Taking advantage of the length of the irregular plot, different spatial experiences are proposed along a architectural route, based on the reinterpretation of popular elements present in the context: patio, balcony, tower. Different housing units, distributed in three levels, are functionally developed as follows: - First level: Commercial shop facing the street, housing unit 1, service area and patio. - Second Level: Housing Unit 2, housing unit 3, services and balcony. Third level: Housing unit 3 (2 rooms) services, dining area and living room.

Architecture is not merely national but clearly has local ties in that it is rooted in the earth. Alvar Aalto Finland is located at the joint of the Scandinavian Peninsula and North-west of Russia; historically it has been between two worlds which have resulted in a rich cultural identity of local traditions and a special way to relate with the landscape. At the same time, Finland has become one of the most important centers of communication technologies. As part of this network, the city of Jyväskylä is an important node for education and cultural events which has attracted a growing international community. Finland is, therefore, a connector in a geographical, historical and technological sense. Our proposal for the connection between the Alvar Aalto Museum and the Museum of Central Finland draws upon this intermediate condition of being simultaneously local and global. Within Finnish tradition, the sauna ritual represents a state of transition and transformation, both individual and collective; a space for social and cultural connection. Based on the qualities of the Finnish traditional sauna , our proposal for a new shop and the connection between the two museums is a threshold; a ritual of passage.
