Welcome everyone today to what is forecast to be another gloriously sunny evening here at Royal Windsor Racecourse for our Soul & Motown Racenight.
For those who attended last Monday’s racenight, they were fortunate to witness a racing masterclass from champion jockey Oisin Murphy, who picked up 5 winners on the night. Oisin was absent from Windsor for our first 7 race meetings of the Flat season, but after last Monday’s exploits has already leapt to the top of the Windsor Jockey Leaderboard with 8 victories under his belt.
A few days ago I was looking at the current standings for the overall Flat Jockeys Championship where Billy Loughnane holds a narrow lead of 2 winners over Oisin Murphy and Rossa Ryan is a further 6 winners back, and it got me thinking how lucky we are in horse racing whereby spectators have the opportunity to get up so close to the stars of the sport. All three jockeys mentioned above are regulars at Royal Windsor, people get to see them walking to the parade ring ahead of each race and can welcome them back to the winners enclosure from only a few yards away, which is simply not possible in most sports
Speaking of superstars, we are incredibly excited at the possibility of Constitution Hill running here at Windsor on Saturday 29th August in the Weatherby’s August Stakes, a Class 1 Listed Race. Constitution Hill forged a fantastic career over hurdles as one of the highest-rated hurdlers ever, including winning the 2023 Champion Hurdle and eight Grade 1 victories overall before changing to the Flat earlier this year It would be a real privilege if we do get to see him running here, his trainer Nicky Henderson has expressed his aim for it to happen, so we’re keeping everything firmly crossed that it comes to fruition!
Turning to today’s racenight, we are excited to welcome back the Edwin Starr Band who will be performing once again on the main stage after racing on the Paddock Lawn. Last year they were a huge hit rolling out Motown classic after classic, so no doubt there will be plenty more of the same tonight.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
