Welcome to Chepstow Racecourse for another wonderful afternoon of jump racing.
As we look back on 2025, and enter a new year, we look back with fond memories of some fantastic racing action and stories throughout the year The year came to a close for us at a superb Coral Welsh Grand National meeting, with the superb Haiti Couleurs winning the Welsh Grand National off a huge weight, showing his class under a fantastic Sean Bowen ride from the front. A masterclass in training, race-riding and equine performance, and a hugely popular local winner of Wales’ big race.
2026 is an extra special year for Chepstow, with a huge celebration of our Centenary year Throughout the year we’ll be celebrating and looking back at some of the notable moments in history from the past 100 years, all leading up to our Centenary raceday on Sunday 9th August. We’ll have further details over the coming weeks and months on our Centenary plans and how you can join in to celebrate Chepstow Racecourses’ 100th birthday.
Today, we welcome back the Albert Bartlett Triple Crown series qualifier race as our feature of the day. This race is part of a series of qualifiers, giving the winner automatic qualification to the series final on the opening day of the Punchestown Festival. We thank them for bringing the qualifier back to Chepstow and look forward to watching how the race pans out, and whether that leads to success at the Punchestown Festival for whoever comes out on top today.
As we look forward to 2026, we are excited to share a number of great fixtures in the next few months to come.
On Saturday 21st February, we host our Six Nations Beer & Cider Raceday, complete with a dedicated Fan Zone showing the Six Nations rugby on our big screens, alongside a DJ set hosted by Josh Navidi & Friends.
In March, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Raceday on Sunday 15th March, promising a lively, Irish-inspired atmosphere, excellent racing, and great company.
Then in April, our ever-popular Grand National Party Raceday takes place on Saturday 11th April, featuring thrilling racing, live entertainment after the final race, and a vibrant party atmosphere throughout the day.
I would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank all of our loyal Annual Members for renewing for another year at Chepstow Racecourse. Your continued support is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to welcoming you back across many fixtures throughout the 2026 racing calendar
Thank you for joining us, and we hope you have a wonderful and memorable day. We look forward to welcoming you back to Chepstow Racecourse very soon.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

LOST OR FORGOTTEN BADGES
We regret that lost or forgotten badges cannot be replaced.
Taffy was born Rees Evan Jenkins July the 2nd 1927 in Cwmfelin Maesteg. It was a mining community, and he was one of 13 children. He learnt to ride, racing the pit ponies after the shift. He left Wales when he was just 14 to ride for George Todd at Manton Marlborough
In his 16 Years riding career, he rode 150 winners and competed 5 times in the prestigious Grand National
He was second in the Welsh Grand National riding Oscar Wilde in 1959 Retiring from Racing Taffy turned to Training with stables at Lyegrove, Badminton
He had varied success and his highlight being Norther on the 1967 Grand National ridden by Lord Oaksey
As the years passed, he became increasingly busy as a horse Chiropractor, travelling the country and even into Europe. Time that he thoroughly and passionately enjoyed. He was very much in demand, and even to this day people still remember him treating their horses.
Married to Jean, they had 3 children Gail, Paula and Robin who sadly passed when he was just 21. There are now 4 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
Taffy's only surviving brother, Richard is here with the family today. Taffy died on the 18th of November 1996. His ashes were scattered on the finish line here at Chepstow.
