became large enough to warrant the appointment of a resident parish priest. In 1940 the present convent school was opened and has also been used for the celebration of Mass on Sundays. At Esperance the Mass has been offered in the small chapel of the nuns' beach house. The churches, therefore, were a necessity, especially in view of the recent development of Esperance and the growing needs of the Norseman population. Both ceremonies were wonderfully successful and His Lordship, who had travelled by car with his secretary, Father T. O'Neill, from Bunbury, expressed pleasure at the Esperance church, dedicated to Our Lady, Star of the Sea, and at the remodelled presbytery beside it. The blessing took place at 10 a.m., followed by Holy Mass, celebrated by the Bishop. *

ARRIVING at Norseman by 2 p.m., the party was welcomed to the impressive new Catholic Centre. consisting of a beautiful church with present seating for 300, a fine modern school for the
sanctuary. SPEAKING to a packed congregation of well over 400, Bishop Goody congratulated the people for whom the building project had been undertaken, and by whose generosity, hard work and sacrifice it was made possible. It was a rare and joyful occasion, he said. Seldom could two churches in different dioceses, 150 miles, apart, have been blessed and opened by the same prelate for the one parish priest. He congratulated, Father Byrne on his devotion and untiring energy and thanked the builder for the artistic work and the liturgical beauty of the church. His Lordship said that graces would accrue to all through the possession of a church where God in the splendour of His Three Persons would dwell among them. Through worship, glory would be given to His Name. The God of Israel, so terrible to the Hebrews, had become for them a God of love and mercy, especially in His Church, where all who asked might obtain what they implored by the grace and virtue of the Sacraments. During September and October, 1959, the Rev. M. Byrne personally called on every Catholic family belween Esperance and Widgiemooltha to inaugurate the three-year scheme which will provide this money and during the first nine months £2,500 was contributed. Father Byrne worked with a will, helping with all forms
of the construction and his
example has been an inspiration to all. Barely 11 months have elapsed since the commencement of the plan and great praise is due to Mr. Stan Costello who carried out the constructions and alterations in the record time of three months. *

BISHOP GOODY urged the parishioners to continue in the spirit of generosity, which would shine before all as a source of inspiration. Unless charity poured forth constantly in praise of God and thanksgiving, the heart of man must shrivel and lose its strength. Material progress would depend upon spiritual increase and thus their prayerful generosity would make them worthy of blessing and reward. Later, after the ceremony, there was a buffet entertainment given by the ladies on the school verandah, where invited guests, including the Hon. J. M. Cunningham, M.L.C., were welcomed by the Catholic citizens of Norseman.

On September 4, in each of these towns, a new and beautiful church was blessed and declared opened by the Most Rev. L. J. Goody, Bishop of Bunbury, who thus inaugurated a new era of practical faith for the Catholic people who have waited so long to have the Blessed Sacrament in their midst. The amount acknowledged through "The Record" includes those contributions Which have been handed in to the Catholic Missions Office, those sent direct to Bishop Jobst, and also amounts sent to the head office of the Catholic Missions in Sydney.
Young Parents May Learn Of Family Education A natural yearning for sex does not necessarily bring to marriage the happiness and sense of purpose in God's total plan of marriage. This is evident from the
fact that many parents are their unable to educate children fully on the subject or to get beyond a series of negative prohibitions. The fault is often a lack of mature thinking on the subject themselves. Both of these subjects will be considered in the second week of the Cana Conference being held in the Scarborough districts at St. John's school. The programme for this week is as follows: Monday Sept. 19, 7 30 p.m.: Methods of sex instruction for children and surrounding problems will be looked at in theroy and pracA tical advice discussed priest will lead this session. Thursday, Sept. 22, 7.30 p.m.: The Christian attitude to sex in marriage will he handled by a competent doc-
tor of gynaecology At both of these sessions the conference will be prepared to handle the most delicate aspects of this subject and full use should be made of the question boxes at the parish church and at the school. The Catholic Social Apostolate who are sponsors of the Conference are keen to stress that the full benefit will be felt when both husband and wife are able to attend together and to learn from a single hearing where problems of marriage arise and how they must together set about solving them. Ample volunteers are on hand to look after young
