IN APOSTOLATE FROM YOUTH "Many boys and girls from good Catholic homes and schools have been given their Faith on a silver plate and ore unconsciously too smug and self-satisfied to face up to the job they should be doing by organising the Y.C.W. for the sake of others.
"Priests, nuns, brothers and parents have done so much for them that they expect to go on TAKING instead of GIVING themselves to the work of the lay apostolote." This was said by the Rev. J. P. O'Brien, diocesan chaplain for the Catholic Social Apostolate, Catholic Action and the Y.C.W.. in a circular letter to the clergy in pre-
paration for this Sunday's sermon on the Youth Movements. The

BACK TO SCHOOL people are striking all sorts of ideas on these matters at their work and leisure activities. "They need help and advice, not only for themselves but in order to be able to help others by their sympathy and their definite view on what is right. In the Y.C.W. they are encouraged to look at the problems of those about them from a Christian viewpoint. "Strangely enough," he said, "some of our best youth leaders come from homes where parents are careless. A few are products of State schools. "Very, very many boys and girls from 'good Catholic homes' and Catholic schools have been given their Faith on a silver plate and are uncansciously too smug and self-satisfied to face up to the job they should be doing by organising the Y.C.W. for the sake of others. MORE CONGO MISSION SLAUGHTER; PRIEST GOES The deaths of more missionaries in the turbulent Kongola area of Katanga State, where a score of Holy Ghost missionaries were massacred on New Year's Day, have been reported in Leopoldville, the capital of the
Congo. Reports also tell of new attacks on missionaries elsewhere in Katanga and in neighbouring Kivu province, But other missionaries, whose lives had been feared for because they were under attack by rampaging Congolese troops, have been reported safe Father Jules Darmont, C.S.Sp., the only European priest to -survive the Kongolo slaughter; said on his arrival in Leopoldville that 20 missionaries were killed there, not 19 as previously reported.
20th Victim He identified the 20th victim as Father Joseph Postelmans, C.S.Sp., of Liege, Belgium. He reported that two European laymen were also murdered. Father Darmont confirmed the earner report bn the Kongolo killings given by a young Kongolo seminarian who escaped (See Page 11). A White Father who arrived in Leopoldville later added two more names to the list of missionaries killed at Kongolo Father Rene Tourna y, C.S.Sp., and Brother Bernulphe Heemskerk, C.S.Sp, The White Father said the two had gone to Kongolo to seek refuge when their own mission at Lubundu, 25 miles away, was threatened by attack. A new report tells of an attack on the mission at Kilwa in East Katanga, staffed by six Franciscan priests and a Brother and 12

Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Mary, four of whom are Congolese. The mission at Makutano, 50 miles from Kongolo, has also been attacked, according to reports, but nothing is known of the fate of the three White Fathers serving there. The White Father who ar. rived in Leopoldville said he had met two Holy Ghost missionaries and a Congolese priest who had escaped from Lubunda in Stanleyville. He gave the following report: Two of the four Holy Ghost missionaries stationed at Lubunda-Father Tour nay and Brother Heemskerk -sought refuge at Kongolo when their mission was threatened with attack. The two reached Kongolo and were killed. The other two missionaries and the Congolese priest followed two days later. When they reached a hilltop near Kongolo they saw the town in flames. Turning back, they tried to cross the Luningwe River to get to Tshofa in Kasai province. They were told they would have to pay for their passage on the ferryboat. But the priests had no money and wandered off into the bush.
A Trap Set There they met the chief of the region who advised them to go back to Lubunda,
saying things had become quiet there. This was a trap since the mission had been occupied by Baluba tribal
troops-the Balubakat-and fanatic anti youth bands.

These forces fired on the priests. Father Andre Remy, C.S.Sp., and Father Jean Lambert, the Congolese, were wounded, but Father Maurice Seyssens, C.S.Sp., was unhurt. The priests tried to escape, but were worn out and unable to succeed. They were taken prisoner by the youth band who turned them over to the Congolese soldiers. The troops beat the priests.
