Schools Can Benefit By Act The State Government, in one of its recent sittings, passed a bill for an act to amend the Education Act, 1928-1957.
On Sunday last, His Grace the Archbishop, recently returned from his ad liming visit to
His Holiness Pope John, imparted the Papal Blessing to the diocese. This blessing is usually given by the Holy Father to the prelate making his ad limina to be imparted to the faithful on the prelate's return, as a sign of his paand benevolence ternal care for all the faithful.
During the Solemn Mass, at which His Grace presided, Rev. J. F. Dorrian C.M., of St. Charles' Seminary, Guildford, preached for the occasion of the Mass, offered for the intentions of the Holy Father on his birthday, November 25.
Father Dorrian briefly outlined the mandate which Christ gave to St. Peter, giving him the primacy of honour and jurisdiction. "St. Peter was the first
Pope," he said, "and His Holiness Pope John XXIII now gloriously reigning is his lawful successor. He too is the Vicar of Christ on earth, he too has the exprivileges tra -ordinary given to St. Peter. We honour and respect Him in His exalted position." Father Dorrian asked the faithful to be constant in their prayers for the Holy
Father. At the conclusion of the Mass, the blessing was given.
The celebrant of the Mass, which was broadcast, was the Rev. W. Foley, assisted by Rev. E. McKenna as Deacon and the Rev. J. O'Shea as Sub -deacon. The Cathedral choir was under the direction of Rev. P. McCudden.
Priests, Laymen Receive Honours Conferred In Diocese Of Bunbury The Diocese of Bunbury has received papal honours for two of its priests and two laymen. The Very Rev. M. Giles, D.D., has been appointed prelate along with the Very Rev. D. Downey. A domestic prelate carries the title of Right Reverend Monsignor. a domestic
Monsignor Giles is chancellor of the dioccese of Bunbury and Monsignor Downey is the parish priest of Narrogin. The two laymen who received a papal honour are Mr. K. M. Housten of Bunbury and Mr. C. Honnor of Narrogin They each received the Papal Cross for Church and Pontiff. This latter decoration is given to those who deserve well of the Pope for services done for the Church and its head. The medal is a cross made octangular in form by fleurs de lis fixed in the angles of the cross. The ribbon is purple with delicate lines of white and yellow on each border. The decoration is worn on the right side of the breast.

Cathedral Confirmations On Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. the Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred at St. Mary's Cathedral. Those adults wishing to receive the Sacrament should have with them the prescribed card, filled out and signed by their parish
priest. This card must be presented before the Sacrament will be conferred.
Following the direction of the 1958 Instruction on Sacred Music, the "Universal Mass' which is to be used in all schools, will be broadcast on Sunday, Dec. 4, from St. Mary's Cathedral at 11 a.m. on the National Station. The music has been arranged in modern notation
by Rev. P. McCudden who
will direct the choir. The opportunity could be taken by teachers to hear the Mass as all schools will be expected to have a knowledge of the Mass in next year's sacred music cur-
One section which was amended (9A) is of particular interest to non -governmental schools. Section 9A and B gave the benefit of: subsidising efficient schools for the purpose and to the extent following, namely 9a (i) for the purchase of projectors to the extent of one-half of the total cost of the purchase: and (ii) for the purchase of any radio equipment to the extent of one-half of the total cost of the purchase up to a maximum of fifty pounds for any one school in any one year; and (B) the provision, for the use by school children, of school stationery and of Government publications prepared specially for use in schools. Clause 8 in the amending Bill adds the following to Clause 9a, adding after A (ii): (iii) for the purchase of books for school libraries to the extent of one-half of the total cost of purchase up to a maximum amount equal to the amount of subsidy which would be kranted to the school purchasing the books, if that school were a Goverunent school, and (iv) the purchase of pianos to the extent of one-half the total cost df the purchase of not more than one piano in respect of any one school up to a maximum of one hundred and twenty-five

ITALIAN LANGUAGE "MESSENGER" The Messenger of the Sacred Heart is to produce an Italian language version before Christmas. The new magazine will probably retail at 1/ per copy and will have the title "11 Messagero Del Sacro Cuore."
