Promos: Doncaster 2.30pm - Money back all losers as a free bet (max refund £10) Extra Place Race: 2:30pm 1/5 4 places (min 12 runners)
1:25
Barra Rua is the Irish raider for the Emmet Mullins yard who may be suited by both the better ground than she had in her last two starts and also coming back to mares’ company should help her chances. She can make the running here if needed and is one for the shortlist. Broomfield Aderra steps up in trip today. She is a Point-to-Point winner so the assumption is that she should stay the extra distance. Limerick Lass was an easy winner at long odds-on in a Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Fontwell last month. She both steps up in trip and in class but there may be more to come from her Park Princess steps up in distance to 3 miles and should appreciate the class drop back down to Listed company.
1.55
Mighty Bandit should be hard to beat here even going up again in the weights. He looked very impressive when winning last time out over course and distance. Queens Gamble returned to winning ways on heavy ground at Wincanton two weeks ago over fences. She is a talented mare, but further improvement is likely needed. Brookie is a previous course and distance winner He pulled up last time out at Ascot and will need a much-improved jumping performance to feature here. He has previously run well in Grade 1 company and can’t be discounted.
2:30
A wide-open renewal of the Grimthorpe Handicap Chase Dartmoor Pirate was an impressive winner of the Virgin Bet Great Yorkshire Chase last month and looks to have tactical pace. He goes up 5lb in the weights but the improvement he has shown in his last two runs is very noteable King’s Threshold is a proven stayer and was a nice winner of a Newbury handicap when last seen at the end of December Jasmin de Grugy fell on New Years Day at Cheltenham. He gets pieces and a tongue tie added today for the first time and might be worth another go with off the same mark of 126.
3.05
Bobbarelli makes his first start under rules as a 9-year-old for the Twiston-Davies yard He is a dual Point-to-Point winner and has had plenty of experience in that sphere. Dropematthestation does have his chances, but an improvement is likely needed. Tamarind Bay has placed many times in both maiden and novice hurdles and has been a bit of a difficult horse to follow recently but this race does give him a good opportunity to gain his maiden win.
3:40 Captain Cool could be the pace angle to the race He goes down 2lb in the weights and takes a class drop here, although he may not want the ground to be too soft. Chevington ran a good second place on his handicap debut at Hereford before Christmas on soft ground and is worth a market check. The Resdev Tyke is going for a hattrick of handicap wins and has tactical speed. He looks to have good claims here.
4:15
Big Ticket makes his handicap debut, representing the Twiston-Davies team. He looks interesting off a mark of 126 and was an impressive winner of a Point-to-Point race last summer so he would be expected to get today’ s 3 mile ½ furlong trip Porter In The Park has been running consistently well on good ground and carries a low weight here - she looks a danger Serious Chat won here on soft ground over a shorter distance. He never travelled in the Virgin Bet Hogmaneigh Handicap Hurdle at Musselburgh but might be worth another try today.
4:50
Ivor Bear ran well when given the tough task of a Listed bumper at Cheltenham, on New Year’s Day. He looks the best of those who have had a run. Cotton Socks has placed twice in his two bumper starts and is likely to feature again. Friendly Glance is worth a market check on debut for trainer Alan King.

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

A cracking mares’Listed event in which marginal preference is for COOLANNA who shaped as though this step up to 3m would really suit when going 2-2 over hurdles at Wincanton last month. The upwardly-mobile Livingonaprayer rates a big threat though in her bid to bring up the hat-trick, while Irish challenger Barra Rua and the progressive Dream Shadow can also have a say.
