First Issue Leaves New Modern Press With The Blessing Of Archbishop

This is the first issue of "The Record" to be turned out by our new £20,000 Cossar Flat Bed Rotary Press (see page 3) for full des-

cription).

In preparation for this big event His Grace the Archbishop, assisted by the Rev. F. Dillon (Manager) and the Rev. P. O'Mara, yesterday blessed our entire premises and the new

printing press.

A crucifix hangs from the southern gable of the new factory. Beneath were the British and Australian flags and a profusion of kangaroo paws. Members of our staff attended the blessing and were later congratulated individually by His Grace. The Archbishop in a brief speech offered congratulations to all associated with "The Record" on the acquisition of that very excellent and most modern machine. In congratulating them he appealed to them for team -work in connection with "The Record," for their full -hearted co-operation and loyalty. His Grace said he wanted all working together happily and harmoniously as a team, regarding their employment not merely as a job. For it was more than a job: they were all vitally interested in "The Record" as if they actually owned it. "I feel that we are at the beginning of a new and very prosperous era of 'The Record,' " continued the Archbishop. "I am very confident that all of you, from the manager and the editor down will all work together as a happy team, loyal to each other, loyal to 'The Record' and taking a personal interest in it." If that was to be the beginning of a new era for 'The Record,' said His Grace, it would depend almost entirely on the staff's co-operation, amity, harmony and industry. The time would come, and he hoped it would come in the not -far -distant future, when part of the profits of "The Record" would go back to the employees. That was his ambition. It would take some time, .naturally. They had to allow for interest, for capital reduction and depreciation, but the time would surely come when all employees of "Ole Record" would share in any profits it made. "May God bless this machine, may God bless this office and factory, may God bless all associated with 'The Record,' may God bless and prosper 'The Record.' " ,,,,,,,,,,,

Exarch Prasko Visits Compatriots

Bishop Prasko said there are about 300 Ukraine families in W.A. About 80 live in Perth, some 42 in Northam, while the rest are scattered about the SouthWest. On September 27 Bishop Prasko celebrated Mass in

Three hundred Ukrainian Catholic families throughout this State have recently been visited by their Exarch, the Most Rev. Ivan Prasko. His Lordship is pictured with the Rev. N. Ivanco, Ukrainian chaplain and some compatriots in national costume. Bishop Prasko was

consecreted in Melbourne in October of last year by the Most Rev. M. Hermanuik, C.Sd.R., Metropolitan in Winnipeg, for the Ukrainians of Canada. Co - consecrators were Archbishop Bucko, Apostolic Visitator for the Ukrainians

in, Europe and Bishop Bo-

retsky of Toronto, Canada. Bishop Prasko, who has his headquarters in Melbourne, has jurisdiction over 20,000 Ukrainians of the Byzantine Rite in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania. Born in .he Western Ukraine, Bishop Prasko

studied in Rome and came to Australia in 1950 as a chaplain. He has ten chaplains in the six capital cities work ing with him. Next year Ukrainian Catholics hope to erect churches in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

the Byzantine Rite at St. Mary's Cathedral and last Sunday in Northam. Recently the local Ukrainians bought some land and a house for Fr. Ivanco at Mt. Lawley. When these are paid for a church will be built. At Northam likewise a block of land has been purchased which Bishop Prasko has blessed. Catholics of the Byzantine Rite are grouped in a metropolitan See with five dioceses with its seat at Lviv (Leopolis). In 1945 the Communists arrested all ten bishops (including the Metropolitan, Joseph Slipy) and all the priests and imprisoned them from nine to 15 years. Nine bishops died in gaol, the Metropolitan alone has survived. There are a million Catholics of the Byzantine Rite outside the Ukraine, mainly in America and Canada. Bishop Prasko left last night for Rome.
