THE INDEPENDENT VOICE OF MID CANTERBURY
Our new national champ BY JONATHAN LEASK

It was mission accomplished for superbike racer Bailie Perriton at the weekend as he claimed the national 250cc production class title at the final round of the New Zealand Superbike Championships at Manfeild at the weekend. He only needed to win the first of five races to secure the title in what has been a stellar series from the Ashburton 16-year-old. Perriton qualified for pole position and set new lap records at all four race venues, taking eight chequered flags from the 14 races and finishing second in the other six on his way to claiming the title. He isn’t finished, in fact he has only just begun as he aims to become a dual champion this year. Perriton recently headed across the Tasman to compete at the first of six rounds in the Australian FX Superbikes Championships at Wakefield Park, near Sydney, on a 300cc where he finished third in each of the Australian championship outings to be third overall. He is now hoping his first stint in the Australian circuit is as successful with his next round in May at Mallala, north of Adelaide.
