The Hon. C. W. Court, Minister for Industrial Development, officially opens the new Trinity College. The report of the negotiations with the State Government is reported in the four-page feature on the new college in this edition. termination that their chil. dien will be educated in the full realisation of the impact of their religion on their daily lives. "We know that this school has a great cultural and aca. demic record, something like five Rhodes Scholars,a great
sporting record. But to my mind the real yardstick by which a school may be measured is in its contribution to the citizenry of this State. Thousands of its old boys have taken their place in this State and left their mark."
TRIBUTE TO THE BROTHERS A moving tribute was paid to the Christian Brothers by His Grace the Archbishop when he spoke at the official opening of Trinity College. His Grace had already blessed the college in a private ceremony at the beginning of the school year.
The chapel publicly on February 11. am His Grace said: pleased indeed to have this opportunity of conveying to the Christian Brothers my sentiments of felicitation on the acquisition of this ad-
mirable building. There are few, if any, in the community who will not agree that the Christian Brothers made the right decision when they decided to move to this ex. cellent site. That decision will become more and more vindicated with the passing of the years." "The Christian Brothers bring with them to this new Trinity College the rich 65. year -old traditions of the old College in the Terrace and they bring with them, too, the sincere good wishes of all associated with the old College.
"Brother Kelly, the Sup. erior, deserves a special word of praise for the part that he has taken in the transfer. He has borne the burden of the major portion of the negotiations and you will all agree with me that he has acquitted himself admirably. I venture to say he is as good a business man as he is a Superior, and that is saying very much indeed. "I must, at the same time, say that I am glad of this

opportunity of thanking them (the Christian Brothers) for their magnificent contribution to the cause of education in Western Australia. It is not easy to assess the debt we owe to the Christian Brothers. They bring to their task not only the professional training of the teacher, but they bring also a spirit of dedication and devotion that makes them see in each and every boy confided to their care the rich potentialities which have to be formed and fashioned into the image of their Divine Model. "The Brothers have the care not only of the privileged boy who can come to Trinity College and their other Schools, but particularly for the underprivileged boy in Castledare, in Clontarf, in Tardun and Bindoon, To them, the spiritual sons of Edmund Rice, we are privileged on an occasion like this to convey our sentiments of sincere congiatu lotions and heartfelt gratitude. "This College will give to the Church and State what both have a right to expect, faithful hearts, grounded in piety and virtue, and loyalty and patriotism, citizens
to Australia, who next to their God, will love their country so well that to live for it, work for it and if necessary to die for it, as so many products of Chris. tian Brothers' Schools have done in the two World Wars in,which we were gloriously engaged, will be to them the greatest of earthly honours."
BROTHER GARVEY At the conclusion of the speeches, Rev. Brother Garvey, Provincial Superior of the Christian Brothers, expressed his deep appreciation to His Grace for his remarks concerning the Christian Brothers. He said. "His Grace has spoken of the great contribution of the Brothers to the Church in Western Australia. That contribution is due in no small measure to the encouragement and assistance we have received from His Grace. This is especially the case with reference to Trinity College, "I went to His Grace and asked his advice. Not only did he give me his advice, but his active encouragement to go on with the negotiations. If His Grace had not done so, Trinity College would not be here today."

TRINITY COLLEGE "This stone was laid on 25th March. 1962, by the Hon. C. W. Court, O.B.E., M.L.A., Minister for Industrial Development, Railways and the North West, to mark the transfer to this site of the Christian Brothers' College founded on St. George's Terrace by the Most Rev. Mathew Gibney, Third Bishop of Perth in the year of Our Lord 1824." In his speech of welcome to the official party and the assembled people, the college Principal, Rev. Brother J. A. Kelly B A.. M A.C.E , said that the day,was one of
triumph and regret. He said that the triumph was connected with this new project of which they would be justly proud, and the regret in the farewell to the old Christian Brothers' College with its pround tradition.
Brother Kelly said that the Foundation Stone of the old college symbolised the faith and courage of MAO* Gibney and his great coworker, the late Brother M P. Nunan, who was headmaster of the college for nearly twenty nears. In referring to the new Trinity College, Brother Kelly said, "It is very seldom that a Catholic School can display such a wide range of facilities on its opening day. The foundations of our building go down into the earth some 60 or 70 feet and because we have solid foundations we have a good secure and firm building, and we
teachers here at the college hope that our boys a; passing through our hands will lay, while they are at school here, solid foundations of character, integrity and scholarship for the years to come. When they pass out of our gates for the last time they will be what we want them to be, young men with the courage of their convictions, prudent, tolerant, charitable they will be Christian Gentlemen."
