A bilingual English–Mandarin play inspired by Arthur Miller's 1983 visit to Beijing, where he directed Death of a Salesman through translators and an interpreter. This production uses its rehearsal-room setting to explore translation, cultural exchange, and differing ideas of "success."

The world première production, directed by Elia Kazan, opened on Broadway at the Morosco Theatre on 10 February 1949, produced by Kermit Bloomgarden and Walter Fried, and is represented in the USA by United Talent Agency (Patrick Herold). The Chinese première production was translated by Ying Ruocheng and directed by Arthur Miller. Salesman in Beijing, by Arthur Miller, with photographs by Inge Morath, was published by Viking, USA, © 1984; a later edition appeared under the title Death of a Salesman in Beijing, with an introduction by Claire Conceison, published by Bloomsbury Methuen Drama in 2015, and is represented in the UK by The Wylie Agency (Sarah Chalfant).
