Breaking Chains in Ratanakiri

In the remote hills of Ratanakiri, Cambodia, Mak Rina’s life felt happy and secure until her husband, a respected shaman, suddenly died. Following his passing, her home became a prison of fear, plagued by cold spots, moving shadows, and strange noises that terrified her children. Mak Rina desperately attempted to restore peace through rituals and food offerings to the spirits, but the darkness only intensified.

Seeing his family’s suffering, her son Kanang could no longer remain silent. Years earlier, he had secretly accepted Christ under the guidance of Vann Sophanna, an ASAP church planter. Kanang invited Sophanna and members of a nearby Seventh-day Adventist church to their home to pray for deliverance. As they commanded the spirits to leave in the name of Jesus, the house shook, and the air grew heavy, but the spiritual darkness was finally broken.

Wanting to know more about this powerful God, Mak Rina and Vann Sophanna studied the Bible together. Mak Rina was overjoyed to learn that she could have complete freedom from fear through faith in Christ. In thankfulness she gave her heart to Jesus and was baptized into the family of God.

Kanang’s faith has also grown, and he is studying to become a teacher so that he can share the gospel with his people!

When God Changes Dreams

Eh Kaw Moo’s journey began in a refugee camp in Thailand. “After resettling in the U.S. in 2012, I dreamed of becoming a police officer. Raised as a Buddhist, I was initially resistant to Christianity, but I began attending church with my brothers. Soon, I began my own journey of faith that has transformed my life. God has redirected my path, calling me to serve as a Pastor and to share His love with others. As I prepare to fulfill God’s calling on my life, the support from ASAP’s Judy Aitken Memorial Refugee Scholarship Fund has helped open doors for me to pursue my studies.”

The Judy Aitken Memorial Refugee Scholarship Fund, launched in 2019, has already provided 45 refugee students with $136,300 in support, made possible by your generous giving. Many graduates now serve in

Life in her small Myanmar village unraveled after her husband died. Suddenly alone with her children, May Khin Yin faced constant uncertainty. The faith she had always known brought little comfort, and desperation pushed her to take a risk: she reached out to Christians for help.

The local Seventh-day Adventist Church responded with surprising compassion. They listened, cared, and provided practical support. A few years later, flooding swept through her village, leaving families without food and shelter. Once more, because of your generosity, ASAP’s local missionaries arrived, bringing her food, comfort, and hope.

Through this love in action, an incredible transformation began. As May Khin Yin, her children, and her elderly mother studied the Bible with ASAP’s local missionaries, they learned about God’s personal love for them, and decided to give their lives to Him.

The Widow Who Found Joy

One thing puzzled Yagon: the Christians were always smiling, always singing. She couldn’t understand their joy, especially when her own life felt unbearably heavy. Yagon, a 50-year-old widow in central Myanmar, carried years of pain from an abusive marriage and the loneliness that followed her husband’s death. Later, severe rheumatoid arthritis left her weak and struggling to survive.

One blistering afternoon, she stopped beneath a tree to rest. From a nearby home, gentle singing drifted through the air, filled with peace and hope. It stirred something deep within her. If there is a next life, she thought, I wish to be a Christian.

One day, ASAP Ministries’ medical missionaries arrived in Yagon’s village. They shared God’s love in

A Child Set Free

Fifteen-year-old Wai Thura* lived in a darkness no one else could see. “I don’t want to go home,” she whispered to her teachers, “If I go home, the black one will come to me. Here at school, I see the light, but once I leave, I cannot see it anymore.”

Her small bamboo home in the jungle of Myanmar was filled with fear. One evening, ASAP teachers Zaw Min* and Htet Ye*, joined by seven students, visited Wai Thura to pray over her. Tearfully, they

tangible ways, listening, praying, and using simple remedies to alleviate her suffering. As Yagon’s pain was treated, her heart began to heal too. As she studied the Bible, she discovered the peace she had been yearning for and chose to follow Christ!

Today, Yagon worships each week with joy, and her daughter and several friends have also been baptized.

Thank you for your sacrificial giving, which is opening doors for physical and spiritual restoration in the lives of many like Yagon!

cried out, “God, nothing is too hard for You. We place Wai Thura in Your hands, please set her free from demonic oppression.” Two weeks later, school vacation began, but during this time, ASAP teachers continued to lift Wai Thura to God in prayer, interceding for her safety and peace.

When classes resumed, her teachers were amazed to see that Wai Thura had changed completely. The darkness had lifted, and the fear that had haunted her was gone. God had set her free!

Thanks to your generosity, over 8,000 children like Wai Thura have the opportunity to step out of fear into hope.

Help Spread the Stories God Is Writing

Every week, God is moving in powerful ways across Southeast Asia. Children are discovering Jesus, entire families are finding hope through local missionaries, and communities are receiving help in moments of crisis. These are stories worth celebrating and sharing. Many of your friends, who care deeply about mission work, simply don’t know what’s happening in the field.

Will you help us share the news of how God is working in one of the darkest parts of the 10-40 window? Why? Because when you share ASAP Ministries’ social media channels, you’re helping raise awareness, inspire prayer, and invite new hearts into God’s mission. Your

share might be the reason someone decides to pray for a missionary, or it might spark a desire to support a child’s education.

You’ve probably seen the familiar “Like and Share” online, but this time, I’m inviting you to share something even more meaningful in person. Included in this envelope, you’ll find five “See What God Is Doing” cards to pass along to friends, so they can be encouraged and inspired by powerful mission stories from Southeast Asia.

If you are excited to share what God is doing, you can ask for more cards by emailing office@ asapministries.org.

Could I ask you to consider even more? Would you consider arranging for an ASAP mission video to be shared in your local church for a mission feature? Would you ask your pastor if your church could host a Church Revitalization Weekend where an ASAP Ambassador could share about the importance of combined local and foreign missions? Connect with me at president@ asapministries.org for more information.

Let’s spread these stories together!
