Farewell 1: The beloved Pope Paul VI, who serenely spoke of his approaching death just a week before, was farewelled in Rome and around the world. On August 1 he drove from Castelgandolfo to nearby Fratocchie to pray at the tomb of a deceased personal friend, the late Cardinal Pizzardo.

To the small crowd of people present, the Pope said: "We hope to meet him after death, which for us cannot be far away." In PERTH, more than 100 priests joined Archbishop Goody and Bishops Quinn and Healy to concelebrate a formal requiem for the late Pope.

The packed congregation in Saint Mary's Cathedral, included the Governor, Sir WALLACE KYLE, the Premier. Sir CHARLES COURT, the Judiciary, representatives from Churches, diplomatic and military representatives. Pictured is the conclusion of the ceremony when Archbishop GOODY sprinkled holy water on the symbolic coffin that carried the Pope's coat of inns and was surmounted with a mitre and crozier.
