PHOENIX + SCOTTSDALE

For 25 years, L’Amore Italian has been a beloved fixture of Phoenix’s Italian dining scene, drawing generations of locals and visitors with its heartfelt hospitality and classic cuisine. The family-owned restaurant blends classic Italian cuisine with genuine hospitality, making it an easy choice for a special night out or a relaxed evening after a day of exploring the city.
The restaurant is best known for its authentic, family-style Italian fare that strikes a balance between comforting and elevated. Signature dishes include fresh seafood specialties such as Cioppino, Mama’s housemade meatballs, and the restaurant’s much-loved homemade lasagna. Other menu favorites include the tortellini and eggplant.
You’ll find the restaurant nestled in the mountain preserve in the Biltmore/Paradise Valley area, near the iconic Arizona Biltmore. Here, you can dine in the elegant formal dining room or opt for the more casual bar and patio, where live music from Thursday through Saturday creates a lively, vacation-worthy atmosphere.
L’Amore has not only been a staple for many of its guests since opening, but many of its staff members have also been there since the beginning, giving the restaurant an authenticity that can’t be replicated. On Feb. 25, the locale will celebrate its official 25th anniversary. Stop in to raise a glass and experience one of Phoenix’s enduring dining gems.

Last month, Tempe Boat Cruisin’ debuted a way to experience the Valley’s only major urban lake—Tempe Town Lake—through hosted, social cruises on the water.
Tempe Boat Cruisin’ features custom-designed cycle boats, which are a unique hybrid between a party bike and a boat. Each vessel can accommodate 26 passengers. That includes pedal stations for up to 12 riders, allowing guests to actively participate
by pedaling together to help power the boat’s paddle wheel. The cycle boat also features a quiet, no emissions electric propulsion system that powers the boat when the pedaling stops, meaning that if you’re having so much fun that you forget to pedal, you’ll still be moving. The cycle boat is also fully captained and crewed. Both public and private cruise experiences are available.

BY MICHELLE GLICKSMAN
Metro Phoenix may be known for its luxury resorts, championship golf courses, and awardwinning dining, but beyond the pool decks and patios lies a desert playground built for adventure. From heartpounding heights to highspeed thrills and unexpected moments of relaxation on the water, the Valley offers an impressive range of experiences for thrill-seekers and first-time adventurers alike. Whether you’re a local looking to shake up your routine or a visitor eager to see the Sonoran Desert from a new perspective, these standout adventures showcase the wilder side of Phoenix.
Crave a challenge that blends physicality with breathtaking scenery? 360 Adventures offers guided rappelling experiences in Papago Park in Phoenix that turn the desert into a vertical playground. Designed for beginners and experienced adventurers alike, these guided outings teach you how to safely descend rock faces while taking in sweeping views of rugged canyons and desert landscapes.
The experience is as empowering as it is exhilarating. Expert guides will walk you through every step, from harnessing up to mastering technique, making this adventure approachable even for first-timers.
If rappelling isn’t your thing, 360 Adventures (360-adventures.com) also offers numerous other exhilarating options, including mountain biking, canyoneering, kayaking, hiking, cycling and more.

The desert becomes a playground for adventure-seekers at Fort McDowell Adventures (fortmcdowelladventures.com), located just east of Fountain Hills on the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. Choose from trail rides, wagon rides, and UTV tours. Round up at least 10 people, and your group can even participate in a cattle drive. Fort McDowell Adventures also offers horseback riding, allowing you to slow the pace and explore the desert the way it’s been traveled for generations. And since the route is situated along the Salt River, you just might catch a glimpse of the area’s wild horses, too.

Adventure doesn’t always mean breaking a sweat. At Scorpion Bay Marina on Lake Pleasant, the Yachtuzzi hot tub boat experience (scorpionbayaz. com) puts a playful, luxurious twist on time spent on the water. You can pilot your own floating hot tub boat—yes, complete with bubbling water—across the lake, combining relaxation with a sense of novelty that you won’t find anywhere else in the Valley. The Yachtuzzi boat features temperaturecontrolled water, a built-in Bluetooth speaker, easy joystick navigation, and a capacity for up to six people.
Perfect for group outings, celebrations, or simply an unforgettable afternoon, the Yachtuzzi experience is equal parts social and scenic. Surrounded by desert hills and sparkling water, it’s a reminder that adventure in Phoenix can be just as much about creativity and fun as adrenaline.

Few experiences rival the quiet thrill of a hot air balloon ride at sunrise. Companies like Hot Air Expeditions (hotairexpeditions. com) and Rainbow Ryders (rainbowryders. com) offer early-morning launches that lift you high above the desert as the sun paints the sky in shades of pink and gold. Afternoon and sunset launches are dependent on the season.
As you float high above the Valley, the vastness of the Sonoran Desert becomes strikingly clear, dotted with mountains, neighborhoods, and winding washes. It’s an unforgettable way to see Phoenix from a new vantage point—and a favorite for special occasions and bucket-list seekers.

Phoenix’s hiking scene is legendary, and for good reason. Trails range from leisurely scenic paths to steep, demanding climbs that test endurance and reward effort with panoramic views. Camelback Mountain, Piestewa Peak, and South Mountain Park remain local favorites if you're seeking a physical challenge.
For a more technical experience, guided hiking and climbing excursions allow you to explore slot canyons, rock formations, and hidden desert features safely and responsibly.
For adrenaline that doesn’t involve dirt or elevation, Radford Racing School (radfordracingschool.com) delivers on speed. At this destination in Chandler, you can drive like a pro road racer, go drag racing, drive an FIA Formula 4 race car, and more—including a family night adventure perfect for those of all ages.
Whether it’s mastering tight turns or feeling the roar of an engine at full throttle, racing experiences tap into a different kind of adventure—one built on precision, power, and pure excitement.
For those willing to step outside of your comfort zone, there’s plenty of adventures to be had in the Valley. It’s all right here, waiting to be explored.

At Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West, the winter home and studio of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, you can tour the space and attend a variety of events. On Feb. 19, join Sunset & Sips for an evening of regional flavors from local food vendors and music that shares the sounds of the Southwest. There is also the opportunity to craft a needle-felted cactus. Soak in the desert views and enjoy the breathtaking landscape that inspired the building of Taliesin West. Formal tours of Taliesin West are not part of this evening. The event runs from 5-8 p.m and tickets are required. 12621 N. Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd., Scottsdale; franklloydwright.org

February is a great time for golf. If you’re visiting for the WM Phoenix Open (Feb. 2-8) or just enjoying this month’s great weather, try a round at one of these popular locales.
Play on the TPC Scottsdale’s The Stadium Course, the home of the largest-attended golf tournament in the world—the fan-favorite WM Phoenix Open. The PGA Tour property’s championship course was designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf, while its sister course at TPC Scottsdale, the Desert Course, was designed by Randy Heckenkemper. 17020 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale; tpc.com
Both the Pinnacle Course and Monument Course here were ranked among the “Top 10” Best Golf Courses You Can Play in Arizona by Golfweek. The two 18-hole courses, both originally designed and recently renovated by Tom Weiskopf, stretch across natural ravines and foothills near Pinnacle Peak, with giant boulders dotting the landscape. 10320 E. Dynamite Blvd., Scottsdale; troonnorthgolf.com

Both the championship North Course, a par 72, and the South Course, a par 71, were designed by Jay Morris. They both were also built into the desert foothills, which offers stunning views, including of the unique boulder formations. The South Course even features holes that go right up into the striking boulder formations.
34631 N. Tom Darlington Drive, Carefree; bouldersclub.com
At We-Ko-Pa, there are two award-winning golf courses from which to choose—the Cholla course was designed by Scott Miller and plays through shady arroyos and over desert ridges, while the Saguaro Course was designed by Coore/Crenshaw and—rare for the area—was built for walking with greens situated near to the next tees.
18200 E. WeKoPa Way, Fort McDowell; wekopa.com
This 18-hole golf course highlights the natural beauty of Arizona’s Sonoran Desert and features a variety of tees for unique play. Providing a natural rhythm and flow, the course plays to a par 71 and offers four sets of tees, ranging from 4,575 yards from the forward tees to 6,518 yards from the players' tees. 6000 E. Camelback Road, Scottsdale; thephoenician.com/golf
In 1960, Milton Coggins and company designed the front nine holes at this course in Tempe. Twenty seven years later, in 1987, Gary Panks, an Arizona native, designed the back nine. This is also Arizona’s only fully lighted 18 hole golf course and practice facility. Modern LED lighting technology delivers a similar golf experience to a daytime round. 1415 N. Mill Ave., Tempe; grassclippingsaz.com
