Citations were read the CWI, national and State president, Mrs Downey, and the awards presented by Archbishop Goody. Mrs Hickey was praised for the fact that she had been an original member of the Catholic Womens League when it was founded in 1937 and is still active in its many works. She was founding president of the Subiaco branch and later secretary, president and treasurer of the Cathedral branch. The citation noted her love and concern for Church institutions for which she had knitted and sewn garments that must have been worn by thousands, plus the financial gain from her efforts. Miss Arthur has been with the Maylands branch of the CWL for 37 years. In addition, she has given over 30 years service on the wards of Royal Perth Hospital as a member of the Red Cross trolley team, from the days of the wooden verandahs up to the present hospital that is now twice its former size. She volunteered to join the same activity at the

and has been the league representative in this work.

For her hospital work the Red Cross has presented her with the long service badge and bar.
