En route to New Hampshire
With the Hybrid event less than 2 months away, it's that time of the year again. The hybrid prototype will be leaving Chennai port in the first week of March and arriving at New York by the 18th of April. Backed with extensive testing and improved power train system, the RZ- X9H is all set to shatter our previous accolades at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The team is confident and all set to take the bull by the horns.

Testing - Non stop
After an exemplary performance at Formula Bharat, earlier this race season, the RZ-X8C is currently under rigorous testing for the next four months. The testing includes incorporating changes in the current prototype so as to outperform the participating teams, in FS Italy 2018. One of the major changes brought about was that the engine mounts were redesigned : Previously, flexing of engine mounts caused dynamic slack in the chain, resulting in the chain hitting the engine mount. The changed mounts would help the car complete the Endurance event, effortlessly. Testing on the suspension was done as well; changes have been made in the anti roll bar set up, to control understeer and oversteer effectively. The car faced overheating issues, earlier this race season. To overcome this technical snag, experiments have been conducted on the cooling circuit, to ensure that the engine maintains a constant temperature of 85 degrees. This is done by calculating the mass flow rate which would in turn help us arrive at the appropriate heat transfer rate. Fixtures were also manufactured, for adjusting toe and camber plates were manufactured to enable measuremnt of the toe and camber of the car, making way for an enhanced car setup through the event. A brake pressure sensor was installed, to ensure that the brake system is bled properly and to validate the braking system design. On an average, the car has run for 240 kms over the last three months to ensure that we face no other technical snags at the Italy event.

Amidst the buzz of deadlines and tasks, the team had an open day at the workshop, where in Ashwa Racing members of all the four years were allowed to drive the cars around the college to embrace and truly feel the formula student experience. Shoulder to shoulder with all the others, were none other than the women of Ashwa Racing, who have set themselves apart as the cornerstones of the team, with their enviable work ethic and never-say-die approach, standing proud, as testimonials to the fact that any and every pursuit transcends the boundaries of gender. The Team had a great time and cheered maybe just a little louder in support of the wonderful girls as they grabbed this opportunity and drove the car fearlessly and with an intense amount of passion. Ashwa Racing did by no means miss out to flaunt this event in its appreciation post for women's day on social media, which followed soon after in the month. The team looks forward to having more such enthusiastic & passionate women enter the field of student motorsports.

Vamsi Naramsetty
was a part of the core Brakes and Logistics team of Ashwa Racing from 2012 to 2016. His 4 years at Ashwa Racing are a story of enthusiasm and dedication. He worked on both the RZ-X5H and RZ-X6C prototypes. Vamsi has always been looked up to, for advice by his juniors and teammates alike. He has been one of the go to persons for the current Brakes and Logistics teams when they need suggestions. During his tenure, he was known for keeping calm in challenging situations. He has worked tirelessly for the benefit of Ashwa Racing. His ability to come up with quick and inventive solutions hasn't gone unnoticed by the team. His focus of work was on the Brakes Subsystem on the car. He was also appointed as the mentor for the Subsystem post his tenure, owing to his immense technical expertise. Even after graduating from college and completion of the project he has been in regular touch with the team and juniors. He meets the team often, in order to check their progress and that of the project as a whole. He is currently working as a Design Engineer for Continental India, a testament to his brilliant technical know how. Despite being occupied by work at Continental, he has kept himself associated with the team and Formula Student competitions. He was also a volunteer for Formula Bharat 2017. Vamsi is as spirited as they come. He has been an irreplaceable asset to the team and he will continue to be one, through his selfless contribution.
