Above is the original plan of the New Norcia Cathedral designed by Professor P. L. Nervi, of Italy. It hos since been considerably modified in view of costs.

An architect's model of the proposed cathedral to be built at New Norcia, paintings dating back to the 16th century, antique vestments, mitres, birettas and manuscripts may be seen by the public at the Claude Hotchin Art Gallery at Boans Limited. The exhibition closes on Saturday, February 13. By courtesy of the Lord Abbot of New Norcia these treasures, taken from the Benedictine Abbey museum, are being displayed in conjunction with the Mr. Peter Ford's appeal for paraplegics. The exhibition was opened on the 26th of last month by the Commissioner of Police, J. M. O'Brien. Featured by contrast against the historical relics are two models of the cathedral the Benedictine Community plans to build. Designed by a Roman liturgical institute in collaboration with the world-

famous Professor Pier Luigi Nervi, the cathedral will cost somewhere in the vicinity of £800,000.

Portraits of Bishop Salvado, Father Bertram and Father Garrido, early pioneers of the Church in this State, are also on display. Pride of the paintings would be that of the Holy Family by Carlo Maratta (1625-1713). Arriving next week is a painting once thought to be that of the master Murillo. The canvas was sent to Spain but was not identified as his work. Silken vestments, dating back to the 14th century, lavishly embredered with gold thread by Italian nuns will fascinate all needle -

They were: John Roughan, St. Ildephonsus' College, N. Norcia. Annette Fitzpatrick, St. Brigid's Coll., Lesmurdie. Jenifer Hewitt, St. Gertrude's College, N. Norcia. Edward Dook, Christian Brothers' College, Ftle. Pamela Bobins, Loreto Convent, Nedlands. Patricia McCarter, Oul Lady's College, Perth. The first four candidates were awarded general exhibitions and the last two subject exhibitions in Economics and French respectively. In all, 32 exhibitions were given to 28 students (as some subject awards went to those who also received a general exhibition). A notable feature of this year's awards was the good performance of girls' schools. The proportion of exhibitions received roughly parallels the proportion of entrants from Catholic schools. 114.1PO4,1141.4.104.00

Passion Play, has returned to Brisbane to begin work on the 1960 production. The trip was a great success and served to focus attention on the Annual Passion Play. Fr. Shortall appeared on radio and T.V. in every State and carried a model of the stage and scenery with him. Last year over 44,500 people saw the play which had a cast of 184. This year the Queensland Tourist Bureau has organised a special three-day Easter tour from Sydney, with the Iona Passion Play as one of the main attractions. The Passion Play is scheduled to be performed in Toowoomba on April 9 and in.Brisbane on April 15 and 16.
