Good afternoon, on behalf of everyone at Brighton racecourse, it is a great pleasure to welcome you back for today’s season opener.
I would like to take this opportunity to say we are very sorry for the abandonments that have taken place recently, due to the presence of leather jackets and nematodes, on the track, both species adversely affect the root system of the turf.
Our grounds team led by Clerk of the Course Jack Hastings and Head Groundsman Richard Langley, have worked tirelessly, over the last six weeks to restore the track to the usual high standards, thank you very much.
I would also like to thank Gary and Josh Moore and the whole of Cisswood stables, for providing the course with 4 horses, Jockeys and stables staff to allow us to run a gallopers trial prior to the resumption of racing.
For today we have a great afternoon lined up, with a seven race card, the fabulous Cracklin Griffins knocking out the tunes and a great selection of real ales and ciders to choose from.

In the event of a race meeting being abandoned after the first race has been run, no refund will be made in respect of admission charges and emergency admission tickets will be invalid.
Admission Policy
The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to, or expel any person from, the racecourse, without assigning a reason for so doing, and does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to persons or to their property.
Disabled Users
Free parking is available by the turnstiles for blue badge holders. For disabled visitors requiring a carer, the carer is admitted free of charge. There is disabled access to both restaurants and a variety of disabled toilets across the racecourse
Dress Code
Racegoers are advised to wear attire suitable to the weather conditions, however patrons in the Premier Enclosure are requested not to wear sports shorts, ripped denim or football shirts Shirts must be worn at all times in all enclosures
Emergency Procedures for your safety
Should an incident occur which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced security staff to be located at various points throughout the Racecourse This information is precautionary and we trust the procedures will not be needed Please remember in the event of an emergency, to take your belongings with you and under the direction of Brighton Racecourse representatives, proceed quickly and quietly to the agreed area.
HBLB Prize Money
The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has allocated £77.1m in prize money for 2026. Since 2000 HBLB has invested £1.5bn in prize money to support the British horseracing industry.
Horse & Jockey Welfare at Brighton
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface On duty today we also have a
dedicated and experienced team of highlyqualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.
It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the Grandstand & Paddock and Premier Enclosure. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the Racecourse be used for publication. Flash photography is extremely dangerous where horses are involved and we kindly ask you not to use flash photography anywhere in the Paddock or near the Winners’ Enclosure.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating birthplace of horse if not Great Britain

Richard Hughes trained the winner of this contest back-to-back in 2017 and 2018 and relies on Dandy Man filly Nifty here. Twice a winner over this trip at Chelmsford and Salisbury last year, she hasn’t been able to get involved on two starts since returning this season but, as a results, has dropped down to a tempting mark of 69. Grey Horizon is the other distance winner in the field, Scott Dixon’s colt winning at Catterick last October beforerattlingoffaquickfirehattrick on the All-Weather in January. Although the son of Havana Grey saw a dip in form, he bounced right back with a good third at Windsor lasttimeandremainsbelowhislast winningmark.

JamesFanshawe’sArgyBhajiisthe leastexposedinthisfieldhavinghad just four career starts and, whilst he remains a maiden, the form of his two runner-up finishes this season reads well and he is open to further improvement on just his second handicapstart.
Jamie and Saffie Osborne team up with Pinatubo filly Tenzi, a gutsy winnerofaseven-furlongSouthwell novice on her penultimate start. She was below that form when only fourth of six on handicap debut down in trip last time but has been eased2lbbythehandicapper.
KingOfChaos is another looking to bouncebackfromabelowpareffort last time for Dylan Cunha, hanging badly when seventh at Newmarket. AwinneratLingfieldinFebruary,the Showcasing gelding has slipped right down the handicap and could prove dangerous from a sliding mark.
