WELCOME

Monday Night Racing Finale – September 1st 2025

A warm welcome to everyone to Royal Windsor Racecourse for tonight’s Monday Night Racing Finale Here we are in September already for the penultimate raceday of the Flat season at Windsor and fingers crossed the weather is kind to us this evening as it has been for so much of the summer.

Looking at tonight’s racing, we are extremely grateful to Juddmonte, the international thoroughbred horse racing and breeding enterprise, for their support of Royal Windsor Racecourse in sponsoring Race 3 this evening, being the Juddmonte EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Class 2). We were delighted to host them here earlier in the season back in May and once again we look forward to welcoming Tom Parry from the Juddmonte team and would like to thank everyone involved at Juddmonte for their incredible support of both our racecourse and their wider support of horse racing in this country.

To make things even better, Race 3 is a particularly exciting one for everyone at the racecourse, as all being well, it will see the Royal Windsor Racing Syndicate’s first horse in partnership with Old Gold Racing, The Wicked Wolf, running its first ever race! I have spoken about Wolfie a couple of times in here recently, discussions between ourselves and Old Gold Racing started earlier this year, after which the bay colt, sired by Sergei Prokofiev, was purchased at the breeze-ups in Doncaster and has been in training with Jamie Osborne at Lambourn since late April. Jamie is very keen to manage expectations for Wolfie’s first competitive outing, but it will be fantastic to see the Royal Windsor silks in action for the first time and we wish Wolfie a safe and incident-free run.

Looking ahead to the Jumps season, which will be upon us before we know it with November 23rd kick-starting Windsor’s Winter Jumps Meetings, we have now released a £55 ticket offer to attend all 4 meetings, covering the November raceday, the New Year’s Day fixture as well as the two Berkshire Winter Million fixtures on Jan 16th & 18th. We believe this represents exceptional value for any racing enthusiast, and there promises to be fantastic racing on offer competing for sizeable prize funds

Returning to the present, thank you for attending Royal Windsor tonight and I hope you have a wonderful evening.

Jimmy Wallace

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

HORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE AT WINDSOR

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today.
