His Eminence Gregory Peter Cardinal Agagianian, Patriarch of Cicilia of the Armenians and Pro -Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of the Propagation of the Faith, arrived at Perth Airport on Monday night last on a two-day visit to this State.

Accompanying the Cardinal were: the most Rev. R. Carboni, Apostolic Delegate; officials of the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda Fide-the Rt. Rev. Mgr. S. Pavente and the Rev. J. W. Manning, M.M.-and the Rev. F. Little, secretary of the official delegation. The official party to welcome His Eminence was headed by His Grace the Archbishop and included the Most Rev. A. J. His Grace the Archbishop entered the plane after the other passengers had disembarked. He returned with His Eminence and introduced him and his party to the official group.

A crowd of some 500 people received the visitors with enthusiastic acclaim. The dignitaries crossed the tarmac through a male guard of honour and stood while the Clontarf boys' bond played "Faith of Our Fathers." An unrehearsed incident was the presentation to His Eminence of a bouquet of flowers by Polish children in national dress. His Eminence was then introduced to a group of priests and was driven to the city accompanied by a police escort. At the Archbishop's Palace a guard of honour, composed of Sisters of Mercy and boarders from the Victoria-sq. convent, met His Eminence. The Cardinal graciously blessed them. Dean Hogan received the visitors on the Palace steps. On Tuesday morning His Eminence, accompanied by the Apostolic Delegate, and the Archbishop, paid courtesy calls on His Excellency the Governor (Sir Charles Gairdner), and the Hon. D. Brand (Premier). On Wednesday he called on Mr. H. Howard, Lord Mayor of Perth.

Dean Hogan incensed Cardinal at Cathedral porch Catholic establishments to which His Eminence paid surprise visits were "The Record" office; the Little Sisters of the Poor at Glendalough; the Sisters of St. John of God, Subiaco; St. Thomas More University College; the Good Shepherd Convent, Leederville; and St. Charles' Seminary, Guildford. His Eminence was Papal Legate of Pope John XXIII at the dual centenary of Church and State in Queensland.. He inaugurated the first national Catholic Congress held in Sydney and attended the national conference of the Y.C.W. and N.C.G.M. at Canberra. His Eminence has visited each of the metropolitan Sees throughout the Commonwealth and in New Zealand. Following the Liturgical Reception at St. Mary's Cathedral on Tuesday evening (reported on pages 2 and 3), His Eminence presided and preached at a Solemn Pontifical Mass for Religious yesterday. A full report of this function will be published in our next issue. His Eminence left by plane on Wednesday night for Indonesia, after which he will return to Rome.
