Symbolic of export and transference, Journeys Festival International has transformed a shipping container into an innovative project space. During the festival we will host a variety of projects and exhibitions including:

THE WELL-COME PROJECT MON 10 – SAT 15 OCTOBER MON TO FRI 10AM – 6PM SAT TO SUN 10AM – 4PM Working alongside local urban artist M-One and Portsmouth’s leading contemporary gallery Aspex, ten young artists from the local refugee and asylum seeker community will explore their creative talents in a series of arts based workshops hosted in the container.

10,000 CHILDREN… THURS 13 OCTOBER 5:15PM – 5:45PM An immersive, interactive piece of dance-theatre fusion brought to you by New Theatre Royal & Pamodzi Creative Productions. In Europe alone, 10,000 refugee children are missing. Where have they gone? Join us for an outdoor cutting edge exploration of the current refugee crisis through a unique multi-media blend of dance and physical theatre. Suitable for Ages 12+

OUR NEEDFUL THINGS WEDS 19 OCTOBER FROM 2PM There are only 3 choices; 3 decisions. What is it that you really need? Our Needful Things is an intimate 20 minute oneon-one experience that has been developed in response to crisis relief recommendations from the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organisation. Created by Vertical Exchange Performance Collective.

COMMUNITY KITE PROJECT BRONZE ROOM 11AM – 4PM For hundreds of years kites have been central to games and pursuits. Kite flying across the globe is synonymous with freedom, the outdoors, imagination and possibilities. Join expert kite makers from Community Kite Project to learn how to make your own kite based on designs from India and Afghanistan.

INTERNATIONAL KITE PROJECT ZODIAC ROOM 11AM – 4PM Using innovative digital technologies, you are invited to design and fly virtual kites over breath-taking landscapes, including Afghanistan, India and Syria. In partnership with Inspirate. Design your own kite to fly too! Visit www.internationalkiteproject.com to have a go – Save it, and fly your kite in the Zodiac Room on 15 October.

LOOK UP // NIKOS PAPADOPOULOS // PLASTICOBILISM A high impact, large scale outdoor visual arts exhibition on the exteriors of selected buildings across Portsmouth’s cityscape. setting up the figurines to be a thought-provoking and occasionally challenging comment on current refugee and asylum seeker issues. The dioramas are then photographed and posted to an international network of over 30,000 followers on the Plasticobilism fan page. Follow the map around the city and Look Up to discover Nikos’s artworks. Further works from the Plasticobilism series will be exhibited in The Container Project (pg 1) from 17 – 22 October.

In 2013, Nikos Papadopoulos was playing with his eldest son John-Marios. “We were pretending to go to bed using Playmobil – and it gave me the idea to recreate scenes not only about home life, but the whole of society,” he says.
