WELCOME Welcome everyone to Royal Windsor Racecourse for the start of our busiest week of the year! Tonight is our 80s Racenight, and in my humble opinion it is a decade that is unsurpassed where music is concerned, but I do accept an element of bias comes into play here considering my age! The strong music theme continues on Thursday when we hold the Madness Racenight here with the genuine band performing after racing and based on current ticket sales we are looking at a crowd in excess of 8000 on the day. We then have two further days of music festivals here on Friday and Saturday before racing returns again next Monday with our Elton John Racenight, so I want to thank all my team for their tireless effort in helping pull all these racenights and events together. Turning our attention back to today, I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our principal sponsor, Fitzdares, who are sponsoring today’s racecard and who have been so supportive of Royal Windsor Racecourse in recent years. Today sees the Fitzdares Sprint Series Final taking place, which has been running throughout the season with horses qualifying for the showcase race today in Race 4 racing for a prize purse of £80,000. OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed.
