Royal Windsor Racecard - Monday 9th June

Page 1

WELCOME

Welcome everyone today to Royal Windsor Racecourse for another wonderful evening of Monday Night Racing. We are really excited by tonight’s racecard with large fields expected at the time of going to print, accompanied by the theme of Irish Racenight, which is always one of the highlights of the Royal Windsor calendar

Alongside the racing, we will have Irish music, in the shape of the Biblecode Sundays, who will perform near the entrance prior to the 1st race and then on the main stage after the last race, plus some fantastic Irish dancers and plenty of Guinness to keep everyone well watered. Please do stay behind for the afterparty on the Paddock Lawn if you can.

As I mentioned in last week’s programme, I am truly thrilled to announce that we are launching the first ever Royal Windsor Racing Syndicate racehorse in conjunction with Old Gold Racing The 2 year old colt, named ‘The Wicked Wolf’, was bought at the Goffs Breeze-up last month, special Royal Windsor silks have been designed and the horse will be trained at Jamie Osborne’s yard in Lambourn. If you want to see the horse up close and personal, ‘Wolfie’will be paraded around the Parade Ring about 45 minutes prior to the 1st Race this evening For only £60, you could become one of the owners of this exciting young prospect – for more details please visit https://oldgoldracing.com/horses/the-wicked-wolf

Next week is of course Royal Ascot Week, and to kick-start the week we will be hosting our regular Monday Night Racing with the theme being Best of British celebrating all things British from music to food and drink. Ahead of the racing starting, we will be hosting a Royal Ascot preview in the Riverbank with a strong panel of experts and tipsters, so if you wish to register your attendance for this event (at no extra cost), please go to our website at www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk for more information.

In the meantime, grab a Guinness or any drink of your choice and enjoy another great night’s racing at the home of Monday Night Racing!

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

LONGEST TRAVELLER: SERGEANT MAYER trained by N Tinkler, Malton, 220 miles.

SECRET HANDSHEIKH has found just one too good on each of his last two visits here, including when going close in a C&D handicap in April, and the 7-y-o may well go one better this time, provided he gets the breaks (encountered traffic problems at Chepstow last time). HK Fourteen made a positive start to the campaign here a fortnight ago and is feared most ahead of Sergeant Mayer. Dapperling would be a big player if backing up her recent Goodwood success, but she’s far from certain to do so

HORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE AT WINDSOR

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk
