Executive has invited a person competent in the particular field to convene each seminar, and the convenors are working out a programme in consultation with their colleagues. Certain of the seminars will be meeting for only some of the .period of the Convention. Those people taking part in the seminars will be graduates and some senior ti.dergraduates who are qualified to discuss the matters being considered by the seminars. There has been sufficient interest to justify holding seminars on the following
A prominent Australian Catholic and his wife passed through Perth on Tuesday last on their way back to their home, in Canberra. They were the former Attorney -General, Mr. James Brophy (pictured) and Mrs. Elizabeth Brophy. Mr. Brophy has been retired from his position for the last five years. Mr. and Mrs. Brophy visited their daughter, Mrs. D. Norris of Abbett-st., Scarborough, on the day that their ship stayed at Fremantle. Mr. Brophy who has been interested in sport, particularly swimming, for 20 years, has been to Rome as one of four swimming officials with the Australian Olympic team. Amongst his activities, Mr. Brophy is vice-president of the N.S.W. Amateur Swimming Association, chairman of the Country Cricket Assn.; senior vice-president of the N.S.W. Hockey Assn., and president of the Junior High School Assn., which was formed last March.
During their trip abroad, Mr. and Mrs. Brophy visited Naples, Venice and Malta.
They also attended the Passion Play at Oberammagau. Of the latter Mr. Brophy said that the play took seven hours and was. a wonderful performance. "The atmosphere of the play," he said, "was most Catholic and sincere." There was however, a lot of commercialism attached to the actual village atmosphere. Concerning Malta, Mr. Brophy was greatly edified by the large numbers of men who attended Mass and the Sacraments. Asked to comment on the Olympic Games, Mr. Brophy said: "American swimmers at Rome shattered the false sense of complacency into were Australians which lulled by the record -breaking performances of the past. The announced retirement of several prominent and the impending retirement of others have Australia starting again, virtually from scratch, to pre-
