FOR COUNCIL His Grace the Archbishop has called for a Novena of Masses to commence on Tuesday, October 2, in all parishes of the Archdiocese. This is to comply with the wishes of the Holy Father that all should pray fervently for the success of the Second Vatican

As the Council commences, the corresponding time in Perth will be the evening of October 11, and His Grare has asked that a Mass be celebrated at a convenient time in all parishes and public oratories on that evening. He has also asked that the bells of all churches be rung at 5.30 p.m. on October 11.

the Holy Spirit. The clergy and faithful are asked to enter into the spirit of the world-wide crusade of prayer that the Holy Spirit will enlighten and guide the Fathers of the Council in their deliberations and decisions. The Novena of Masses can be held in the evening if this time is more suitable to the individual parishes. His Grace and His Lordship Bishop McKeon leave by air for Rome on October 5.

SPECIAL ISSUE The next issue of "The Record" will be a special Council issue. Along with Catholic papers in each State, it will feature special photographs and topics concerning the Council. In conjunction with the other weekly papers, an onthe -spot man will be report big every week from Rome. He is Mr. Desmond O'Grady, whose "Rome Newsletter"

commence in the following issue and continue each week to report on the exciting and historic events

in the Eternal City. Mr. O'Grady has been literary editor of the "Bulletin" since its merger with the fortnightly "Observer." He has already left for Italy, where he plans to reside permanently.

Hills OPENED A NEW CHURCH DEDICATED TO ST. MICHAEL IN KELMSCOTT LAST SUNDAY. Parishioners of Kelmscott, which forms part of the parish of Armadale, have been attending Mass on Sundays in a public hall up to this opening of a new brick church. The new church, built at a cost of £6,000 by Berry Brothers, will accommodate 350 persons. It is built of red brick used on the external walls and a combination of grey and cream bricks for the interior. The terrazzo altar at which His Grace celebrated the opening Mass was built and donated by an Italian member of the parish.
