PROCESSION
17,000 Pay Record Tribute To Kingship Of Christ In an all-time record, some 17,000 people from city, suburbs and for country areas gathered at Aquinas College last Sunday to hon-
our Christ the King in the annual diocesan Eucharistic procession.
The occasion was also a rally for Holy Name Society members and their contingent, some thousands strong, was one of the most impressive in the march. Societies and sodalities marching in regalia with colourful banners made a brilliant scene against the green of the gums and the blue of river and sky. His Grace the Archbishop carried the monstance and imparted Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Rev. Fr. Sullivan, 0.P., preached the occasional sermon. The entire function was televised by TVW7 and telecast that night in a 12 -minute session.

Nun Who Was Cardinal's Cousin Dies After Long Illness The death of Moth Mary Ignatius Stritch of St. Brigid's Convent, West Perth, on Oct. 23, brought to a close a lingering and distressing

patience and fortitude. Deceased was a native' of Ballyheigue, Co. Kerry, Ireland, born of a highly cultured and literary family, Mother Ignatius possessed most of the qualifications of her ancestors immediate and remote. The Strocchios (the original name of Stritch) migrated from Italy in the 10th century in times of persecution, and settled in the then -peaceful land of

Ireland, where they were later to endure greater sufferings for the Faith, and have to the credit of the family at least one martyr. The striking personality with which she was endowed, radiated influence on all who came in contact with her. Although her father's sister Mother Benignus and her own sister Sr. M. Edmund, both entered the Mercy Convent of Brisbane, Mother Ignatius chose as the land of her adoption Western Australia, This was probably because her father's brother, the Rev, Joseph Stritch had come to Perth in the vain hopes of repairing his health. It would be difficult to assess all the members of the various branches of this one common stock, by which

work entailed in all these apparently small duties, Mother Ignatius also held the post of Mother Superior for 12 years. It was in 1949 that her health first showed signs of deteriorating, and she was forced to withdraw from most of the activities that had been so pleasing to her; yet she did not lose interest in things that were worthwhile. The Rt. Rev. Monsignor E. Sullivan celebrated the Solemn Requiem with the Rev. T. Tomich a past pupil and the Rev. M. Toop as deacon and subdeacon. His Grace the Archbishop was present at the Mass sung by the priests' choir;

about 40 members of the clergy attended. The obsequies at the graveside were most impressive, as the occasional psalms were sung by the 15 priests who came to pay a last tribute to her whose worth and work many of them had reason to be grateful for.

The following year the boys' choir was joined by tenors and basses from the Society of St. Cecilia. The requirements of the great Motu Proprio of Pius X on liturgical music were carefully followed, and soon not only Gregorian Chant but the great Masses and motets of the classical polyphonic writers were featured. Father Lynch continued to conduct the choir until 1952 when he was appointed parish priest of Applecross. It entitles her to a living His successor is Father P. allowance and a further 10 McCudden. Children Confirmed At North Beach
At Our Lady of Grace church, North Beach, on Sunday last 11 children received their first Holy Communion. They were prepared for the Sacrament by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, who were established here from the U.S.A. in 1957. At the beginning of this year the Sisters took over the North Beach parochial school. They still conduct a kindergarten at 226 Charles -street, North Perth. The kiddies were beautifully turned out, each girl and boy being accompanied by a partner. At the conclusion of the sermon, the children ratified the promises that had been made on their behalf by their sponsors at baptism. The high qualifications of the Sisters as teachers was evidenced in the careful preparation of the children, whose parents appreciate the nuns' work very much.

Abbot Gomez Will Bless Ballidu's New Church

religion has been aided priests, Brothers and nuns, possibly the brightest star being the late Cardinal Stritch, first cousin to Mother Ignatius. It would also be difficult to summarise the marathon efforts of Mother Ignatius as teacher at St. Brigid's School, as catechist at Wanneroo, as scribe for the Bushies, where her facile pen was perhaps used to the greatest advantage and reaped the most abundant harvest. The solid foundation of the Church at Wanneroo with its good school, competing with any State school of the district in educational worth, its fine church where daily Mass is celebrated, is due in very great part to the untiring zeal of Mother Ignatius. Besides all the clerical
Two Prelates For Choir's Debut
When the Rt. Rev. G. Gomez, O.S.B., Lord Abbot of New Norcia, blesses and opens the Church of the Holy Family at Ballidu on Sunday next, November 1, it will be the first church of the district.

The 'Merry Society achieved quite a notable success in winning first prize in the mime section of the recent Drama Festival with its production of the mime "Shadow of a Gunman." This was produced by Gerard Leahy and the members extend to him their congratulations.
It is with regret that the Society announces the resignation of John Anstey from his post as drama instructor. Due to increasing appointments, John feels that he can no longer devote the time necessary to do justice to the position. In appreciation of his past services,
the society has made him an honorary member.
With the Christmas season approaching plans are being made for the usual end of the year play. This year the Therries aim to put "Christ Back Into Christmas," the choice being the Nativity play "Everyman of Every Street."
Built in brick and tile the church will seat about 120 persons. It is 43 years since the first Mass was offered in the district by the Rev. V. Ubach, O.S.B. It is anticipated the building and furnishings will exceed £6,000 in cost. Of this amount £2,000 has already been raised, together with various gifts in kind. The chapel of All Souls is the gift of the Thomas family, while the high altar (carved in wood) was donated by Mr. J. Quain in memory of his parents.
Mr. Ben Heavey gave the
statue of Our Lady and Tim and Susan Leahy donated the statue of the Sacred Heart. Situated in the main street of the township, the church is built on a i-acre
block given by Miss 0. Grave. The church will also be a memorial to the late
Pope Pius XII. After the ceremony a buffet supper will be served at the Town Hall. The
Rev.
F.
Murphy,
parish priest, hopes that many former parishioners will be present.
