Aspire - The New Age Asian Magazine: Issue 11 - Winter Edition

Page 1

Welcome to the 11th issue of London based global Asian networking luxury lifestyle webzine

Aspire: The New Age Asian Magazine.

In this Issue… Editor's Note

DEAR ASPIRE AUDIENCE,

As we prepare this Winter Edition of Aspire, I find myself reflecting on the past few months — a period that has gently carried us from autumn into winter and from one chapter into another. This season, defined by reinvention, has offered moments of pause, perspective and renewal and with it comes a deep sense of gratitude and admiration for the journeys, people and stories that continue to shape this magazine.

Travel remains central to this issue, but not merely as a collection of destinations. There is a certain magic in the places we feature — one that extends far beyond beautiful settings or exceptional experiences. What truly brings these destinations to life are the brands behind them, their founders and owners, and the people who show up every day with warmth, passion and genuine care. From restorative countryside escapes in the Cotswolds and historic stays along England’s south coast, to Scotland’s distinctive distilling heritage and refined hospitality across London, Doha and beyond, each story reflects a commitment to authenticity, craft and thoughtful excellence.

What has been especially inspiring this season is witnessing the power of meaningful collaborations. Across hospitality, dining, wellness, beauty, lifestyle and culture, we have seen brands come together with intention — creating

experiences that are not only elevated, but deeply resonant. This season’s pages move fluidly across food and drink, beauty and grooming, mental wellbeing, spa and ritual, theatre and exhibition, celebrating both heritage and modern expression through voices and experiences that feel considered and current. From the art of everyday indulgence — whether through taste, scent or design — to objects and rituals that quietly enrich daily life, the common thread throughout is care: for people, for process and for purpose.

This issue also marks a moment of reflection for Aspire itself. Being recognised among the Power 100 at the Global Leaders Conclave held at the House of Lords was both humbling and affirming. This accolade belongs not only to me or magazine but to every contributor who pours heart and integrity into these pages, and to the brands and collaborators who have trusted us with their stories. Each has played an essential role in sustaining the joy, character and spirit that defines Aspire.

As we continue to grow, our commitment remains clear: to seek new ways to enrich the reading experience, to tell stories with depth and intention, and to evolve while staying true to the sense of wonder that first inspired this magazine. This Winter Edition reflects not just where we have been, but where we are going — shaped by curiosity, collaboration and a shared belief in meaningful storytelling.

I invite you to slow down with these pages, to discover, to reflect, and to enjoy the quieter richness of the season. Wishing you a warm, restorative winter and a year ahead filled with inspiration and possibility.

Yours truly, Richa

HYLL IN THE COTSWOLDS

This September 2025, a new jewel quietly opened its doors in the North Cotswolds. HYLL, set in Charingworth just outside the picture-perfect town of Chipping Campden, is a carefully restored 17th-century manor house reimagined as a boutique country hotel. Spread across 60 acres of meadows, woodland and view-filled hills, HYLL invites guests into a slower rhythm of life, one where time feels entirely your own.

The main house, a Grade II-listed treasure, carries the weight of history with a light, contemporary touch. Its adjoining former outbuildings — once frequented by poet T. S. Eliot — have been thoughtfully reimagined. Manchester-based design studio YOUTH has overseen the interiors, weaving English heritage into a restrained modern sensibility. Hand-finished plaster, weathered timber, Cotswold stone and aged metals create a tactile atmosphere of

quiet luxury. Each bedroom is uncluttered yet warm, with Naturalmat beds, soft linens, wellstocked pantries, and views that open directly onto the rolling countryside. Small, deliberate details reveal themselves slowly — a sculpture tucked into the garden, a handmade ceramic on the bedside — all part of HYLL’s considered aesthetic.

The name itself comes from the Old English word for “an elevated place,” an idea reflected

not only in the setting but in the mood of the house: calm, unforced, and gently lifted above the pace of everyday life.

At the heart of the property lies its restaurant, under the stewardship of chef Mark Coleman. The dining experience is elegantly simple, with menus that change with the seasons and showcase the abundance of local farms, mills and distilleries. Coleman’s approach is unfussy yet refined: letting ingredients speak while

creating dishes that are deeply comforting. The result is food that feels both rooted in place and effortlessly memorable.

Guests are encouraged to embrace the estate as though it were their own home. Days here may be spent listening to records by the fire, taking a phone-free nap after lunch, or sipping a quiet drink on the terrace while the view stretches all the way to the Malvern Hills. For those inclined to explore, the hotel grounds themselves provide meandering walks, benches hidden in hedgerows, and artful pauses with sculptures scattered across the landscape. A monthly Sunday walk followed by a communal lunch connects both locals and guests, while an ongoing partnership with Borzoi Books brings curated reading menus and intimate supper clubs with authors and artists.

HYLL’s collaborations with independent makers further enrich the experience. Guests encounter Verden toiletries, including a bespoke scent crafted just for the hotel, alongside Private White VC jackets, Grind coffee machines,

and locally made ceramics. Wellness expert Kathryn McCusker has designed in-room guided meditations, breathwork and sound bath experiences tailored to personal needs. Future seasonal events and a festive 12 Days of Christmas programme promise to expand this thoughtful calendar. In every room, a printed “Do Nothing” guide sits beside a small token of appreciation — gestures that embody the philosophy of taking things slowly, yet meaningfully.

Looking ahead, 2026 will see the addition of a new events barn designed by Tim Groom Architects. Built from local stone and timber, it will frame panoramic views of the landscape and offer a spectacular venue for weddings, performances and private gatherings. Seating up to 150, the barn promises to extend HYLL’s role as both sanctuary and stage.

Behind HYLL stands MadFabulous Hotels, founded by entrepreneurs Paul Baker and Sarah Ramsbottom. With Sarah’s two decades of expertise in event-driven hospitality and Paul’s entrepreneurial background — including

the creation of international bakery brand St Pierre Groupe — their vision combines warmth, creativity and precision. HYLL is a true expression of that ethos: a retreat where heritage, service and modern sensibility find balance. A stay at Hyll begins from £250 per night for a refined bed and breakfast experience.

ASPIRE REVIEW

Our stay at HYLL was nothing short of exceptional. The service was warm and intuitive, striking the perfect note between attentiveness and discretion. Meals were a delight — seasonal, flavourful and beautifully presented. The beds and pillows were supremely comfortable, promising deep rest, while the views over the Cotswold hills offered serenity at every glance. Hospitality here feels personal and genuine, the kind that stays with you long after departure. In every sense — from design to dining to the graciousness of the staff — HYLL delivers an experience that is quietly luxurious yet deeply memorable. It is an elevated, stylish and serene retreat in the heart of the Cotswolds. Highly Recommended.

THREE FALCONS:

CENTRAL LONDON’S FIRST INDIAN GASTROPUB WITH A POLISHED TWIST

Tucked away near the world-famous Lord’s Cricket Ground, Three Falcons has quietly established itself as a standout destination on London’s dining map. It’s not just another pub, nor simply a fine dining restaurant — it is Central London’s very first Indian gastropub, an extraordinary fusion of Indian culinary flair and the warmth of a classic British gastropub.

The atmosphere is one of polished ease. Tastefully designed interiors, plush furnishings, and attentive lighting whisper luxury without ever feeling pretentious. Softer tones and warm woods mingle with subtle Indian motifs, creating a space where you can linger over conversation, savour your meal, or simply soak in the vibe. It feels at once elevated and inviting — stylish enough for a celebration, yet comfortable enough for a casual evening with friends.

And then the menu — a true symphony of flavours, catering to both tradition-lovers and those seeking new adventures. From their famed Butter Chicken, aromatic biryanis and richly spiced daals, to more

adventurous curries and vegetarian dishes, every plate is finely crafted. Standout starters like papri chaat and indulgent creamy paneer set the tone beautifully, while sweet treats ensure a memorable finish. With options spanning mild and comforting to boldly spiced, vegetarian, vegan, or meat-forward, there is truly something for every palate.

Service here elevates the experience further. The team is attentive without being intrusive, offering menu guidance when needed and ensuring that every detail is taken care of. Whether it’s a family celebration, a corporate gathering, or a solo night out, each visit feels personalised and memorable.

Location-wise, Three Falcons is enviably placed. Just steps away from Lord’s, and within easy reach of Maida Vale, Little Venice, and the West End, it positions itself as not just a local gem but a destination worth crossing town for. It’s also the ultimate spot to enjoy live sports and matches — where great food, an electric atmosphere and the thrill of the game come together.

Three Falcons is more than a meal. It’s an atmosphere, a celebration of flavour, and a promise of superb service and ambiance. For those who appreciate excellent food, a beautiful setting, and hospitality that feels seamless, it’s not just recommended — it’s essential. Highly recommended for any occasion where only the best will do.

REWIRE YOUR HABITS, UNLOCK YOUR POTENTIAL:

CHANGE YOUR MIND, CHANGE YOUR LIFE

In today’s fast-paced world, changing habits and thought patterns may feel like an uphill battle. Many of us want to improve routines, reduce stress, or overcome unhelpful behaviours, yet may find ourselves stuck in the same patterns. One approach gaining attention is subconscious reprogramming through hypnotherapy — a professional service designed to help people explore new strategies for sustainable personal growth and long-term behavioural change.

One professional providing this service is Elle Kay, a UK based certified and accredited hypnotherapist, who works with the subconscious mind to address unhelpful habits, manage stress, and encourage constructive behaviour patterns. Rather than offering quick fixes, the process helps individuals understand the underlying drivers of their behaviour and develop practical tools to move forward.

Elle combines professional expertise with a scientific foundation. She holds a Diploma in Hypnotherapy, a Diploma in Behavioural Neuroscience, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Education. She is an accredited member of both the ACCPH (Accredited

Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists) and the Professional Hypnotherapy Practitioners Association, ensuring her work adheres to high professional standards. With over 20 years’ experience developing and delivering accredited learning programmes, she brings insight into human behaviour and learning to every session.

Sessions may be tailored to individual goals, whether the aim is breaking a habit, reducing anxiety, building confidence, or exploring personal aspirations. By addressing the subconscious mind, the process may provide a structured way to experiment with new ways of thinking and behaving in a professional and supportive setting.

Many individuals explore subconscious reprogramming as a way to support mental wellness, personal growth, and behavioural change. For those curious about ways to rewire thought patterns, manage stress, or unlock new potential, this approach may offer a structured, professional pathway to try — guided by accredited practitioners like Elle Kay.

Talking of her future aspiration, Elle Kay said, “to make Elle Kay the name people think of when they want to make changes in their lives and to grow a global community and membership.” This vision reflects her commitment to supporting personal growth and making tools for transformation accessible to a wider audience.

ANDREW JOSE SALON: LONDON’S TIMELESS HAIRDRESSING INSTITUTION

In the heart of Fitzrovia, the Andrew Jose experience blends precision hair styling with luxury and ease — a quiet interlude in the city that lingers long after you leave. Celebrating over 35 years of inspired hair styling, Andrew Jose’s Charlotte Street salon remains one of London’s most discreet destinations for transformation, artistry and timeless elegance.

On a bright, tree-lined corner of Charlotte Street sits an Edwardian gem caught in the flux between Soho and Bloomsbury — the twostorey salon of Andrew Jose, a quietly commanding presence in London’s hair world for more than three decades.

Step inside and the hum of conversation, the gentle fizz of colour mixers, and the quiet precision of scissors create a sense of calm, purposeful industry. On the ground floor, light filters through tall windows, illuminating mirrors and sleek styling stations. Descend to the lower level and you find a sanctuary: intimate, hushed, a place where transformation happens silently, beautifully.

While much of the bustle surrounds haircuts, blow-dries, colour and texture services, Andrew Jose’s is more than a salon — it is a quietly discerning boutique of style. They offer precision cutting, colouring, blow-drying, texturising, and treatments for all hair types. The team, led by Andrew himself and supported by talented creatives, works across hair types and trends with ease.

In 2023, the salon celebrated 35 years at Charlotte Street, releasing a limited-edition book of portraits that trace the stylistic journeys of clients (ages 14 to 92) who have passed through its doors. It’s a meaningful reminder: the salon’s narrative is inseparable from the lives it touches. Luxury at Andrew Jose means attention to detail: bespoke consultations, high-grade product selection, and a refined but unspoken expectation that every client leaves transformed.

Walking Charlotte Street after a session, clients might pause to glance at the salon façade, reflect on the cut or colour that’s just surfaced, and notice how their reflections catch the glow of early evening London. For many, this is not just salon time — it’s part of a personal ritual, a pause in the city, a luminous interlude that lingers well beyond the chair.

Andrew Jose’s salon is a veteran of London’s style circuit, yet it remains current, discreet and deeply personal — a haven for anyone who wants more than a haircut, but a subtle statement.

FREAK SCENE AT

100 WARDOUR STREET: A CULT PAN-ASIAN CONCEPT THRIVES IN SOHO, LONDON

Soho has been buzzing with energy since cult dining concept Freak Scene took over 100 Wardour Street in collaboration with Evolv Collection. Running through to November 2025, the residency has cemented itself as one of the city’s most talked-about dining experiences, bringing bold flavours and rock ’n’ roll spirit back to the heart of London.

Founded by Australian chef Scott Hallsworth, Freak Scene first made waves in 2017 as a rebellious take on pan-Asian dining. Hallsworth, who rose to prominence as Head Chef at Nobu London and Nobu Melbourne before launching the critically acclaimed Kurobuta, built the brand on fearless flavours and a playful, irreverent energy. With Japanese izakaya culture, Southeast Asian influences and Australian cheekiness at its core, Freak Scene has grown into a movement as much as a restaurant.

At 100 Wardour Street, the menu is a mix of cult classics and new creations. Signature dishes such as chilli crab wonton bombs, red curry duck donut buns, and miso-grilled hispi cabbage are joined by plates designed especially for the Soho setting. Saturdays bring a raucous brunch, soundtracked by hip-hop, set against graffitisplashed walls and funky artwork, making the atmosphere as lively as the food. “We’re back in Soho, and we’re doing it in a way that feels

bigger, bolder, and more unapologetic than ever,” says Hallsworth.

For Evolv Collection, the collaboration reflects the group’s fresh direction under CEO Martin Williams, whose portfolio spans everything from riverside concepts like Pont Plage to Bluebird’s expansion and exclusive members’ clubs in Chelsea and the City. “Scott’s creativity, edge, and attention to flavour have always set him apart,” he notes. “Hosting Freak Scene at 100 Wardour Street is not just exciting—it’s the start of something special.”

100 Wardour Street itself is no stranger to reinvention. Once home to the legendary Marquee Club, later Mezzo and Floridita, the venue continues to celebrate its cultural heritage as a hub of food, music, and nightlife. Unapologetic, playful, and powered by bold pan-Asian flavours, Freak Scene at 100 Wardour Street has firmly established itself as one of Soho’s standout dining experiences.

THE GEORGE IN RYE: A TIMELESS ESCAPE ON ENGLAND’S SOUTH COAST

Step through their doors and you enter a sanctuary where history, character and comfort merge with effortless style. This Grade II listed treasure, originally built in 1575 and reimagined for the modern traveller, sits proudly on Rye’s cobbled High Street, at the heart of one of England’s most captivating medieval towns. Today it operates as a hotel with historic pub charm, where a cosy bar and refined dining complement its sumptuous rooms.

What was once a 16th century coaching inn has been thoughtfully transformed into a luxurious retreat, blending the romance of its storied past with contemporary elegance. From its Georgian ballroom and Elizabethan beams to its original fireplaces and Regency additions, every corner of The George whispers history while embracing a distinctly individual design. Over the centuries it has played host to royalty, dignitaries, artists and movie stars, and today continues to welcome guests with the same sense of theatre and warmth.

Inside, eclectic interiors bring together antique furniture, bespoke pieces, abstract artworks and a playful sense of drama. The result is neither stiff nor formal; instead, it is relaxed and inviting, with the intimacy of a boutique hideaway and the conviviality of a great British inn. From the charcoal-fired George Grill to the cosy Dragon Bar, to private dining in the Long Room, food and drink are central to the experience. The menus showcase the best of local produce and seasonal flavours—whether indulging in refined dining or enjoying

something more informal. Lunch is served daily from 12–3pm, with dinner from 5–9pm (9.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays), ensuring guests can savour the bounty of Sussex at any time of day.

We care deeply for The George — its stories, its spirit, its people. Our aim is to honour that legacy while creating a place defined by comfort, connection and lasting elegance.

Alex and Katie Clarke, Directors of The George in Rye

The bedrooms are just as distinctive. Each one is designed with its own personality—some feature split-level rooms, others freestanding baths or shelves filled with classics—but all share a commitment to comfort, with sumptuous linens, deep mattresses and bespoke touches that make every stay memorable.

Beyond the hotel, Rye itself is a destination unlike any other. Medieval streets, Tudor façades and a storied maritime history create an atmosphere locked in time. Whether it’s a romantic weekend, a cultural escape or a seaside adventure, The George provides the perfect base.

Celebrated by The Times as one of the “100 Best Places to Stay in Britain for 2023” and named among The Sunday Times’ “Top 10 Most Romantic Hotels,” The George in Rye has rightfully earned its reputation as one of the UK’s most desirable retreats. Thoughtfully restored by its current owners in 2022, it now stands as a place where past and present meet in harmony and where every detail has been considered to offer guests an experience that is timeless, memorable and luxurious.

ANCIENT INDIA: LIVING TRADITIONS, A LANDMARK EXHIBITION AT THE BRITISH MUSEUM

The British Museum invites visitors on an extraordinary journey through time with Ancient India: Living Traditions, a landmark exhibition that illuminates the evolution of India’s sacred art. Spanning thousands of years, it traces the transformation from symbolic imagery to the human forms that define Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain devotion today.

Over 180 masterpieces—including 2,000-year-old sculptures, luminous paintings, intricate manuscripts, and delicate drawings—offer a rare glimpse into the devotional life of one of the world’s most influential civilizations. The exhibition begins with a captivating statue of Ganesha, the beloved elephant-headed god of wisdom and new beginnings. Traces of hot pink pigment on the 1,000-year-old sculpture speak to centuries of worship, while the hooded cobra rising above his shoulder reflects the ancient veneration of nature spirits, beings believed to wield both protection and peril.

Visitors follow the evolution of the Buddha from early symbolic forms to the serene human iconography known today, while depictions of Lakshmi, goddess of wealth and fortune, reveal an astonishing continuity over millennia. Ancient artistic hubs such as Mathura produced sculptures for all three religions, creating a shared visual language that spread across Asia and beyond.

The exhibition also celebrates living traditions. Multi-media films

highlight how these devotional practices continue to thrive among South Asian communities in the UK, reflecting the enduring cultural and spiritual resonance of these images. Curators collaborated with practising Buddhists, Hindus, and Jains to ensure authenticity and sustainability, influencing everything from display materials to the products available in the exhibition shop.

Sushma Jansari, Curator for South Asia, remarks, “With almost two billion followers globally, these sacred images retain profound contemporary relevance.” Nicholas Cullinan, Director of the British Museum, adds, “This exhibition is a testament to the vibrancy, resilience, and enduring influence of India’s spiritual and artistic heritage.”

Ancient India: Living Traditions is more than an exhibition—it is an encounter with history, devotion, and artistry, offering a rare window into the living legacies of India’s spiritual and cultural imagination. Experience this landmark exhibition before it closes on 17th November 2025.

SCOTLAND’S ONLY SINGLE CASK SINGLE MALT DISTILLERY: ANNANDALE DISTILLERY

Nestled in the scenic landscapes of Dumfries, Annandale Distillery is Scotland’s only single cask single malt whisky distillery, offering an experience that is as unique as the whisky it produces. Here, whisky is crafted one cask at a time, allowing each bottle to tell its own story of flavour, character, and provenance.

Founded with a mission to revive traditional Scottish whisky-making, Annandale Distillery is led by David Thomson and Teresa Church, who have combined their passion for heritage and craftsmanship to create a truly distinctive whisky destination. The distillery has become a must-visit for enthusiasts and curious visitors alike, offering a rare glimpse into the art and science of single cask maturation.

At the heart of Annandale’s offering are its

two signature expressions: Man O’Words and Man O’Sword. Man O’Words is the unpeated expression, smooth and mellow, inspired by local literary icon Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Bard. Its gentle, refined flavours make it a versatile choice for sipping neat or enjoying in classic cocktails. Man O’Sword, the peated expression, is rich and smokey, named after the Seventh Lord of Annandale and King of Scots, Robert the Bruce. Its smouldering complexity appeals to those who love bold, intense whisky profiles.

The single cask approach means that each release is limited and unique. Every cask is carefully monitored during maturation, ensuring that when it is finally bottled, it reflects the character of the cask, the grain, and the craftsmanship of the distillers. This dedication to individuality makes each tasting an exceptional journey—

no two bottles are ever exactly alike.

Visitors to Annandale Distillery can immerse themselves in the full whisky-making experience. Guided tours reveal the production process from grain to glass, while tastings allow guests to appreciate the nuances of single cask Scotch whisky firsthand. After the tour, the Maltings Coffee Shop offers a perfect setting to relax and savour the flavours while taking in the distillery’s charming surroundings.

Annandale Distillery exemplifies the marriage of tradition and innovation. Its dedication to single cask production, combined with a commitment to quality and storytelling, ensures that every bottle is a celebration of Scottish heritage. For whisky lovers, history enthusiasts, and curious travellers, Annandale offers more than just whisky—it offers a memorable journey into the heart of Scotland’s craft.

MICHELIN-LISTED DINING AT 1610 AT THE GLOBE INN, DUMFRIES

In the heart of Dumfries, The Globe Inn stands as a living tribute to Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. Established in 1610, this historic inn was a favourite haunt of Burns himself, and today it preserves that connection with charm and authenticity, offering a unique blend of history, hospitality, and fine dining.

Since 2018, The Globe has been under the stewardship of David Thomson and Teresa Church, not only owners of Annandale Distillery but also custodians of the Henry Savings Bank Museum and MMR Research. They first restored Annandale Distillery before turning their attention to The Globe, where their vision has been to preserve the Burns Rooms while creating a vibrant, commercially sustainable destination that honours Scotland’s cultural and culinary heritage.

Extensive restorations have retained the historic character of the building, with warm interiors balancing period features with contemporary comfort. Every corner,

from the cosy Snug to the elegant dining rooms, reflects thoughtful design and a welcoming atmosphere.

By the late 1700s, The Globe Inn was famously known as the “favourite howff” (meeting place / public house) of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. Today, visitors can still experience this connection in the Burns Rooms, which house rare artefacts, poetic inscriptions etched by Burns himself, and original stained-glass windows that pay homage to his poem Tam O’Shanter.

At the heart of this historic inn is 1610, the Michelin-listed restaurant inside The Globe. The kitchen here is headed solely by Head

Chef Fraser Cameron, whose reputation is fast rising on the Scottish culinary stage. In 2025, Fraser won the inaugural Legacy Scholarship at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards, which includes a five-day stage at The Ritz under Executive Chef John Williams MBE. He is also a Roux Scholarship finalist and a two-time Scottish Young Chef of the Year.

Fraser’s approach centres on multi-sensory seasonal cuisine, shaped daily by what is ready to harvest from 1610’s Kitchen Garden at the nearby Comlongon Estate. Step through the doors of The Globe Inn and you’ll be walking in the same footsteps as Robert Burns. The same rooms where Scotland’s

beloved poet once drank whisky and wrote his poetry now come alive with a different kind of creativity, straight from Fraser Cameron’s kitchen. This ingredient-led philosophy means every visit offers a new experience, with dishes evolving according to the rhythm of the land.

Fraser explains: “The Kitchen Garden really shapes our menu. If the beetroot or cauliflower’s ready, then that’s what we’re working with. It keeps things fresh and interesting.”

Jonathan Brett, Head of Cuisine across the wider operation, highlights the process behind new menus: “Each menu takes a lot of creativity and time. It often starts with an idea from a seasonal ingredient or technique, then weeks of refinement until flavours and presentation are perfected. It’s a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated team.”

Such innovation has not gone unnoticed. 1610 at The Globe Inn was named Dumfries & Galloway Restaurant of the Year, crowned VisitScotland’s Best Eating Experience in Scotland 2024, and awarded a 2025 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award, placing it among the top 10% of restaurants worldwide.

Beyond the dining room, The Globe’s snug bar offers elevated bar snacks, an inventive cocktail programme, and one of the UK’s largest collections of single cask single malt whiskies, including expressions from nearby Annandale Distillery. THE RITUAL OF STEAM: LONDON’S AUTHENTIC RUSSIAN SPA EXPERIENCE

Tucked away in Hoxton, Banya No.1 offers Londoners a unique chance to escape the city’s fast pace and immerse themselves in centuries-old Russian wellness traditions. For more than a decade, this sanctuary has quietly become a favourite among celebrities, athletes, and creatives, from Kate Moss to Justin Bieber — drawn by its authenticity and transformative results.

Banya No.1 isn’t your average sauna. Operating at lower temperatures with high humidity, it delivers a gentler, deeply rejuvenating heat that relaxes both body and mind. Guests can enjoy up to three hours of thermal indulgence in the public Banya, or opt for the exclusive Taiga private cabin, built from rare Arctic Pine Kelo wood, combining private steam facilities, cold exposure, massage and treatment rooms, dining, and a

lounge for intimate or celebratory occasions.

The star of the experience is Parenie — a traditional steam massage performed with leafy venik bundles from birch, oak, and eucalyptus. This meditative ritual stimulates circulation, supports the lymphatic system, detoxifies the body, and releases both physical tension and emotional stress. Paired with contrast therapy — cycles of hot steam followed by icy plunges — it promotes muscle recovery, immune strength, and a euphoric sense of wellbeing.

Beyond the thermal rituals, Banya No.1 offers a holistic journey for body and mind: herbal infusions in the steam rooms, detoxifying teas, and an authentic Eastern European menu of broths, pickled vegetables, salads, and fermented drinks. Guests are encouraged to slow down, sip tea, or gather in communal

sessions that reflect the social spirit of traditional Russian bathhouses.

Tailored packages cater to every wellness goal, from short restorative rituals to immersive three-hour experiences. The indulgent Gold Package combines parenie, exfoliation, mud masks, and deep tissue massage, leaving guests glowing inside and out.

At Banya No.1, every leaf, every scent, and every ritual is intentional. More than a spa, it is a sanctuary where tradition meets luxury, where city stress melts away, and where the art of holistic restoration is celebrated in every detail. Each visit is a fully immersive Eastern European experience, engaging the senses and inviting mindfulness, grounding, and a rare sense of harmony — a modern reinterpretation of centuries-old wellness that lingers long after the session ends.

RADIANCE REDEFINED:

LONDON’S TAKE ON THE KOREAN GLASS SKIN PEEL EXPERIENCE

In the realm of skin wellness, London’s Dr Leah Cosmetic Skin Clinics bring to life a Korean-inspired ethos that has defined the modern “glass skin” trend. At the heart of this ambition lies the Glass Skin Peel — a 45-minute, clinically led treatment that fuses the precision of medical aesthetics with the balance of the skin’s microbiome. Rooted in the K-beauty tradition of luminous, dewy skin, the Glass Skin Peel goes well beyond superficial exfoliation. A tailored blend of exfoliating acids works alongside a Multibiotic Restoring Complex to encourage cell turnover, soften fine lines, and — crucially — restore the skin’s beneficial bacteria. The result is skin that feels resilient, healthy, and subtly radiant from the very first session.

The experience begins with careful pre-peel preparation: a degreasing solution gently removes excess oils and impurities, ensuring even acid application and minimising sensitivity. Once the skin is prepped, the peel is fully customised. Hydra Soothing delivers hydration for sensitive or eczemaprone skin, Ultra Illuminating brightens dull complexions, Advanced Lightening targets pigmentation and scars, Pore Polishing refines texture and oiliness, and Age Smoothing softens fine lines for a youthful glow. Immediately after the peel, a nourishing multivitamin concentrate restores pH balance and infuses essential nutrients. The final, signature step is the Multibiotic Restoring Complex, reintroducing beneficial bacteria to rebalance the skin’s ecosystem, fortifying its natural defences and ensuring long-lasting hydration and resilience.

Founded by Dr Leah Totton in partnership with Lord Alan Sugar, Dr Leah Cosmetic Skin Clinics operate from award-winning locations

I created Dr Leah Clinics to provide a safe, medical environment where patients can access doctor-led aesthetic treatments that combine clinical excellence with accessibility. My ambition is for the Dr Leah brand to continue leading the way in raising standards across the medical aesthetics industry, while offering subtle treatments and expert designed facials that empower patients to feel the best version of themselves.

in London (Moorgate and Baker Street) and Essex (Loughton). The clinics are medical-grade and doctor-led, emphasising patient safety and natural-looking results. Their services are regulated, and the Baker Street flagship clinic has been rated “Good” by the Care Quality Commission, as has their Loughton clinic. For those seeking a subtle transformation that marries luxury with clinical integrity, the Glass Skin Peel offers an elegant, efficient route to healthier, glowing skin — all in just 45 minutes.

In London’s bustling cosmetic scene, Dr Leah Clinics bring the coveted Korean “glass skin” phenomenon to life, blending innovation with clinical precision. The Glass Skin Peel is a masterclass in luminous skin, offering a subtle yet transformative experience that leaves the complexion radiant, hydrated, and effortlessly refined. Celebrated in K-beauty circles for its ultra-dewy, almost translucent finish, it transcends conventional chemical peels. Highly recommended!

This curated selection celebrates craftsmanship rooted in tradition, showcasing whiskies shaped by wood, climate and the guiding hand of the distiller. Together, these expressions capture the evolving spirit of single malt whisky, where heritage meets innovation. Whether coastal, cask-led or elegantly expressive, each bottle offers a distinctive moment worth savouring.

OUR EDITOR’S PICKS BELOW SHOWCASE A CAREFULLY CHOSEN SELECTION OF THIS SEASON’S STANDOUT SINGLE MALTS.

WOLFCRAIG DISTILLERS: THE ART OF MASTER BLENDING, PERFECTED

Based in Bearsden, Glasgow, Wolfcraig Distillers is a modern independent bottler with a deeply traditional soul. At its heart lies an exceptional partnership: legendary whisky connoisseur Richard Paterson OBE and esteemed Master Blender Ian Macmillan, whose combined expertise spans more than a century of Scotch whisky craftsmanship. Together, they are redefining the art of blending, creating premium Scotch whiskies that honour heritage while embracing contemporary refinement.

Wolfcraig’s philosophy is rooted in patience, precision and provenance. Every release is guided by an uncompromising approach to cask selection and balance, with the aim of showcasing Scotland’s diverse whisky regions through expertly layered blends. The brand’s acclaimed Triple Sherry Cask Finish collection exemplifies this ethos, highlighting the transformative power of sherry-seasoned wood sourced directly from the famed bodegas of Jerez de la Frontera in Spain.

The latest expression, the 14-Year-Old Deluxe Blend Second Edition, is a compelling illustration of Wolfcraig’s craft. Bottled at 46.1% ABV and featuring a notably high 50% malt to grain ratio, the whisky draws from all five Scotch whisky regions. Amontillado, Pedro Ximénez and Muscatel

sherry casks—each seasoned for 15 years—impart indulgent layers of caramel, dried fruits, chocolate and Madagascan vanilla, resulting in a rich, mahogany-hued spirit of remarkable depth and elegance.

On the nose, soft chewy caramel, sultanas and almonds give way to bitter chocolate, marzipan and Seville marmalade. The palate unfolds with frangipane, vanilla pod, prune syrup and hints of XO Cognac, before finishing long and luxuriously with sun-kissed raisins and figs.

Many of the component whiskies come from distilleries with which Paterson and Macmillan share personal and professional histories, lending each blend an added layer of authenticity and storytelling. With a clear focus on quality over quantity, Wolfcraig Distillers continues to captivate discerning whisky lovers worldwide, offering blends that celebrate balance, complexity and the timeless mastery of Scotch whisky blending.

THE GLENTURRET: TIME, CRAFT AND THE BEAUTY OF WOOD

Widely regarded as Scotland’s oldest working distillery, The Glenturret stands as a quiet yet powerful symbol of patience, provenance and traditional whisky-making. Nestled in the heart of Perthshire, the distillery has long been revered by connoisseurs for its commitment to small-scale production, hands-on craftsmanship and an unwavering respect for time as the ultimate ingredient.

At the core of The Glenturret’s philosophy is a belief that maturation is not merely a process, but a partnership—between spirit, wood and years of careful stewardship. This ethos is beautifully expressed in The Glenturret 15 Years Old, a standout release within the distillery’s 2025 Core Collection and a favourite among discerning whisky lovers.

The 15 Years Old celebrates the harmonious dialogue between European and American oak. Extended maturation in European oak casks brings depth and structure, enriching the whisky with layers of decadent fruitcake, dried fruits and warming spice. This robust character is elegantly balanced by the influence of American oak, which contributes softer notes of honey, vanilla and gentle sweetness, creating a whisky of both richness and poise.

On the nose, the whisky reveals a welcoming complexity, where sweet oak, orchard fruits and subtle spice intertwine. The palate is generous and composed, delivering a refined balance of baked fruits, mellow spice and creamy vanilla tones. The finish is long, warming and quietly confident, leaving a lasting impression that speaks to the distillery’s mastery of wood management and maturation.

Priced at £165 RRP, The Glenturret 15 Years Old represents a moment in time captured in glass—an expression shaped by patience rather than haste. It is a whisky that rewards contemplation, offering depth without excess and elegance without artifice.

With its renewed focus on authenticity, craftsmanship and mature flavour profiles, The Glenturret continues to reaffirm its place among Scotland’s most respected distilleries, producing whiskies that honour the past while remaining deeply relevant to today’s luxury whisky landscape.

OLD PULTENEY: A MARITIME MALT SHAPED BY THE SEA

Distilled on the rugged north-eastern coast of Scotland in the historic harbour town of Wick, Old Pulteney is a single malt Scotch whisky whose identity is inseparable from the sea. Crafted at Pulteney Distillery and matured beside the North Sea, each expression carries a distinctive coastal character shaped by brisk sea air, maritime climate and generations of whisky-making tradition.

At the heart of the range lies Old Pulteney 12 Years Old, the definitive expression of the house style and an ideal introduction to this storied coastal malt. Matured entirely in air-dried, hand-selected ex-bourbon casks, the whisky balances sweetness and salinity with effortless precision, earning its reputation as an “unashamedly excellent” classic.

Time spent maturing by the sea plays a crucial role in defining Old Pulteney’s character. Traditional warehouses sit exposed to invigorating coastal winds, allowing casks to breathe in the salty North Sea air year after year. This unique environment imparts subtle briny notes and gentle coastal chords that distinguish Old Pulteney from inland malts, capturing the essence of its maritime home in every drop.

In the glass, Old Pulteney 12 Years Old gleams deep amber and red-gold hues with elegance.

BARREL

BLUSH SINGLE MALT: WHERE AMERICAN OAK MEETS AUSTRALIAN SHIRAZ

Barrel Blush is an extraordinary single malt whisky born in India, crafted for those who seek depth, elegance and discovery. Matured first in the heart of American bourbon barrels, it develops a bold, confident foundation shaped by vanilla, caramel and gentle oak. Its story deepens with a final flourish in Australian Shiraz wine casks, where fruit, spice and colour come vividly alive.

This luxurious expression is more than a whisky; it is a moment of pure indulgence that lingers long after the last sip. The meeting of two worlds—American oak and Australian wine wood—creates a harmonious symphony of ripe berries, warming spice and soft sweetness, elevating the signature aromatic character of the Rampur core spirit.

On the nose, tropical fruits, floral notes and smooth malt are layered with delicate vanilla, rich toffee, dried dark fruits and subtle spice. The palate is elegant and full-bodied, revealing sweet fruit and spice in graceful balance. The finish is long, generous and memorable, completing a sensorial journey defined by passion, tradition and innovation. Each sip celebrates craftsmanship, imagination and the confident evolution of Indian single malt whisky on the global stage with remarkable depth today.
