Unique Dining

There’s a new restaurant in the Biltmore area of Phoenix, and it’s quirky, modern, and elegant, all at once. Camello, named after its panoramic views of Camelback Mountain, is a luxurious and theatrical high-energy Mexican restaurant—there’s even a showstopping back bar designed as a deconstructed disco ball that’s an ode to Studio 54.

The restaurant is helmed by Executive Chef Julio Mata, who got his start at Phoenix’s fabled Barrio Café (now closed). He serves up classic Mexican dishes as inventive colorful shared plates, including a rotating selection of Tlayudas (Mexican pizzas made with Oaxacan crispy tortillas), a tableside Ceviche Cart, a variety of Aguachiles, Enchiladas featuring three colorful moles, Tuna Tiradito, and Camarones Roca, alongside shareable centerof-the-table entrees such as a 48 oz. Carne Asada Tomahawk Ribeye, Whole Red Snapper, and Pollo a La Paril.

While there are a variety of drinks for all, the cocktail program leans heavily into creative signature frozen creations.

The space ranges from casual lunch to elevated evening dining to late-night lounge party hours and a weekend brunch.

Way to Wagyu

Upscale Asian-inspired steakhouse Three Thirty Three added a new luxe culinary upgrade: a dedicated imported Japanese A5 Wagyu program. The new A5 Wagyu section highlights coveted cuts that include Hokkaido A5 Filet Mignon and New York Strip; a premium hot-stone experience featuring Miyazaki, Omi, or olive-fed Wagyu; and an indulgent chef’s tasting of three hand-selected A5 varieties—alongside the restaurant’s beloved American Wagyu from Snake River Farms. There’s also the Siberian Pearl A5 Wagyu, served with yuzu kosho ginger unagi and topped with fresh grated ginger and Siberian 6 caviar.

These additions complement the refined favorites, from the wood-fired creations to the sushi, that make Three Thirty Three a standout for elevated dining in the Valley.

AN ELEVATED BAR EXPERIENCE

Two longtime restauranteurs— Sheldon Knapp, founder of Phoenix City Grille (PCG), and Dennis Shaw, owner of PCG— joined forces to open intimate bar Still & Barrel, a nod to their mutual passion for fine bourbon, rare liquors, unique specialty cocktails, and a community for fine spirits enthusiasts.

“Still & Barrel is more than a bourbon bar—it is an experience. We have a collection of allocated, rare, and hard-to-find bourbon and whiskey, as well as high-end wine, scotch, Irish whiskey, Japanese whisky, tequila, mescal, and more,” says Shaw.

“We want all our guests to feel like Still & Barrel is a place where they feel comfortable ordering a classic cocktail, a great glass of wine, an exceptional rare whiskey, or one of the many Phoenix City Grille picks that we recommend.”

Located near its sister concept PCG, the destination also features bites from that restaurant, as well as a full retail bottle shop with premium, hard-to-find spirits and select wines for purchase to enjoy at home.

Something to Taco ’Bout

Soul Fire Tacos is a bold, culture-driven taco house that debuted last month in the Scottsdale Airpark. The visionary behind the locale is Dana Dumas of the popular SugarJam The Southern Kitchen.

Here, you’ll find a fusionary fast-casual dining experience packed with flavor and heart. Soulful bliss collides with Latin spice, and Southern meets Southwest, celebrating the shared roots, joy, and energy of two rich cultures. The mouthwatering selections include Beer-Battered Catfish Tacos, Short Rib Birria Tacos, Crispy Japanese Panko Shrimp, and Tequila Lime Wings. Their standout item, the Soul Roll, is a tasty combination of golden-fried mac and cheese, candied yams, and greens.

At the heart of the kitchen is Chef Johnnie Dixon, a former NFL wide receiver. Trading cleats for culinary tools, Dixon brings the same intensity, discipline, and soul to the kitchen that once defined his game, crafting bold flavors that speak to his story and stir the spirit of everyone who walks through the door. 15111 N. Drinks of All Kinds

A unique concept recently opened in Queen Creek called Switch Brews Coffee House and Taproom. The neighborhood gathering place was designed to offer just about something for everyone. Want beer? They have it. Coffee? Yes, that, too.

Switch Brews offers locally roasted coffee in a family-friendly coffee house environment. Midday, the environment switches to a taproom serving craft brews from an innovative auto pour tap wall, which has 24 iPourIt self-pour taps. The brew selection rotates weekly, highlighting favorite brews from the local community.

“It’s not just a coffee shop or a taproom—it’s an experience,” says owner Brendan Griffiths.

There’s also a menu of “small bites” that range from buffalo wings to tater tots to cupcakes, so you can slay your thirst and your appetite, too.

Dishes with fresh flvors, bright colors, and sensational seasonal ingredients

on a Plate Spring

Menus across the Valley are getting a little “spring” in their step. From seafood that eats like sunshine to salads that double as centerpieces, these dishes capture the season, one bite at a time.

STARTERS SETTING THE STANDARD

At PF Chang’s (multiple locations; pfchangs.com), the Miso Lobster Dumplings ($16.29) blend lobster and shrimp with scallions and carrots. It is all tied together with umami-rich miso butter or a chili butter swap that adds gentle heat and energy to the table. That same theme of balance carries into Fellow Osteria (1455 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale; fellowosteria.com), where the Seasonal Bruschetta ($15) layers toasted Noble Country Loaf with bleu cheese butter, whipped ricotta, ripe tomatoes, sweet balsamic, and fragrant basil. It is crisp, creamy, and inviting.

Spring vegetables step into the spotlight at Hearsay Restaurant (2501 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix; hearsay-phx.com). Case in point, the Beet Hummus & Crudité ($15), a reimagining of the classic with grilled red beets, roasted red peppers, toasted walnuts, and pomegranate molasses.

Asparagus season also inspires multiple kitchens this time of year, including at Weft & Warp Art Bar + Kitchen (6114 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale; weftandwarpaz.com), where Roasted Asparagus Sauce Gribiche ($15) leans tart and herb-forward with its capers, Dijon, cornichon, sherry vinegar, tarragon, parsley, and chopped eggs. And at Virtu Honest Craft (3701 N. Marshall Way, Scottsdale; virtuscottsdale.com), the Asparagi ($26) is a sensational pairing of the vegetable with feta, bacon candy, fried duck egg, and foie gras hollandaise.

SALADS THAT MEAN BUSINESS

This time of year, salads do more than play a supporting role; they are often the star of an al fresco afternoon.

La Zozzona (Grand Hyatt Scottsdale, 7500 E. Doubletree Ranch Road, Scottsdale; lazozzona.com) sets a sophisticated tone with its Fig & Beet Salad ($19), a celebration of figs and candystriped beets with walnuts, basil, crème fraîche, and smoked salt, while Brody’s Italian (10810 N. Tatum Blvd., Phoenix; brodysitalian.com) takes inspiration from spring along the coastal Mediterranean with its Chopped Salad ($17). It combines greens with olives, sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella, and house vinaigrette, providing a colorful canvas for optional proteins.

Similarly Mediterranean-inspired, the Caprese Salad ($23) at Luna by Giada (Caesars Republic Scottsdale, 4747 N. Goldwater Blvd., Scottsdale; lunabygiadascottsdale.com) is a showstopper, bursting with heirloom tomatoes artfully arranged atop stracciatella cheese, basil leaves, and tart balsamic pearls.

Ingo’s Tasty Food (multiple locations; ingostastyfood.com) combines comfort food with seasonal freshness with its Bistro Steak Salad ($18), offering a generous portion of sliced filet mignon with gremolata sauce, greens, pickled peppers, goat cheese, and vinaigrette.

Seafood-forward salads also find their moment this season. On the Rocks at Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes (2000 W. Westcourt Way, Tempe; marriott.com/phxtm) boasts a Seared Ahi Tuna Salad ($24) built with mixed greens, egg, roasted peppers, tomatoes, cucumber noodles, and sherry mustard vinaigrette, offering the perfect hit of acid and structure in every bite.

For a more plant-forward approach, Thirsty Lion Gastropub & Grill (multiple locations; thirstylionrestaurant.com) delivers its Garden Power Bowl ($13.29) with quinoa and brown rice alongside shaved Brussels sprouts, edamame, garbanzo beans, avocado, and lemon basil vinaigrette.

STRAIGHT FROM THE SEA

While creamy lobster bisque and butter-drenched branzino dominate winter menus, spring seafood takes on a noticeably fresher feel.

Beet Hummus & Crudité at Heresay Restaurant

At CATCH Scottsdale (Scottsdale Fashion Square, 7014 E. Camelback Road, Scottsdale; catchrestaurants.com), the Madai Crudo ($26) features silky Japanese red snapper with pickled peach, jewel-like pomegranates, and an amarillo sauce that adds gentle heat and lift. That same sense of contrast appears at COURSE Restaurant (7366 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale; courserestaurantaz.com), where Big Eye Tuna (seasonal tasting menu) comes together with crunchy Japanese rice pearls, creamy avocado panna cotta, and lightly pickled melon in an ever-so-creatively composed plate.

This raw-seafood moment is also playing out at Flower Child (multiple locations; iamaflowerchild.com), which currently offers Yellowfin Tuna Poke ($13.50) with spicy tuna coupled with sushi rice, snap peas, cucumber salad, avocado, furikake, and yuzu ponzu. Buck & Rider (multiple locations; buckandrider. com) takes a bolder approach with its Hamachi Crudo ($19), showcasing Kagoshima yellowtail with wasabi mayo, ponzu, Thai chili sauce, pico de gallo, and daikon sprouts. And at the newly opened Camello (2525 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix; camellobiltmore.com), Tuna Tiradito ($26) mixes sashimistyle ahi with Fresno chilies, heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, and red onion, together enhancing the fish without overshadowing it.

Beyond raw preparations, seafood-loving chefs are also embracing sea bass in a big way this spring. Red, White & Brew (6740 E. McDowell Road, Mesa; rwbaz.com) features a mouthwatering pan-seared Chilean Sea Bass ($45) served on seasoned orzo with garlic-infused spinach, slow-roasted tomatoes, lemon caper butter, watermelon radish, and dill. At 40 Love (7117 E. 6th Ave., Scottsdale; 40lovegroup.com), their take on Chilean Sea Bass ($65) is also pan seared but topped with silky beurre blanc and complemented by potato pavé and crispy leeks.

COMFORT WITH A FRESH PERSPECTIVE

Even comfort-driven menus are getting a seasonal refresh. At The VIG (multiple locations; thevig.us), the Poblano Chicken Enchiladas ($22) are a celebration of spring with playful chicken tinga, Oaxaca cheese, poblano cream, roasted corn, pickled onions, cilantro, and radish.

Marcellino Ristorante (7114 E. Stetson Drive, Scottsdale; marcellinoristorante.com) looks to chef-owner Marcellino Verzino’s native Italy for inspiration with its Gamberi E Feta ($26), a grilled jumbo shrimp dish crowned with a crispy feta croquet over lemon-dressed red cabbage. Picazzo’s Healthy Italian Kitchen (multiple locations; picazzos.com) brings color and texture to the table as well with its Pesto Gnocchi ($21), coating gluten-free potato gnocchi in pistachio pesto with Italian sausage, roasted tomatoes, stracciatella, pistachios, and prosciutto.

MORNING MOMENTS AND SWEET FINISHES

Breakfast and dessert dishes are getting into the season, too. Sexy Roman (W Scottsdale, 7277 E. Camelback Road, Scottsdale; sexyroman.com) now serves fluffy Roman Pancakes ($23) layered with Bavarian cream, pistachio praline, and macerated strawberries. For morning fuel with a beachy feel, Revel Surf Bar & Grill (4503 S. Power Road, Mesa; revelsurf.com) recently debuted an Açaí Bowl ($13) with chocolate hazelnut granola, honey-berry drizzle, toasted coconut, and fresh berries.

Finally, LOVECRAFT (3128 E. Cactus Road, Phoenix; lovecraftphx. com), offers a Strawberry Spring Tart ($11), combining fresh strawberries, date-infused coconut milk, and a nutty base accented with fresh thyme, truly highlighting spring on a plate.

ATZ

and the

Cultural Reorientation of Flight

C ATTITUDE OFALTITUDE

ertain works do not enter a room quietly. They recalibrate it.

With Attitude of Altitude , ATZ proposes a rare visual thesis: that aviation is not merely engineering, but metaphor and that graffiti, once bound to the street, can be elevated into a new geography of power, access, and contemporary desire.

Commissioned for Jackson Jet and presented through American Fine Art in Old Town Scottsdale, this collection exists within an unusually precise cultural corridor: private aviation, institutional grade contemporary practice, and the increasingly sophisticated language of collectible street abstraction.

ATZ does not paint aircraft.

He destabilizes their symbolism.

The Cessna 208 becomes both icon and architecture a fuselage rendered as grid, a disciplined structure interrupted by gesture, fracture, and controlled chromatic tension. The work operates in contrasts: restraint and rupture, velocity and stillness, pattered austerity punctuated by deliberate visual insistence.

This is not graffiti aestheticized. This is graffiti recontextualized.

Historically, street art claimed visibility through saturation. ATZ moves in the opposite direction: anonymity, scarcity, and curatorial containment. The street is not the site of encounter here the sky is. The FBO becomes exhibition space. Transit becomes gallery. The work appears not in public excess, but in private precision.

And that shift is everything.

In aviation, “attitude” defines orientation pitch, roll, trajectory. In ATZ’s practice, attitude becomes psychological: ambition refined into discipline, defiance translated into form. Altitude becomes more than height; it becomes mindset, elevation, arrival.

Installed within the rarefied atmosphere of private flight, these works speak directly to a collector fluent in contemporary codes of access where the most resonant cultural objects are not the most visible, but the most strategically placed.

ATZ’s originals are released exclusively through American Fine Art, with no open-market dilution. Each piece functions not only as an aesthetic object, but as a tightly held asset: singular, intentional, and positioned for longevity rather than trend.

For serious collectors, this matters.

The current market has shown sustained appetite for works that bridge street lineage with formal rigor particularly when scarcity is protected, and placement is curated. ATZ’s practice sits comfortably within that conversation, offering entry points that remain accessible at the early stage of an artist’s upward trajectory, while carrying the

American

visual authority of far more established markets.

This is the moment before inevitability becomes pricing.

The collaboration with Jackson Jet extends the conceptual framework further: the aircraft itself becomes a moving canvas, a transnational exhibition, a work of art in motion across landscapes where graffiti has never belonged and perhaps always wanted to.

There is anticipation embedded in these paintings.

There is solitude.

There is quiet triumph.

They mirror the psychology of private travel: departure as risk, transit as reflection, arrival as control.

American Fine Art has long occupied a distinctive position in Scottsdale’s cultural ecosystem, bridging legacy and contemporary ambition. Attitude of Altitude advances that mission into a new vertical dimension where street language meets luxury infrastructure, and contemporary art meets the sky.

These works do not decorate. They assert.

They suggest that true luxury is not surface it is altitude.

Not possession but placement. Not noise but permanence.

ATZ offers a rare proposition: graffiti, elevated into the blue-chip atmosphere of flight, rendered collectible through discipline, scarcity, and vision.

Come see the show today on display at the American Fine Art gallery and the Jackson Jet FBO.
