Welcome to Chepstow for our Annual Six Nations Beer & Cider Raceday, sponsored by Pertemps.

We’re glad to have you with us today for a 7 race card, featuring a series qualifier for the Pertemps final at the Cheltenham Festival in less than 3 weeks time. Our National Hunt racing at Chepstow continues to be extremely well supported and we thank the stakeholders of our sport again today for their continued dedication to running their horses with us at Chepstow. We have 5 National Hunt fixtures remaining after today, before we switch our focus to our flat fixtures from the spring onwards.

We’re really thrilled to have the support of Pertemps for this ﬁxture yet again, and we welcome the team back to the racecourse as sponsors of all 7 races on the card today.

Our increasingly popular fanzone is back for today in the Bonanza Boy marquee on the back lawn, showing both 6 Nations rugby matches, with England vs Ireland at 14:10, before Wales face Scotland at 16:40. With a reserved seating area that has sold out in advance, there is still plenty of standing space to enjoy the atmosphere and all of the action live. We’ll be staying open after racing until the conclusion of the Wales match so head over to the fanzone after racing where the bars will be open and the rugby will be on both big screens.

We have a variety of Beers and Ciders as part of the day today on sale in the marquee, with 3 guests Ciders and 4 guest ales all available alongside our usual wide range of drinks.

2026 is an extra special year for Chepstow, with a huge celebration of our Centenary year

Throughout the year we’ll be celebrating and looking back at some of the notable moments in history from the past 100 years, all leading up to our Centenary raceday on Sunday 9th August. We’ll have further details over the coming weeks and months on our Centenary plans and how you can join in to celebrate Chepstow Racecourses’ 100th birthday.

In March, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Raceday on Sunday 15th March, promising a lively, Irish-inspired atmosphere, excellent racing, and great company.

Then in April, our ever-popular Grand National Party Raceday takes place on Saturday 11th April, featuring thrilling racing, live entertainment after the ﬁnal race courtesy of the Kaiser-Monkey-Killers, and a vibrant party atmosphere throughout the day. There will also be activations throughout the day.

Parade Ring

This is an ideal opportunity for racegoers to see the horses close up and assess their attitude and ﬁtness. The horses begin to parade 15-20 minutes before their race, and this is a great chance to pick your horse.

Placing a Bet

The Racecourse Betting shop is situated in the Grandstand & Paddock enclosure. The bookmakers are located in the betting ring in front of the main Grandstand.

The Weighing Room

This is located opposite the Winning Post and all jockeys weigh out here before each race. Their weight, including their saddle, should correspond with the weight shown in today’s racecard for their particular horse in that particular race. Once the race is ﬁnished, the jockeys will weigh in and their weight must be the same as when they started. On racedays, four stewards ensure each race is run according to Jockey Club rules and regulations.

It is a condition of entry to this Racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual found contravening these conditions will be evicted.

Emergency Evacuation Procedure

“Due to circumstances beyond our control racing has had to be suspended, will you please evacuate the buildings by the emergency exits. You will be guided by members of the racecourse staff to speciﬁc assembly points, determined by which area you are in. Once there, please wait until the emergency services and/or racecourse staff tell you what to do”.

After each race, the ﬁrst four placed horses are led into the Winners Enclosure where they are unsaddled and the jockeys take the saddle and weigh in. There are presentations by race sponsors to the connections of the winning on the winner’s podium.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufﬁcient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
