Important Information Abandonment Policy
In the event of a race meeting being abandoned before the first race, a full refund will be made. If the meeting is abandoned after the first race but before the third, a 50% refund will be made in the same manner as a full refund. If the meeting is abandoned after the third race, no refund will be made. Customers must retain their badges, which are date stamped and numbered, in order to obtain a refund. They must be presented or sent to the Racecourse Office from two days after the meeting. Hospitality & Admission Packages are subject to charges if food has been consumed.

Premier Enclosure: Offering superb viewing, admission into the premier enclosure gives you access to all public areas of the racecourse including Brandling House and Colonel Porters. Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure: Admission to the Parade Ring and main betting hall, this enclosure has a wide variety of food outlets. BBQ’s & Picnics
BBQs are not permitted; however, you are quite welcome to bring a picnic into the designated area of the Grandstand Enclosure.
Children
In the interest of safety and security, a maximum of three children per adult can be admitted free of charge to Newcastle Racecourse. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Disabled Viewing Area
A disabled viewing area is located in front of the Parade Ring facing the 2nd horse unsaddling area. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions or require any further information.
Emergency Procedures
In the unlikely event that the racecourse has to abandon racing and evacuate buildings please read the following information for your safety. Racecourse management will only take such action if an emergency situation such as a fire or possible bomb threat and at all times decisions will be taken placing public

safety as a priority. In the event that an evacuation is necessary an announcement will be made over the public address system. Unless otherwise instructed, all customers and staff will be evacuated to the race rail clear of all buildings and cars and not allowed to access car parks or move vehicles. This is for public safety and to allow emergency services such as the fire brigade to attend as quickly as possible. In the event of the evacuation being averted or it is clear for the public to return to the public buildings a further public announcement will be made. If no instructions are given owing to failure of the public address the public should assemble as follows: a) Premier Enclosure - centre of the course via the horsegate adjacent to the parade ring. b) Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure lawn area at the east end of the enclosure. Upon discovery of a fire you should advise one of the Racecourse or Security Staff who will take the appropriate action. At all times the management and racecourse staff will endeavour to keep the public informed. Your co-operation for your safety is appreciated.
Laptops, Notebooks and Computing Devices
You are not permitted to use any device whilst on the Racecourse to communicate with anyone outside the Racecourse for the purpose of or in connection with any betting and you will be asked to remove such equipment from the racecourse.
Photography
Racegoers please note it is not permitted to take photographs on racecourses except within the areas normally open to the public. Amateur photographers must ensure that they do not intrude upon areas used by professional photographers. Flash photography is not permitted in any circumstances. Recording Racing Images & Sound You are not permitted to record either directly, or via a TV screen, any images or commentary of any racing, even if it is for personal use.
Safety and Comfort
In the interests of safety, and for the comfort of others, racegoers will not be permitted to take glasses outside the bar areas and other serving points. All drinks need to be put into plastic receptacles before exiting the bar areas. Racegoers are also reminded that they are not permitted to bring alcohol into the Racecourse. No dogs are allowed on the Racecourse or into the enclosures with the exception of guide dogs.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. Can be given little or no chance.
Official BHA Ratings Explained The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Launched by the British Horseracing Board in April 2000, RoR was awarded charitable status in Autumn 2000 and is British Horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of horses who have retired from racing. The charity: * raises funds from within the Racing Industry for the retraining and rehoming of former racehorses. * provides a safety net for ‘vulnerable’ former racehorses. * promotes the adaptability and versatility of racehorses to other equestrian activities. * runs and funds a well established programme of competitions and educational events across the country. * provides information for owners and trainers in both the Racing and Equine Industries to assist with the rehoming and retraining of their former racehorses. The ultimate goal is to maintain a balance between the number of horses leaving Racing and the number of enthusiastic, and suitable, new homes. Clearly not all racehorses go on to star in a different sphere, but RoR hopes that, on seeing what can be done, more riders will think about taking on a racehorse when they are looking for a new horse. This will help racehorse owners and trainers, equine charities, retrainers and, most importantly, the horses to find secure and knowledgeable new homes. Launched by the British Horseracing Board (now the British Horseracing Authority) in April 2000, RoR was awarded charitable status in Autumn 2000.Leading jockeys Richard Johnson and Frankie Dettori were appointed as RoR Ambassadors in April 2015. RoR has seven Trustees, of which four are appointed by the principal contributors to the fund. Two, which includes the Chairman, are appointed by the British Horseracing Authority, and there is one independent Trustee. Sir Anthony McCoy OBE became a patron of RoR in 2016 joining popular TV presenter Clare Balding OBE who has been a patron since 2014.

14yo Sire - Rock City Ridden by Laura Johnson (Dressage) Call It Out and Laura became a team seven years ago. Born right here in the North East, Laura bought him as a retrained seven-year-old. They started working on dressage and entering unaffiliated competitions as well as competing in online dressage and this is when we realised his true calling, as a dressage diva! We have affiliated with British Dressage and we are aiming to get to the championships and represent RoR! He truly is the best thing to happen to his owner Laura and she is forever grateful to her dad and sister, without them she would not have been given the opportunity to own such a perfect horse, as they support her at every competition! “Call It Out has brought me seven years of sheer happiness and I know together we will achieve of goals and dreams to show how versatile these special horses are”
Donapollo
13yo Sire -Kayf Tara Ridden by Kelly-Maire Pattinson (Showing)
Kelly-Maire had owned Donapollo since the autumn of 2020 and in that time they have taken part in RoR showing as well as other disciplines. Donapollo is proving to be really good in the show ring, picking up ribbons at all his outings so far. Donapollo and Kelly-Maire have done some show jumping, dressage and cross-county, having lots of fun in those disciplines also. “I am going to keep on competing in showing and we are hoping to get qualified for The Jockey Club RoR championship taking place at Aintree in August 2022”.
Casual Cavalier
13yo Sire -Presenting Ridden by Tristan Davidson (Dressage) Casual Cavalier first raced as a 5 year old having been bought at Doncaster sales in 2011 by his then owner and trainer John Wade. He raced 32 times over hurdles and as a chaser. Seven of these were here at Newcastle where he won in in 2017 and 2019. Helen bought Cavi in 2020 a week before lockdown shortly after his last race at Weatherby in March 2020 from then current trainer Tristan Davidson. “Cavi is enjoying life up in Hexhamshire, at home with my other two former racehorses. Lockdown restrictions have meant he could thoroughly “chill out” after a busy racing career. He has enjoyed some local hunt rides as well as developing the different muscles he needs for his new career in eventing in our outdoor arena. He has settled in very well and is a relaxed horse now. Plenty of pole work both at home and at clinics has seen him progress to cross country schooling. The next stage is to introduce him to competitive dressage in preparation for his first one day event”.
Grey Storm
10yo Sire - September Storm Ridden by Lisa Wild (Showing) Grey Storm was bred in Ireland and won his first maiden point-to-point race. So impressive was his performance he featured on the front page of the racing post point-topoint magazine. He then made his way through the performance sales at Cheltenham, with the hammer coming down with a final bid by Duncan Davidson. He went on to be trained by daughter Rose Dobbin in Northumberland, sadly without repeating his initial zest for racing. He came to Lisa’s in September 2017, a gift from Rose and Tony Dobbin. Since then, Grey Storm pretty much tried his hand at everything. Riding club competitions, dressage and most recently qualifying and taking part at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships at Aintree. “He’s currently learning to carry a side-saddle which he hasn’t batted an eye at, just another string to this wonderful horse’s bow”.
Upper Key
17yo Sire - Exceed and Excel Ridden by Tracy McCann (Dressage) Tracy had owned Upper Key for the last eleven years, they currently do British Dressage, and have made it to the National Championships at Hartpury the last two years, they are working towards Medium level over winter. They also do British Eventing, finishing in the top 10 at the Area Championships at Frickley Park last month, Cross country is Upper Key’s favourite discipline so they are hoping to get to some more events over the summer and continue their success. “I wasn’t looking for a TB, much less a former-racehorses but I fell in love with him the minute I laid eyes on him. I got him as a hobby, with no intention of competing. Soon after, I realised he loved to jump and had a great work ethic - always trying his hardest with what I asked of him, he is just an all round lovely boy, who will give anything a go and loves nothing more that a quiet cuddle and an ear rub”.
Red Cell
15yo Sire - Kheleyf Ridden by Laura Eaton (Dressage) Laura has had the pleasure of owning Red Cell (also known as Sir Red to his friends) since 2011; She bought him as a four year old retired from flat racing with no real aims. In their 11 years together they have achieved so much. They have found our place doing dressage, they are currently at British Dressage Elementary level and have competed at BD area festivals, The Jockey Club RoR National and Scottish Dressage championships, BD RoR Dressage championships up to Novice level and have been placed many times. We are aiming to keep doing this, as Red loves to go to a party with a crowd! We also enjoy a few days hunting over the winter, “Red is very well mannered in the field and we both enjoy show jumping and cross country for fun, we have even tried our hand at showing a couple of times, but neither one of us likes standing still for that long. Red is such a versatile little horse with a big heart and character and he really is my horse of a lifetime, he is great fun and is a pleasure to be around and always makes me laugh especially if he is searching out polo’s from pockets!”

HORSE WELFARE Here at Newcastle Racecourse nothing matters more to us than looking after the horses that make us the North East’s Premier Racecourse. We do everything in our power to ensure that we provide a racing surface of the highest quality and we take every conceivable care to minimise the chances of horses incurring any injury whilst here. Regrettably, as in any highly competitive sport, there are occasions when something goes wrong and horses have to be given the very best veterinary care. There are three Veterinary Surgeons here today to ensure that should any horse need help they will be attended to within seconds of any incident occurring. Their first priority is to make a rapid diagnosis and to help them do this our groundstaff team will erect screens around any horse that needs attention. Once the diagnosis is made, one of our horse ambulances will attend the scene and will transport the horse back to the stables where further treatment and assessment can be undertaken. Occasionally, it may be that the nature of the injury is such that a horse is unable to make a recovery. If this is the case the Veterinary team may take the decision to put the horse down straight away. In these circumstances we should remember that the horse’s welfare comes first and that this option is kindest for the horse.
