Ffos Las Racecard - Monday 16th March

Page 1

Welcome to Ffos Las Racecourse.

I hope you have recovered after the excitement after Cheltenham , and what a Festival it was for Welsh Jockeys and Trainers alike. This foreword has been created before the excitement of last Fridays Gold Cup, but up until then the double successes of James Bowen and Ben Jones were a an absolute pleasure to watch. Plus there was a success for Cath Williams training Ask Brewster to victory.

Ben warmed up for the festival with a very impressive treble here at Ffos Las on our St Davids Day Raceday on March 1st kindly sponsored by 3A’s Leisure, and what a superb day that was, with bumper crowds and plenty of Welsh choirs, singers , bands and of course we all enjoyed a few tasty Welsh Cakes.

Personally , it was my first race day back after my open heart surgery, and id like to thank you all for the warm welcome Ive received coming back from Owners, Trainers, Annual Members and Racegoers alike. It was pretty special for me to be back “home”

We announced our first Ffos Las’s Local Hero in Frazer Tate on March 1st and it was lovely to see Frazer and his family enjoy a great day out at the races as our guests

Now moving on to our next race day on April 12th and I’m pleased to announce that we have some very special guests at our 3As Family Fun Race Day The world wide sensation “K Pop Superstars” will be performing live before racing on the day. Picnics are allowed , we have a large fun fair at only £1 a ride, plus free go karts, face painting and loads of children’s entertainment. This is a fantastic value for families to enjoy a great day out with up to a family of seven (Two adults and up to five children) can come for only £30

Tickets are still available on ffoslas-racecourse.co.uk

I’d like to wish all our owners and trainers good luck today and thank you for supporting our racecourse

Enjoy your day

Kevin

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Though there’s still room for improvement in the jumping department, REST IS THE BEST has improved switched to handicaps at Chepstow on her last 2 starts and is taken to get her head in front this time. The lion’s share of BOSTON JOE’s good efforts have come at this course, including 3 of his 5 career wins, and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back from his tame Chepstow effort with a bold show now returned to this track. Port Or Starboard found just one too good on his recent chase debut and should give another good account, while the in-form El Rojo Grande is also accorded plenty of respect.

GALATRONA opened her account in Irish points at the second attempt recently and there’s plenty to like in her breeding being from the family of smart hurdler/high-class chaser Kalashnikov, so she receives the vote to follow up on this switch to Rules. Port And Brandy could well build on the promise shown on her Rules debut at Warwick and is an obvious danger, along with Diamond White, who’s displayed a similar level of form
