WELCOME

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to Ffos Las Racecourse on our annual Family Fun Day.

Firstly can I say a big thank you to 3A’s Leisure who have sponsored today, Their amazing on going support of Ffos Las Racecourse is genuinely appreciated by all the team.

We have so much going on for you to enjoy from when the gates open at 12.03 today:

Free go karts, free face painting, a funfair for all ages for only £1 a ride - we even have a Caricaturist on site offering free caricatures for you and the family to have and take home.

Our good friends at The Scarlets and Fire Brigade are both in attendance today, and on the main stage we have the amazing K Pop Superstars performing live, plus Diamond Dust kids entertainment and disco.

Not forgetting of course the excitement of seven great jumps races from 14.00 to 17.20

The main stage (placed in the marquee) timings are as follows

• 12:05 to 12:25 – Diamond Dust Childrens’ Disco and entertainment

• 12:30 to 13:15 – K Pop Superstars live on stage

• 13:20 to 14:00 – Diamond Dust Disco and kiddies fun plus K Pop Superstars will be available for photo sessions.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance. Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via emergency evacuation gates, onto the racecourse itself, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember;

• Take your belongings with you.

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area

Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a highspecification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

Tommy Williams’ Memorial Race

Today we remember the life of Tommy Williams who passed away a year ago.

Tregaron’s finest, who everyone knew and loved in the Camarthen area as the host of the New Stags Head in Carmarthen town centre.

A generous and kind hearted man who possessed a wicked sense of humour, always had a mischievous twinkle in his eye, and had the knack of making other people feel very special in his company.

Tommy loved his horse racing, and was a proud race horse owner, and it was an honour and pleasure to see his and Aled Evans’s racing colours passing the winning post in first place in the first running of this memorial race last year. He will always be in the hearts and minds of his many friends and family, he loved coming to Ffos Las, and it’s a pleasure to us to honour him today.
