The mission of the Anne Springs Close Greenway is to connect people to nature through recreational and educational activities while fostering a passion for environmental conservation, animal habitat and natural resources.
FIEL D TR I P S The Greenway is thrilled to offer a wide variety of field trips for all grade levels. Field trips are hands-on, interactive and meet curriculum standards for each grade. All grades have the option of taking a field trip to the Greenway or having us bring the Greenway to you through our outreach programs. We hope our field trips can provide a well-rounded supplement to your students’ education.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TRANSPORTATION? Transportation to and from the Anne Springs Close Greenway is the responsibility of the school.
WHAT IF OUR GROUP IS RUNNING LATE? If you believe your group will arrive after your scheduled start time, please contact your Greenway point of contact as soon as possible. While we will do our best to accommodate your visit, we may not be able to make up for instructional time lost due to late arrival.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER? Field trips are conducted rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, our staff will contact you to discuss alternate plans.
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT DURING A TWO- OR THREE-HOUR FIELD TRIP?
Two- and three-hour field trips typically include four activity rotations, one of which is usually a guided hike. Rotation lengths may vary depending on your group’s arrival time.
WHAT IS AN OUTREACH PROGRAM? Outreach Programs bring the Greenway experience to your school. Greenway Facilitators travel to your campus and provide programming in a classroom or gym. Program length varies depending on the specific outreach program selected.
SHOULD STUDENTS AND CHAPERONES WEAR NAME TAGS?
Providing name tags for students, teachers and chaperones is very helpful and makes check-in and group management easier.
WHAT SHOULD PARTICIPANTS WEAR AND BRING? We recommend that all participants: • Wear closed-toe shoes • Bring a reusable water bottle • Dress appropriately for the weather, as field trip activities take place outdoors
CAN PARTICIPANTS BRING THEIR OWN LUNCH?
Yes. We suggest packing lunches in easy-tocarry containers, such as coolers with wheels.
ARE WAIVERS REQUIRED? Yes. Waivers for all students, teachers and chaperones are required before participating. English and Spanish versions are included with your confirmation email. Please have all waivers completed and signed before your visit. We will collect them upon arrival. Providing a class roster is also appreciated, as it helps us verify that we have a waiver for every participant.
CAN WE STAY AFTER OUR FIELD TRIP? Absolutely! Schools are welcome to remain on Greenway property after their scheduled field trip to enjoy a hike, have a picnic lunch or explore the 2,100 acres of green space.

Come on a hike to explore the Greenway by using your five senses in nature. How rough is the tree, how does the plant smell and what can you hear when you are silent in the woods? What better way to experience season changing than looking at the many-colored leaves on different types of trees on the Greenway? Students will learn about the process of color change and identify leaves by shape and unique features. We will also gather a variety of leaves to make a craft. RADICAL REPTILES & NATURE YOGA
PINECONE BIRD FEEDERS
Come meet some of our resident Greenway reptiles as they help us learn about their characteristics, behaviors and habitats. Then we will focus our minds and energy while learning some yoga poses to help calm our minds, increase flexibility and have fun. Explore Fall on the Greenway while looking for signs of how nature changes with the season. We will look for habitat and food choice changes while we hike to find the perfect pinecone to make a bird feeder to take home. ECO-EXPLORER HIKE & S’MORES

Learn how to help take care of the Greenway on this hike around one of our lakes. Students will help identify what should be found on the Greenway and what is trash. They will also help think of ways they can help take care of the environment. While on their hike, they will stop to make a tasty s’more treat. COOKIES WITH MRS. CLAUS
LIFE CYCLES
Enjoy the wonders of the season with story time and cookies with Mrs. Claus. There will also be fun seasonal crafts to make, songs to sing and games to play. Through various hands-on activities, we will look at the life cycles and habitats of some woodland creatures found here on the Greenway. Students will observe decaying logs and interact with the things we find living there. SQUIRMY WORMIES This field trip favorite amongst students allows them to examine and eat a gummy worm and then they are given a chance to get up close and personal with a live worm. We will explore what they eat, how they move and where they live. We will even go hiking to dig up a few out in nature and then return them to their home. GARDEN IN A BAG The Greenway is home to the wonderful Plant-A-Row for the Hungry (PAR) Garden which donates all the food they grow back to the community. Students get to see what plants are growing, which ones are getting ready to be planted and even taste a few fresh picked vegetables. They will plant a seed to take home in a bag so they can watch it sprout and grow before they can plant it in the ground. OUTREACH PROGRAMS Outreach Programs are an hour and a half. A Greenway facilitator will come to your school to program in a classroom or gym.
BRINGING NATURE INTO THE CLASSROOM Through this interactive outreach program, children will learn to understand the love of nature that will help inspire them to see their environment and surroundings as bursting with opportunities for growth and connection. By bringing nature into the classroom, students will have the opportunity throughout the year to care for items they plant and share their progress as they continue to visit the Greenway on follow-up trips. Join us for four science rotations focused on hands-on exploration of matter and materials. Explore the basics of kayaking—safety, paddling and maneuvering—on a guided lake adventure! This fun, confidence-building program fosters teamwork and a love for the outdoors in a safe, memorable setting.
Learn the basics of fishing—casting, baiting and safe equipment use—while enjoying the calm of the water and the thrill of catch-and-release. This relaxing, hands-on experience builds patience and connects students with nature through a lifelong outdoor skill. Build teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills through a mix of active, outdoor challenges that include on-the-ground teambuilding and a low ropes course! Students will collaborate on hands-on tasks that boost communication, confidence and connection—while having fun together outside. Get ready for an exciting outdoor scavenger hunt where students solve clues and complete challenges. This fast-paced program promotes teamwork, critical thinking and friendly competition—all while having fun outdoors!
Ignite your curiosity! Students will learn fire safety and practice starting small fires with flint and steel under staff supervision. The program ends with a tasty reward—making and enjoying s’mores by the fire!
Looking for a day full of adventure? Our Field Day lets your group rotate through archery, kayaking, creek hikes, teambuilding and more—all in one fun-packed day. Build teamwork, confidence and a love for the outdoors while we handle the schedule! Build teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills through active, cooperative challenges! Discover the amazing world of reptiles! Learn about these unique animals before meeting the Greenway’s reptile ambassadors up close. Then, explore the trails on a hike to search for reptiles in their natural habitat. Participants will have the opportunity to touch reptiles during the program, and hand sanitizer will be available afterwards. Discover the wonders of the creek! Hike to the water’s edge, splash through kneedeep water and search for fascinating macroinvertebrates that call the creek home. Participants must wear clothes and closed-toe shoes that can get wet.
Who’s hiding in the treetops? Explore the incredible adaptations of owls, dissect a sterilized owl pellet to investigate their diet and head out on a guided hike to spot birds throughout the Greenway. Participants will get to take their owl pellet home. Time: 1.5 hours Price: $18 per child Suggested Age Range: Kindergarten - Fourth Grade
KAYAKING
Paddle into adventure! Learn the basics of kayaking before exploring the calm waters of Lake Haigler. Discover the beauty of the Greenway from a whole new perspective. Participants must wear clothes and closed-toe shoes that can get wet.
Take aim and discover the sport of archery! Learn the basics of archery through fun, hands-on instruction while developing your skills and technique. All equipment is provided. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes.
Create your own Greenway adventure! Enjoy a self-guided visit where your group can hike the trails, have a picnic lunch, play outdoor games or simply spend time discovering nature together.
