FAST In the blustery darkness of last Saturday night the only consolation that Young Christian Workers Steve Klomo of Bentley, Michael O'Neil, and Andrew O'Neil of the Monastery group, and Peter Stewart of Victoria Park could receive from Mark O'Sullivan of Bentley was o glass of water. They and thirty others were on a strict 24
hour fast. Moreover they were performing the fast in the grounds of St Mary's Cathedral where they pitched tents and displayed banners. They drew attention to two issues the crisis in Kampuchea and the distress of the unemployed.
Their efforts drew support. Cathedral worshippers donated $2200 to Kampucheon Relief. See pages 5 and 12.

The secretary in Rome, Fr Roger Heckel, SJ, in a letter to the Australian Commission has said: "I congratulate you on the fine piece of work it represents. "The subject of unemployment, as you are aware, is not a new one for Christian reflection. But the current phenomenon of widespread unemployment in so many developed countries and its concurrent phenomenon in parts of developing countries make it a particularly acute problem today.
