Visions is an annual exhibition that showcases original artworks by mental healthcare recipients across Westchester County and highlights the vital connection between creative expression and emotional recovery. ABOUT THIS YEAR’S THEME "Voices Unbound," reflects the compassionate space in which these artists broke free from silence and stigma to share their lived experiences through creative expression and storytelling. THE HISTORY OF VISIONS For more than four decades, ArtsWestchester has collaborated with the Westchester County Department of Community Mental Health to offer arts programming at local mental health sites. These programs include multisession artmaking workshops led by performing, literary and visual artists on ArtsWestchester’s teaching artist roster. The Visions exhibition originated through this partnership with the goal of showcasing the artworks created during these hands-on programs in a variety of media, from watercolor and ceramics to poetry and crocheted items. During the workshops, art can provide an outlet for individuals to externalize complex emotions, trauma and stress. By transforming abstract feelings into forms of artistic expression, the creative process can help diminish the psychological weight of internal struggles and promote emotional regulation. In recent years, the exhibition has expanded to include artworks by other mental healthcare recipients from across Westchester County.
All artworks are available for purchase unless marked as “SOLD” or “NFS” (Not For Sale)—the artists will receive 100% of
the proceeds from artworks sold.
