Hi, I’m Nate.
I’m a botanist, and this is where I work — the Plant Research Institute in the Lower River District on Earth. I’ve been here for over a decade, studying how to adapt alien plant species to Earth’s environment. And today — September 3rd, 2050
I received exciting news from the lab: I’ve been selected for a business trip to Mars!
The Areon Institute on Mars has been our research partner for years. This time, they’re having trouble cultivating Earth plants and they asked our lab to send someone over to help.
Anyway… I’m going to Mars!
In the past decade, interplanetary travel has become more popular and much easier.
Still, there are important things to prepare. Because of differences in planetary environments, we need full health checks, and take special meds to adjust our bodies temporarily.

When I arrived on Mars, I was welcomed by a local researcher holding a sign with my name on it. Her name was Celo, and she would be my main contact at the Areon Institute.
Celo had heard this was my frst time on Mars, so she started telling me everything: the culture, the weather, the way people live.
I couldn’t stop staring at how skillfully she drove the aircar. It didn’t even have wheels or a dashboard, but it moved so smoothly — like magic.
Then her tone shifted.
“There’s something you should know,” she said. The Mars lab had been trying to grow Earth plants, but something unexpected happened. Just that the situation was… hard to explain. Complicated.And urgent enough to fy me across the solar system. She didn’t say more. Just looked out the window. I could tell it wasn’t just a simple research problem.
