Deadline was 'dead' on time The Social Justice statement, 'Beyond Unem ployment" was scheduled for release on September 23 in preparation for Social Justice Sun-

day on September 30. Last month, on August 19, the Sydney Sunday Telegraph quoted from a "draft" of the document. Copies were sent to all priests in Australia stamped with the instruction that the document was embargoed till September 23. In Sydney on Tuesday September 2 the Daily Mirror carried a story quoting from the document. In Melbourne, copies of the document were on sale and The Age newspaper purchased a copy and ran a story and cortoon the same day. The Sydney office of the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace then decided to issue the document and that story was transmitted to The West Australian which used it in its pages on Wednesday, September 3. Catholic newspapers were notified on that day that the embargo had been lifted but copies of the document had not been received by them at that stage. Following that announcement, copies were sent to the three television channels in Perth but seemingly no reference has been made to the statement so far.

The strolling piper who attracted the biggest following at the Focolare Movement Mariapolis at Aquinas College lost week was Rev David MURRAY, Anglican rector of Mount Barker.
