Through the generosity of sponsors, guests and race goers, the event has raised close to £500,000 with this years meeting set to push the total past the remarkable half a million pounds mark. As well as the fabulous racing on offer, we also have lots going on around the course, with the Top Banana band performing throughout the day, you won’t miss them, they are on stilts! Abandonment Policy
Racegoers are advised to wear attire suitable to the weather conditions, however patrons in the Premier Enclosure are requested not to wear sports shorts, ripped denim or football shirts. Shirts must be worn at all times in all enclosures.

Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital. It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. In the event of a race meeting being abandoned after the first race has been run, no refund will be made in respect of admission charges and emergency admission tickets will be invalid.
Admission Policy
The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to, or expel any person from, the racecourse, without assigning a reason for so doing, and does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to persons or to their property.
Disabled Users
Free parking is available by the turnstiles for blue badge holders. For disabled visitors requiring a carer, the carer is admitted free of charge. There is disabled access to both restaurants and a variety of disabled toilets across the racecourse.
Dress Code
Should an incident occur which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced security staff to be located at various points throughout the Racecourse. This information is precautionary and we trust the procedures will not be needed. Please remember in the event of an emergency, to take your belongings with you and under the direction of Brighton Racecourse representatives, proceed quickly and quietly to the agreed area.
The use of all types of communication equipment is strictly controlled at all racecourses. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc., for any purpose at the racecourse. Mobile telephones may not be used in or near any designated betting area, or for offcourse betting purposes. Further details are available from the racecourse office.
Photography
The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has allocated £77.1m in prize money for 2026. Since 2000 HBLB has invested £1.5bn in prize money to support the British horseracing industry.

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Today, we warmly welcome the Teenage Cancer Trust and the wonderful supporters of this incredible charity to the marquee for their annual fundraising event here at Brighton Racecourse. Teenage Cancer Trust’s mission is focused on making life better and more bearable for young adults undergoing cancer treatment. By building specialised, welcoming facilities within hospitals, they ensure young people can share comfortable social spaces with family, friends,and peers going through similar journeys. A passionate supporter of the Teenage Cancer Trust and this annual event was local Brighton businessman, Steve Cooper. Sadly, Steve passed away on 1st April this year, aged 65 following a stoic seven-year battle with a long-standing lung condition. Steve was always deeply committed to supporting TCT and truly admired what the trust achieves. He was consistently inspired by the team’s passion and their tireless work to help teenagers navigate the most difficult times of their lives. Steve loved these race days, seeing them as both a fantastic way to raise vital funds and a wonderful day out. He is greatly missed by his family, friends, and everyone connected with the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The Harry Bloom Memorial Trophy Harry Bloom was born in London and moved to Hove with his wife Clare in 1946. He started a small motor trading business that flourished into four branches; later he and his four sons ventured into the hotel and catering business, including buying the Langfords and Imperial hotels. In 1971 he joined the board of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and two years later he became ViceChairman. His appointment culminated in his lasting legacy to the club in his nine years by creating a hugely successful lottery. Harry passed away in January 1980 at the age of 71 and his success in many commercial ventures made Harry one of the most successful and well known businessmen in Brighton & Hove. Following in the footsteps of his Grandfather, Tony joined the board in 2009 when he became chairman. His appointment brought a vital infusion of financial backing culminating in the development of the architecturally beautiful American Express Community Stadium, which opened in July 2011. The entire family are fanatical Brighton & Hove Albion supporters and they are once again at the forefront in supporting local sport by sponsoring this afternoon’s race and will be presenting the Harry Bloom Memorial Trophy to the owner of the winning horse.

The Brighton Bullet A race for the speed merchants that has also previously been named the Brighton Sprint or the ‘Dash’. Dual winners of the race include Divine Pet (Bill Wightman trained) in 1989 and 1991 and nine times course winner Shikari’s Son (John White) who scored in 1992 and 1994. Trainer Gay Kelleway enjoys her visits to Brighton and in 1997 provided Kieran Fallon with his first success on the course when Golden Pound lifted the Sprint. Gay was also on the mark in 2011 when Clear Ice obliged under Chris Catlin. Other trainers with a good affinity with this contest include Ron Harris who secured back to back wins with Prodigality (2012) and Noverre To Go (2013) and scored again in 2016 with Vincennti whilst Eve Johnson Houghton enjoyed success with Panther Patrol (2014) and Tin Hat (2019). The incredible one-eyed Pour La Victoire, Brighton’s most prolific course winner with 11 wins, was guided by Tony Carroll to land the Bullet in both 2015 and 2018. Newmarket handler William Haggas gained back-to-back wins with progressive types in Pagan and Pink Crystal during 2021/22.
