Welcome everyone to Royal Windsor Racecourse for our Ibiza Rewind Racenight, a new theme on the Windsor fixture list! It is hard to believe that June is already upon us after a busy start to the Windsor Flat season with 6 fixtures here in May (following the additional fixture from Brighton). It seems that the recent hot spell has now come to an end with temperatures at a much more manageable level so let’s hope the rain stays away today and people can really enjoy the racing and the party on the Paddock Lawn afterwards
Our music season kicked off in fantastic fashion last Saturday with the Dance Through the Decades theme featuring songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s & 00s, and we now have live music coming up on all bar one of our racedays from now until the end of August (all the themes can be seen on the back cover of this racecard). On Bank Holiday Monday last week we held our second Family Fun Day in May in hot temperatures, but those who came down were treated to some wonderful entertainment both on and off the track with virtually every race going to a photo finish! Tony Carroll’s yard seems to have hit a rich vein of form here at Windsor, as he has now opened up a lead in the trainers standings with five victories at the racecourse during May. Rob Hornby has equally been on fine form and is currently the leading jockey with four victories under his belt
Turning to today’s racing, we are delighted to welcome the National Federation of Roofing Contractors as the main sponsor of today’s racecard, and I would particularly like to thank Sean Wootten and his team for all their support. OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
