All Catholics, not just clergy, have to "accept responsibility" for the mission of the Church as it enters into the third lennium since the birth of Jesus Christ, Archbishop Barry Hickey told Midnight Mass worshippers in St Mary's Githedral on New Year's Day The Church must proclaim the same message for the 2000s as it had for the previous two millennia. he said. The midnight Mass in St Mary's. the first of the 2000s. was preceded by a reflection led by the archbishop and followed by an all-night vigil of Eucharistic adoration and prayer. As he began his homily, Archbishop Hickey congratulated the large numbers who had turned out. saying that their faith impressed him deeply.
