outstandingly hosted by Taj hotel london; then there was the iconic House of Ming opening in London which surely was a summer highlight restaurant opening in the city. The Michelin star restaurant Benares also makes an appearance in this issue with the costal menu series by their iconic Chef Sameer Taneja. As Indian single malts are taking their place in the global luxury fine whiskeys of the world, we showcase two of our top favourites this season, Kamet and Indri. But a big highlight for us at Aspire for this issue has been to feature the powerhouse, the formidable corporate world BigwigMs Indra Nooyi’s book and share snippets of my interview with her in a feature in this issue, about her vision, aspirations, success mantras, navigating glass ceilings as a global Asian and leading from the top… in this issue we celebrate her and all the other movers and shakers we feature who are leading the way, raising the banner for Asian achievements collectively and that too world over. As you browse through the pages of this
very interesting issue if we may say so ourselves(!), you will read about the dynamic father-son entrepreneur duo from India who have set up a luxury store in London for their brand Aranyani, their leather bags et al are all about exquisite craftsmanship from their atelier in India, creating positive impact in the world of fashion with their focus on sustainability; also they showcase Indian heritage and have raised the bar for that in the luxury segment in London. We showcase singer Asees Kaur who captivated London audiences at her recent house-full show, no surprise that she’s India’s 3rd Most Streamed Female Artist on Spotify. We have an Editor’s pick section too and you can read about
theatre, concerts, musicals, west end shows, movies, restaurant openings, events et al… We have features from UK, UAE, Asia, South Africa in this issue with brand stories of aspirations and success, which can inspire you no end. Read about luxury hotels from Lake District to Jaipur and you will get staycation ideas in plenty, whether in UK India or Dubai! You will also read about a charming and delectable ‘An Ode to Cornwall’ Afternoon Tea, at Intercontinental Park Lane London. Another highlight for this issue has been featuring ace designer Rina Dhaka, she’s often referred to as the Gautier of the east. There’s mention of charity polo matches of Rajasthan too among the pages as you check out the features. And last but not the least, was great to wrap up this issue with Asian Achievers Awards events coverage, a charity auction there raised about £200000 for a UK charity with projects in India, was a glamorous evening with a cause. So on that note, Here’s to celebrating the change makers, cheering for the Asian brands, professionals and entrepreneurs who are creating lasting impacts in their fields, shaping a multiplicity of sectors, inspiring communities and that too all over the world! May we always continue to Aspire-to be more, to do more, to create more..
Good vibes to all... Richa Grover CEO and Executive Editor, Aspire, London October 2023

A New York Times Bestseller. This book is a powerful and intimate memoir by Indra Nooyi, the trailblazing former CEO of PepsiCo. For more than a dozen years as one of the world's most admired CEOs, Indra Nooyi redefined what it means to be an exceptional leader.
T
he first woman, person of color, and immigrant to run a Fortune 50 company - and one of the foremost strategic thinkers of our time - Nooyi transformed PepsiCo with a unique vision, a vigorous pursuit of excellence, and a deep sense of purpose. Now, in this rich memoir

brimming with grace, grit, and good humor, My Life in Full is a firsthand view of a legendary career and the sacrifices it so often demanded. In her book, Nooyi shares the events that shaped her - from her childhood in 1960s India, to the Yale School of Management, to her rise as a consultant and corporate strategist who soon ascended into the most senior executive ranks. Nooyi built a home with her husband - also a high-powered executive - two daughters, and members of her extended family. My Life

in Full includes her unvarnished take on the competing pressures on her attention and time, and what she learned along the way. This book, as has her personal journey, will inspire young women everywhere to believe that they, too, can climb to powerful roles without giving up on the desire for a family and children. But, as Nooyi eloquently argues, her story is not a call for women to simply try harder, but is proof of the importance of organised care structures in all of our success. urgent call for business and government to prioritise the care ecosystem, from skilled care networks to zoning policy, to paid leave and flexible and predictable work hours, each so critical to unleashing the economy's full potential and helping families thrive. ASPIRE MAGAZINE'S CEO AND EXECUTIVE EDITOR RICHA GROVER IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH INDRA NOOYI:
HAVE YOU ENCOUNTERED MANY GLASS CEILINGS ALONG THE WAY TO THE TOP OF THE LADDER AND HOW HAVE YOU NAVIGATED THESE?
I may have encountered glass ceilings but I did make it to the top. There is unconscious bias against women so it’s important to be on the watch out for it, leaders of organisations have a responsibility to stop that behaviour openly and model the kind of behaviour they want to see in their teams.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MANTRA OF SUCCESS?
Few of my mantras of success have been that I’ve always put the company before me, if I promised to do something I always

delivered on it. Your true mettle is proved when you take up something tough and resolve it. I understood the politics of the company but never played politics. It’s important we think hard about time, there’s only one life to live, do what’s right for you. I believe family is everything, long after job titles are gone it’s the family that remains by your side, so cherish it.
and confidence , creativity are all very important too. It’s the creative who survive and thrive. Communication is critically important. Coaching is also important as leaders are as good as the teams they develop. Citizenship also features on my list, see how you can give back to society. Most importantly it’s all about the Compass as ethics are crucial for being a true leader.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE CONSISTENTLY RANKED AMONG THE WORLD'S 100 MOST POWERFUL WOMEN?
WHAT IS YOUR FUTURE ASPIRATION FOR YOUR BOOK?
As one of 100 most powerful women listed professionals it was important for me but I believe that you can’t let it get to your head, focus to use your position of power to do good in society has been my mantra. It’s not a tell-all book on others, it’s a memoir about how did I juggle everything. My goal has been to pay it forward always.
WHAT ARE YOUR 7 C’S OF MANAGEMENT AND LEADING WITH PURPOSE THAT ONE READS ABOUT?
My 7c’s of management are: competence, unless you are very good you don’t get noticed I feel. Curiosity, courage
THE NEW-AGE ASIAN MAGAZINE
My book aspires to create more support structures for young families in society which are not very expensive, I’m using the book to be one of the voices to advocate for these support structures as they are important to help working women balance it all. However men nor women can’t have it all. The best you can do is approach life with pragmatism and juggle multiple roles. Performance and purpose can go hand in hand, that’s the legacy I would want to leave behind for society. Generous, authoritative, and grounded in lived experience, My Life in Full is both the story of an extraordinary leader's life, and a moving tribute to the relationships that created it.

64 OLD COMPTON STREET: INCREDIBLE ITALIAN CUISINE
IN THE HEART OF SOHO, LONDON. A family run charming new restaurant dedicated to providing incredible food in a plush setting. Their set menu boasts of a variety of sensational dishes built around fresh, seasonal produce and has customers coming back on a daily basis. Their à la carte menu is a favourite with their regulars and tourists alike.
F
or the last 20 years, family-run Italian restaurant 40 Dean Street has been captivating customers, with the likes of Brad Pitt, Rupert Everett and Princess Beatrice among its legions of fans. Now this beloved Soho mainstay has a new addition to the family - 64 Old Compton Street. This latest venture by Nima Safei, himself a much-loved local legend, that opened its doors on 3rd July 2023 is just a two-minute walk away from 40. Like its famous sibling, 64 also transports diners to the heart of Italy with its thoughtfully crafted, hearty, authentic and delish dishes.
The dining room, with its dark blue hues and prized antiques, half hidden from view by a café curtain, is intimate and a little decadent, rather like Soho itself.
“40 is the urbane older brother, a soho icon, who’s been around for a while and knows where the party’s at, while 64 is the cool little sister who’s new on the scene, made a debut this summer, but intends to make her presence felt. I hope people will love them equally!” – Nima Safei, owner.
Guests are greeted with a bold red exterior design that hints at the mischief within.

Their decadent menu is divided into three sections: cold, fritti & baked; pizzas & salads and pasta, risotto & oven. A favourite amongst locals and visitors alike is their line-up of homemade pastas – think rich and indulgent pappardelle ragu and creamy spinach ravioli with ricotta truffle & mushrooms – pizzas, with mushroom & truffle a particular standout, and devilishly moreish piadina bread with Parma ham, mozzarella, rocket & pesto. This sumptuous fare is complemented by an enticing cocktail collection, featuring both in-house creations such as Refuel Martini – a beguiling blend of watermelon juice, sugar syrup and Stolichnaya – and all the classics. A concise but mighty wine list meanwhile focuses primarily on Italian vintages. The service is outstanding , the vibe is upbeat , the interiors are luxe, the food portion sizes are generous, the music sets the tone, the atmosphere is cosy and not to forget the food taste which is simply all too amazing. This restaurant is the pinnacle of charming, relaxing and classy dining in bustling soho. Highly Recommended!
