VETERINARY CARE

Horse welfare is a priority at Southwell. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

THEOTHERSIDE has shaped well when finishing in the frame on her 4 starts since joining Scott Dixon and can return to winnings ways. The 5-y-o did well in the circumstances when runner-up here on her latest outing, so she can get her head back in front again with her yard in good form. LONGEST TRAVELLER: SHARRABANG trained by Mrs Stella Barclay, Garstang, 144 miles. RACE SUMMARY

If able to reproduce form akin to his Newmarket third on Saturday, TELL’EM NOWT will take plenty of stopping back in a lower-grade handicap. The 4-y-o is 2lb lower than for his most recent success at Newcastle in February and has won twice here, so he clearly has plenty going for him. Coast did the job well at Wolverhampton recently and will be dangerous if able to back that up, but a bigger threat may be posed by Hachert.

WATHBA STALLIONS CUP HANDICAP STAKES 0-55 Total race value £ 4000 | Owners Prize Money. 1st £2061, 2nd £966.80, 3rd £483.60, 4th £241.60, 5th £120.80, 6th £60.40

RACE SUMMARY Alghazaal comes from an in-form stable and is partnered by an in-form jockey with plenty of experience in this sphere, so could easily make an impact on his handicap debut up in trip. At the other end of the weights, Gerko De Tenelle has a chance to make the frame, and whilst Bin Al Reeh hasn’t convinced at this trip, this looks an easier assignment than previous attempts. However despite advancing years ALJAWAAHER has been a solid performer all season and rated 96 in his youth, he still retains enough ability to make his presence felt at this level.
